Gosh, I don't recall a "Bush Mission Accomplished gaffe". What I remember is a large banner on the "island" of the Lincoln that said "Mission Accomplished". Considering what was accomplished in the very few days of the invasion, I'd say it was a job well done. So was the landing on the carrier.

Rep. John Kyle(R-AZ) went balisitic over the president's appearing on Jay Leno.Kyle is a total jerk. What better way to communicate with the people, most of whom are not news or political junkies.A very positive move. There may be a bit of jealousy involved;who would book Kyle as a guest?Maybe the bidmouth druggie or Sean Insanity. Obama's "joke" about the special olympics was a mistake. He recognized it,admitted it was an error, apologized, and called the head of the special olympics and expressed his regrets. How long did it take Bush to apologize for his misstatements? Mostly he didn't.It took years for him to admit his foolish and false"mission accomplished" gaffe. Bruce, I just watched the end of the Neil Cavuto show on FOX and he pretty much agreed with your assessment of Obama's appearance on Leno's show. Paraphrasing his remarks: The special olympics comment was a flub (no harm, no foul) get over it. Leno has a big diverse audience so why not go there and make some points. Leno also did a better job of interviewing the President than all of the so-called TV reporters/journalists and asked some good questions while getting some good responses. The President is human, so let him have some personal time to pick basketball teams or do whatever type of short diversions he chooses to help him unwind a bit.

Jack, I agree- the bowling joke fell flat, but, it was a flub anyone could make.
On the other hand... a new thread is born.

I don't know if Bush ever said"mission accomplished" but he admitted last year that the banner was a mistake,4 or 5 years after it occurred.

American has a "Minimum Wage," apparently we’re about to have a "Maximum Wage," is that fair?

President Obama says he won’t accept Treasury Secretary’s resignation.
Wait… what? Geithner did not resign. So why is this being discussed?

Is Obama listening? Why should he? It's a minute number of talk radio groupies coming out at the beck and call of some...well I won't say any more as I'm on the verge of saying something I shouldn't.I'm sure Rush,Hannity,Beck and the rest of those who hope the president fails are in 7th heaven.

We should have a maximum wage when the company comes for government welfare and gives the "retention" bonuses to failures and ex-employees instead of investing the money in something to help the economy.

Anybody hear anything about the new owners of the UT? I've rarely read the paper myself for years because I didn't want to give the Creepy Copleys my 25, I mean 50, I mean 75 cents a day. And also for years the editorial page was run by Robert Caldwell, a guy slightly to the right of Benito Mussolini. So things can only get better....I hope.

American Tea Party by Lloyd Marcus, this is pretty good tune with a powerful message.

There's an old story about a reporter asking Helen Copley about her views on the mission of her paper expecting her to respond that its goal was to inform the readers. Instead, she stated that the purpose of the paper was to persuade. I've always found them to be slightly liberal and have sent them dozens of emails questioning their somewhat lopsided coverage and political bias on issues like illegal immigration. From what I've read, the new owners are in the business of buying troubled businesses like the UT, turning them around and then selling them off for a profit.

Jack, at first I was willing to allow his the "foot in mouth" error; but upon reflection and speaking with parents of challenged children, this remark demonstrates a degree of insensitivity that would not have been tolerated in anyone else. I think this also illustrates his inability to function without a script.

I truly want to believe Obama meant nothing of his comment, but I am the grandfather of a special needs kid. The struggles are beyond compare, my daughter is truly a saint, I don’t know if I could do it. So when there is a remark of any kind targeting special needs children it is a large grain of sand in my eye.
