On of the things we have to put up with because of this war is the heavy stream of stories about the “heroic and plucky” Ukrainians standing up to Russia. We’ve had to hear that forever about the “heroic and plucky” Israelis, and probably soon about the “heroic and plucky” Taiwanese. It’s part of a long history of cliche propaganda going at least back to the”heroic and plucky” Belgians standing up to the Huns in 1914. Not so much mention though of the heroic and plucky North Vietnamese standing up to American bombs or the Taliban doing the same.

Today’s neocon pro war cheerleading: How Zelensky has “risen” to the occasion. Zelensky as Winston C. Well, we shall see.

Missed Bret’s opinion column on February 28, cheerleading for “victory” of Ukraine at any cost. No surprise there. He basically wants an unconditional Russian surrender. And I want Ron DeSantis to be eaten by an alligator.

Carrying water for the Ukrainians as always, here’s a byline today: “Give Me an Abrams!’ Ukrainian Tank Commanders Grow Impatient.” Really? Are American taxpayers responsible for their problems?

Headline in the NYT: “ Ukrainians in a Hidden Command Post See Bakhmut Going Their Way”. Is it true? I have no idea. Ukrainians are bragging about how many Russians they’ve killed, and we are their enablers. And the NYT is a conduit for Ukrainian propaganda.

I have arose a little from my stupor to note columns in the NYT by the two of the three columnist refugees from the WSJ (actually one is from the National Review). Bret’s column is titled “Liberals have a bling spot on defense”, arguing libs have to get on board for more defense spending, of course. What else is new? We need more defense spending in times of war, and we need more defense spending in times of peace for “Peace Through Strength”. What a scam. Meanwhile, Ross’s column is titled “The World could move toward Russia and China”, noting how many countries outside of the Western Democracies are not enamored with our “America Uber Alles” arrogance. And they look at the West’s ugly democracies (Biden and Trump, Macron, Moroni, etc.) and are not impressed. It makes Putin and Xi look not so bad. The NYT’s hyper-neoconism looks pretty ugly to me.

Ok, trying to keep up with the NYT columnists from the WSJ and NR: Ross makes the argument for Wild Man DeSantis running for Prez, even though I get the feeling he’s about as personally likable as Hillary. David French makes the case for free speech on campus, and probably baseball and apple pie too. Meanwhile, NYT lifer Thomas Friedman makes a case for not going to war with China. Sad that we need that.

Ha-ha! Uber-Neocon Hillary Clinton has a column in todays NYT criticizing the far right for pushing us closer to default on our debts. Why? Because that would undermine American world domination, and Putin and Xi would be thrilled. Is that what it would take to put the brakes on American meddling in world affairs? To avoid that dire outcome, I guess we have to give McCarthy what he promised his far right: Massive cuts in social spending. Even that has a silver lining: Socialism might look even less toxic to young Americans as we head toward 2024. Keep up the good work MAGA folks!

Another day, another story romanticizing Ukrainian Nationalism: “Life in Ukrainian Trenches”. Why read it? What’s it going to tell me I don’t already know? How many full time NYT staffers work on glorifying Ukraine?

I was going to comment on opinion pieces in today's NYT by the two Davids (Brooks and French) but frankly they were so boring I changed my mind.

In today’s NYT there is an opinion piece titled “ Things in Russia Aren’t as Bad as the Bad Old Soviet Days. ‘They’re Worse.’” When the Times is not having a puff piece about the plucky Ukrainians if has a hit piece on the Russians. I wonder what the Neocons at the less-than-unbiased Times will say about Zelensky’s much hyped Big Push if it succeeds OR fails. Glory to the Times! By the way, in France and England’s “Big Push” on the Somme they suffered a million casualties on both sides.

Speaking of shills of Neocon propaganda, NPR joined in the cheerleading for Zelensky’s bloody anti-Russian crusade. Such a shame.

Here’s a predictable byline from David French, columnist formerly from National Review:” Here’s How We Can End the War in Ukraine”. How? Many more billions in arms, and support Ukrainian attacks on Russia. Oh, why not? It’ll be fun. And if all the folks on my neighborhood who are remodeling their houses are any indication, plus their new cars, we are made of money. And what better way to spend our tax dollars than killing Russians? We’d just waste it on the homeless anyway.
