www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/jun/18/texas-gov-rick-perry-might-move-california-end-ter/"Texas Gov. Rick Perry has spent months trying to court California businesses to his state, but an new interview suggests the Republican is actually mulling a move to the Golden State." “Perry told me that he loves California, vacations in San Diego annually, visits the state about six times a year and might even move here in January when he’s done with his 14-year stint running Texas,” wrote the Times’ Mark Leibovich." I guess he might not be as dumb as he looks. I wonder if he'd move in next to Mitt Romney in La Jolla?

www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/jul/25/davis-to-fix-america-copy-texas/"There’s a reason Gov. Rick Perry can spread himself across every cable network and op-ed page he can find, scoring points on matters from immigration to states’ rights and foreign policy. It’s because in the nearly three years since he brain-cramped on a presidential debate stage, he has returned to the job that made him a big deal in the first place — piloting our second-most-populous state through the roiling waters of the Obama presidency. Mr. Perry has not done this by himself. The state’s resilience is crafted by a conservative legislature and the combined instincts of communities filled with citizens who like their government small and localized, their liberties unmolested and their values left intact. Throw those tastes into a mixing bowl and you get a state that creates jobs, attracts new businesses and protects religious liberties. Isn’t that what every Republican candidate should be promising to do on a national level?" So here's a Texas radio loudmouth extolling the virtues of Texas and Gov. Perry in the Moonie paper. I guess one person's Hades is another person's Heaven. Does Texas "protects religious liberties"? Is that what all the States Run by Religious Fanatics do? I don't know. I do know I'll take Gov. Brown over Gov. Perry any day of the week.

www.nationalreview.com/article/384570/perry-2016-view-texas-mark-davis"As Rick Perry looks out at us from countless cable-news channels this summer, his border chess match against the Obama administration underscores his potential 2016 skill set. Two portraits emerge. One is of a wiser, seasoned executive ready to jump into a race already rich with governors. He’s armed with more reliable conservatism than that of Chris Christie; and he has a meatier résumé than Bobby Jindal, Scott Walker, or Mike Pence. This portrait features Perry’s proud record of protecting his state from the scourges of the Obama years, racking up stretches of job creation and growth that have far outpaced the stagnant national economy. It also features his unapologetic recruiting of employers and residents from right under the noses of liberal governors in states lumbering under the weight of expansionist governance. Around my outpost in Texas, I meet these newcomers all the time. They are transplanted Californians and New Yorkers who confess they will miss the Pacific beaches or the Manhattan skyline; they will not miss the suffocating taxes and regulatory environments of their prior homes." So now this Texas radio clown who wrote the puff piece on Perry in the Moonie paper is pretty much doing the same thing in the National Review. Is he on the Perry payroll? I don't know. But I am amused at how he "meets these newcomers all the time", that is, transplanted New Yorkers and Californians, fleeing high taxes and regulations. Frankly, if they are willing to give up coastal culture for Texas cowboy culture to satisfy their greed, Texas can have them.
Perry vacations in California for a reason.

Sad but true.

talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/priebus-texas-abortion-law-compassion"ck Todd on Sunday grilled Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus on a Texas abortion law that was upheld on Thursday, forcing more abortion clinics in the state to close their doors. "One of the things about the Republican party is you don't like a lot of regulation on businesses, except if the business is a abortion clinic," Todd said to Priebus. "80 percent of these abortion clinics in Texas are going to be basically out of business because of this new law. Too much regulation, is that fair?" "Well, you obviously have to talk to someone in Texas" Priebus responded. "But the fact of the matter is that we believe that any woman that's faced with an unplanned pregnancy deserves compassion, respect, counseling, whatever it is that we can offer." What a hypocrite. But we knew that already. All I have to say is: Sexually active ladies, move to California. We love you here.

www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/lone-star-crazy-how-right-wing-extremists-took-over-texas-20140701"However promising the Battleground Texas statistical analysis might seem on paper, the present-day reality is that Texas remains a very red state, and the narrow slice that represents the Republican-primary electorate – about seven percent this year – continues to move farther and faster to the extreme right. An April poll by Public Policy Polling suggested Tea Party darling Ted Cruz, the first-term senator mulling a presidential run in 2016, is the most popular politician in Texas. The question no longer is, "Would Ann Richards be too liberal to be elected in Texas today?" but rather, "Would George W. Bush?" Immigration reform? Compassionate conservatism? Stick to painting, Chomsky!" Then there's Perry's "Texas miracle" – 37 percent of all new jobs created since 2009 in the United States have been in Texas, and the state's population has soared – which has been driven in large part by cheap housing (Texas has lots of space), low gas prices and the lack of a state income tax. Unfortunately, Texas has one of the highest percentages of minimum-wage jobs in the nation, along with one of the highest poverty rates. It'll be interesting to see if all of the new Texans moving to the Lone Star State wind up disappointed with the miracle they'd been promised, and if so, who they end up supporting: the party of Dan Patrick, or the party of Wendy Davis?" Well, obviously the party of Dan Patrick.

america.aljazeera.com/watch/shows/america-tonight/articles/2015/1/22/kory-watkins-cop-watching.htmlGroups that monitor the police have attracted more attention nationwide since white officers killed Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, and Eric Garner in New York. But Watkins is an unlikely ally of the movement. He carries his AK-47 assault rifle while on patrol. “Why not?" he told America Tonight. "It's my right to do so and I want to exert my freedoms in the most powerful way and in the biggest way possible. That way, more freedoms are created by doing so.” Watkins, a bartender by day, is the coordinator for Open Carry Tarrant County, a hybrid of the cop-watching and open carry movements. The small band of gun-toting Texans warns motorists of DUI checkpoints and speed traps. They also show up at police traffic stops, record the proceedings – including any confrontations with officers – and post the videos on social media." Just where I want to live, a state where people walk around with AK-47s intimidating cops and it's legal.

america.aljazeera.com/articles/2015/4/1/texas-measure-cuts-hiv-funds-boosts-abstinence.html"Texas would cut $3 million from programs to prevent HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases and spend that money instead on abstinence education under a contentious Republican-sponsored measure tucked into the state budget Tuesday night." "Texas in 2013 had the third-highest number of HIV diagnoses in the country, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control. Texas also has one of the highest teen birth rates, and its public schools are not required to teach sex education. Another Republican-sponsored amendment that passed Tuesday night would prevent schools from distributing sex education materials from abortion providers." Teen birth rate per 1,000 in Texas: 52.2 In California: 31.5

www.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/apr/18/texas-set-to-approve-open-carry-of-handguns-we-are/"Texans could soon be allowed to openly carry handguns, a change gun-rights activists have been seeking for years. On Friday the Texas House of Representatives voted 96-35 to allow Texans with concealed-handgun licenses to openly carry their guns in public in holsters, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday. A similar open-carry measure passed the Texas Senate last month. Both open-carry measures must be squared and sent to Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, who has indicated support for the idea, The Journal reported." I Guess if you like living in a state where people are all holstered up, this is great. Personally, if I was eating in a restaurant and I noticed a civilian with a pistol on his hip, I'd be up and outta there. (Except if it was you, Turk ) But I still don't get why the States Run by Religious Fanatics are the most pro-gun.

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/apr/28/texas-lban-abortions-coverage-health-insurance-plans"Lawmakers in Texas are seeking to ban abortion coverage from health insurance plans, the latest in a series of restrictions meant to curtail abortion access in the state. A new bill, which passed a state senate committee on Monday, would prohibit private health insurance plans and plans offered through the state’s Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace from providing default coverage for abortion. Women in Texas would instead have the option to buy separate, supplemental insurance for abortion – or pay for the medical procedure out of pocket. Touting the language of choice, the bill’s author, state senator Larry Taylor, told the Texas senate affairs committee: “Under this bill, you can choose to pay for abortions or you can choose not to pay for the abortions of others.” More anti-choice legislation from the Guns and Jesus state of Texas.

www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2015/05/17/shootout-among-rival-biker-gangs-in-texas-restaurant-kills-9/?hpid=z3"Police in Waco, Tex., said Monday they had arrested 170 people after multiple biker gangs engaged in a shootout at a restaurant that left nine people dead. All of these people were charged with engaging in organized criminal activity, which is a capital murder charge due to the number of victims, Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton, a Waco police spokesman, said at a news conference Monday. “There was a significant danger here yesterday because of the amount of violence that occurred behind us here,” Swanton said while standing in front of the restaurant." Sounds like Waco is a great place to live. But what is more interesting is all 170 of these people could get the death penalty. What, Texas bikers aren't killing each other off at a fast enough rate already?

Let's see: Three weeks ago there was a shooting at a convention of anti-Islam bigots in Texas, two weeks ago Texas bikers were gunning each other down in Waco, and this week you have an out-of-control Texas cop kneeling on the back of a fourteen-year-old GIRL in a bikini and pushing her face into the grass. Lots going on in Rick Perry's "Miracle" state, don't you think? But I think I'll stay right here in California, even though it is "ruined" by liberalism.
