www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-33053411Most of the abortion clinics in Texas will be closed, following a federal court ruling that upholds an anti-abortion law in the second largest state in the US. "The law requires clinics to operate more like hospitals, which proponents say will make women more safe. Critics complain that the law will unfairly limit access to abortion. It means only seven abortion clinics will stay open, forcing some people to travel long distances for abortions. Texas currently has only 17 abortion providers - down from 40 in 2012 when Texas congressmen passed a law requiring abortion doctors to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals." Yep, Texans hate government interference in our lives. Unless it is about something they believe Jesus doesn't like. Jesus must love guns and the death penalty.

news.yahoo.com/texas-may-tea-party-heaven-activists-arent-happy-145020187.htmlAUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas can sometimes feel like tea party heaven — the land of Ted Cruz, where the Legislature is packed with hard-right devotees and the governor himself heeds fringe fears about possible federal plots to seize the state." "The Texas tea party network is the nation's strongest, with four dozen major conservative groups representing thousands of active members. Republicans control both chambers of the Legislature and the state Senate is run by Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, a former, often fire-breathing conservative talk radio host. About a third of the 31 senators are strong tea party voices, while nearly 25 of the Texas House's 150 members are conservative grass-roots favorites." As the saying goes, one person's heaven is another's hell.

www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-33314220?post_id=829282447153078_850658018348854"Texas' top law officer has called the US Supreme Court decision legalising gay marriage in all 50 states a "lawless ruling" and vowed to support state workers who refuse to marry couples on religious grounds. The court ruled on Friday that marriage for all is a constitutional right. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said clerks could be fined if they refuse to issue marriage licences. However, he said that his office would defend them in court free of charge." News from The Hate State.

www.aljazeera.com/news/2015/10/planned-parenthood-battle-heats-texas-raids-151024133628333.html"A struggle over Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood has spread to Texas after state authorities raided several of its clinics and demanded thousands of pages of documents, including confidential patient records. Agents from the Texas Office of the Inspector General arrived at Planned Parenthood facilities in San Antonio, Houston, Brownsville and Dallas on Thursday, giving the organisation 24 hours to hand over patient records, billing records and personnel information. In a statement released online, Planned Parenthood said that "the state raided Planned Parenthood’s health centres looking for an excuse to justify its politically motivated actions". The raids came just three days after Texas Governor Greg Abbott ruled that Planned Parenthood would no longer receive contracts with Medicaid, a joint state-federal funded social healthcare programme." Meanwhile, in the Guns and Jesus state of Texas, religious fanaticism reaches a new high as the Christian Taliban raids PP offices.

www.nationalreview.com/article/426974/businesses-leave-california-texas"For most of the 20th century, California was a place that people and companies moved to in search of opportunity. The Golden State still has its beautiful climate and technically skilled workforce, but today these things are not enough to prevent companies from leaving the state. A new study seeks to quantify the trend of companies fleeing California and determine how, and to what extent, it is caused by California’s hostile business environment." "To no one’s surprise, Texas was the main beneficiary of California divestment events during each year of the study. After Texas, the top destinations for escaping California businesses were, in order, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Oregon, North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, and Virginia." "Entrepreneurs who survive the ordeal of gathering all the permits needed to start a business — opening a restaurant can take more than two years in California — are then micromanaged by labour laws telling them when to pay overtime, and how much. They suffer electricity prices that are already among America’s highest, and which may rise further to meet the state government’s ambitious carbon-emissions goals. Then there is the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). A well-intentioned law to curb the damaging effects of development has mutated into a monster. Almost anyone can file a CEQA lawsuit against any project they dislike; plaintiffs win half of the cases they enter, and when they lose, they do not need to cover defendants’ legal fees (the reverse does not apply). Builders are compelled to hire expensive unionised labour to ward off union bosses’ threats of spurious CEQA suits. Shops and petrol stations file cases to prevent competitors from opening up." Oh no, business who don't want to be regulated our leaving our glorious state! I would miss them if I knew of any, but I'm too busy stuck in traffic from all the people going to work. All I have to say is, enjoy your stay in the Great State of Texas, a guns-and-Jesus state trying to make abortions unavailable but making sure every paranoid can be packing at schools and rches and everywhere else.

www.nbcnews.com/storyline/paris-terror-attacks/texas-gov-greg-abbott-we-wont-accept-syrian-refugees-after-n464221"After the terror attacks in Paris that killed at least 129 people, the placement of refugees fleeing Syria has come under scrutiny as at least two dozen governors — mostly Republicans — have raised concerns about Syrian refugees relocating to their state. "The first and foremost responsibility of government is to keep its people safe," Texas Governor Greg Abbott said Monday. "We are working on measures to ensure ... that Texans will be kept safe from those refugees." Nearly 2,000 refugees from Syria have relocated to the United States since 2012, the New York Times reports and President Barack Obama has said that the U.S. will accept 10,000." Even self-perceived "manly" Texans are too chicken to accept Syrian refugees. I'm happy to say California has the biggest Arab-American community in the U.S. and when has a terrorist attack happened in California? Gov. Brown make be a flake but he at least doesn't have yellow stripe down his back.

www.sfgate.com/news/politics/texas/article/Texas-to-California-on-travel-ban-Get-a-life-11242121.php"Even Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton appeared to take a swipe at his California counterpart, noting in a statement that Californians continue to flock to Texas as a better place to live and work. "I talk to people almost every day who made the trek from California to Texas, and without fail, they tell me their move is due to either greater job opportunities, much lower-priced housing, an escape from a left-coast political climate, or just a better quality of culture and life," he said. Under a new law that took effect in California on Jan. 1 that bans state-funded travel to places with discriminatory laws, Becerra has to keep a list of those laws and the places where state travel is banned. In addition to allowing child-welfare agencies to refuse a placement based on religious beliefs, he new Texas law -- House Bill 3859 by Rep. James Frank, R-Wichita Falls -- also allows faith-based organizations to place children in religious schools and to deny referrals for certain contraceptives, drugs or devices." Ha-ha! Any Californian who moves to Texas is not a real Californian. Morons are voting with their feet. Who needs 'em? And I suspect "quality of culture and life" is in the eyes of the beholder. Who the f**k needs f**king cowboy "culture"? And the right side won the Battle of the Alamo. Too bad they lost at San Jacinto.

No, actually, there is a brain drain from the rest of the country to California. And a mp drain from California to Texas.

Really weird. I've been seeing a lot of cars with Texas license plates here in San Diego lately, even more than with the usual Zonie plates. My only guess why is that they are former Californians who moved to Texas, realized their mistake, and are moving back.
