I have a thread for the WSJ so maybe I should have a thread for the “liberal” NYT. I’ll start with today’s column by Bret Stevens, the NYT’s import from Foxland hired in response to Trump’s 2016 victory. He’s chiming in on Ukraine, and you can guess where he stands. Yep, he’s trying to rally the troops to get us to be tuff with Putin. That’s why he titled it “This is a Moment for America to Believe in Itself Again”. Isn’t that just a variation of “Make America Great Again”? But since the NYT is part of the foreign policy consensus, what else do you expect.

So the reluctant-to-commit Mr. Brooks sticks his neck out by supporting Ukraine against the treacherous Russkies. The world does love the tale of a spunky little country standing up to a much bigger adversary. Israel has got a lot of mileage out of that. Cynics like me are not invited to the party, though. Must be something to do with European history for me. Both sides are playing a dangerous game.

I started this thread too late I guess. The NYT doesn’t seem like it has a whole lot to say anymore. An identity crisis? I can relate. I’ve had a few. Must be nice to be a conservative and believe you are always right. I’ve claimed doubt is what makes a lib a lib.

David Brooks has a column in todays NYT titled “The Secrets of Lasting Friendships (yawn). I knew it was boring before I read it, but that’s coming from an outcast as always.

Column in today’s NYT: “Why We Admire Zelensky” by Bret Stevens. He simply gushes with praise for the superhero and how he’s defending the “Free World”. Who am I to disagree? All I care about is avoiding nuclear vaporization.

According to Ross, it isn’t this Supreme Court that is polarizing America, it was the 1973 Supremes. Good thing we have the 2022 Court to make it all better!

A column in the NYT today complains how working for Silicon Valley tech companies has replaced religion in the minds of its workers. She describes how 70 hour workweeks at a company withe a “mission” is now their spiritual home. Jeez, what planet do these kids live on? It may be just me, but I suspect for millions of American workers the workplace is a Hell where bosses are the hated enemy and the work mind-rotting. Does this have any connection to the Teen Crisis, that is, are they already aware how shitty working will be.

Todays NYT has a double dose of Fox. First we have Bret with the usual litany of why libs faired poorly in yesterday’s election: Inflation, gas prices, crime, culture wars. The solution, of course, is becoming more Republican. Whatever, the real thing is the irrelevancy of politicians. In the most important issue, war and peace, there is no air between Republican and Democrat. In the most fun issue, the culture wars, politicians are definitely moot. Meanwhile Ross is bemoaning the drop in parenthood among young people worried about global climate change. His solution? Put your faith in God and have lots of children. Is Ross a Mormon? I don’t know. I’m not sure I’d want kids now either. Even if they didn’t abandon you and go their own way.

So old Bret has chimed in again about the war and you have three guesses what he advocates: Escalation, escalation, and escalation. Braking the Russian blockade of Odessa? Sounds like WWIII to me. And the rest of the world is already paying a steep price for Ukrainian glory. But will old man Biden listen to Bret? God help us if he does.

So the milquetoast Mr. Brooks makes one of his seemingly more rare appearances in the NYT today, trying to get into the minds of young shooters. Personally, I blame the NRA and Hollywood as always. Which means nothing will change and these shootings will go on while I’m still around.

I was amused by columns by Paul Krugman, Michelle Goldberg, Bret Stevens, and David Brooks in today's NYT which all start with “I was wrong about….”. I think I’ve said that more than a few times, unlike, say Sean Hannity or Tucker Carlson or Jordan Peterson who are never wrong about anything. In their minds.

There is a guest essay today in the NYT by someone from The American Enterprise Institute titled “Biden’s Cautious Foreign Policy Imperils Us All”. I don’t even need to read it, that tells me all I need to know. But I’m a masochist and a student of propaganda so I will. Why does the NYT publish this merde?

So Mr. Straddle The Fence Brooks has come down firmly on the side of Nationalism. It’s all the rage I guess. He says America would be better off learning from Ukraine’s example. Thanks, but no thanks, I’ve heard this song before.

One more article in the NYT crowing about how Western technology is kicking Russian ass. Are we seeding the wind, perhaps?

Nicholas Kristof has chimed in on the Ukraine war, and claims that Ukrainians are laying their lives down for us. I never asked them to. It’s more the truth they are laying down their lives for Western Neocon dogma. What a waste.
