www.newsmax.com/us/texas-national-anthem-star-spangled-banner/2021/05/25/id/1022679/"Texas state lawmakers have approved a bill that withholds funding from sports teams that choose not to play the national anthem before games. The bill, which passed the state House by voice vote on Monday, is expected to be signed by Gov. Greg Abbott, R-Texas, as early as Tuesday, according to The Texas Tribune. The legislation, called the "Star Spangled Banner Protection Act," passed the Senate in early April. Senate Bill 4 said professional sports teams would forfeit the opportunity to further receive state money and could be required to "repay any money paid to the team by this state or any governmental entity."
Ha-ha! Texas is the state that just keeps giving if you are a fan of bonehead populism.

www.nytimes.com/2021/07/12/us/politics/texas-democrats-voting-bill.html?action=click&module=Top%20Stories&pgtype=Homepage"WASHINGTON — Texas Democrats are planning to flee the state on Monday in a last-ditch effort to prevent the passage of a restrictive new voting law in the Republican-controlled legislature, according to several people familiar with the effort. The group had arranged for a pair of chartered flights from Austin to Washington that would arrive by the early evening. An official involved the effort said more than 51 of the 67 state House party members had signed on, enough to prevent Texas Republicans from attaining a quorum, which is required to conduct state business. The group was hoping not just to block the bill but to shine a nationwide spotlight on what Democrats say is a damaging G.O.P. assault on voting rights, the people familiar with their plans said. The goal is to apply pressure to Democrats in the U.S. Senate who so far have been unable to pass federal legislation to address the issue." Gosh, it's tuff being a Democrat in Texas.

www.nytimes.com/2021/07/14/opinion/texas-voting-law.html"HOUSTON — “Should we be getting out of here?” This is the question my husband, a Virginia native, has asked with growing frequency as he scans the daily headlines at our breakfast table here. He is not alone. Many of my friends and acquaintances, longtime Texans, including but not limited to die-hard Democrats, are asking themselves the very same thing. Each morning, they wake up to a place they no longer recognize. In particular, the natural optimism of Texans — part of what we are so proud of and what has made us exceptional (or made us think we were) — has never, in my lifetime, been more under threat. The culmination of events that brought us to this point was the 87th session of the Texas Legislature. Abortion will be effectively illegal here, with citizens empowered to sue the doctors who perform them and the clinics where they work. Most adults will be able to carry handguns without a permit. Teachers will be restricted in how they can discuss current and past events. The only reason a voter-suppression bill did not pass is that the Democrats took a powder at the last minute to prevent a quorum. (They have done so again, and we don’t know how the sequel will end.)" My obvious message to those Californians who want California to be more like Texas: Please move there.

Now that I think about it, maybe some Californians are moving to Texas because of the politics, but lots I suspect are moving because of cost of living, and they may be bringing Californication to Texas! And land use in Texas amuses me. They can still buy single family houses with huge yards because there is so much land. The true costs of that will come later.

No doubt about it: With the new Texas anti-abortion law the American Taliban are on the move.

So Elon Musk has moved his loony ass to Texas. I wonder how well he’ll fit in with those rechecks? Still, he is from South Africa, so they might be a good fit. Of course, he may be living in outer space soon. Maybe that’s really where he’s from…

I can hardly wait until R v W is repealed. While in Texas, the American Taliban is already in charge, in the People’s Republic of California we could see a battle royale to preserve women’s rights. Reminds me of Afghanistan, where under Soviet occupation women had rights, which were taken away when the Taliban took over.

So this is the result of the repeal of R v W: in Texas, they are fighting in the courts over the right of one woman to have an abortion. Which makes me wonder about all the Californians are allegedly moving to that Guns ‘n Jesus state. Are they Ok with the redneck cowboy culture? Then again, maybe like what happened in Arizona, California migrants may pollute the politics there too.

Now that the sadistic Guv Abbott has slowed migration to Texas, Fox News has turned its anti migrant propaganda at California. Anew podcast on YouTube (titled “Crisis in California) starts with an interview with my crackpot MAGAmaniacal mayor, Bill Wells bitching about ou “open border” (where’s the problem? I don’t see any). And next the interview our right-wing crank County Board of Supervisors member Jim Desmond. Gee, such unbiased reporting. Of course they show the now infamous Jacumba Gap. I do love that. All backed with moody guitar music, with Desmond warning about some supernatural impending crisis. Go home, Fox News, California doesn’t want you.
