Sorry to hear of Gene's passing. I didn't get to know him too much in the short time he posted here, but what he posted was always of interest. His generation will be remembered well by history.

A Gene that lived in an area that our Gene was known to live, with a middle initial and last name that was the same as his, and whose wife's name matches that of our Gene's, passed away on July 3, 2010. I have sent emails to his address and called the phone number listed in his and his wife's name, and was never able to speak to anyone. I exhausted the limited avenues at my disposal to find out what I could. Without more confirmation than a single notice online and address and marriage information, I can't state for absolute sure that it was our Gene the Old Soldier. Too much information lines up for it to be someone else. If it was Gene the Old Soldier, I hope this special section and thread in San Diego Scene will stand as a tribute to a fallen soldier. He stood guard from high above to watch over his country. He now looks down from an even greater height on his last flight. When you can, visit 7th BOMB WING B-36 ASSOCIATION Inc.. This is not what I’d expected to see when I returned. Hatch it will remain here as long as I’m here.

That was good of you, Turk. I, and I am sure others here, want to thank you: Thanks.
I don't think it is giving away anything personal or too private, but, this was his last email to me back in December of last year:
Gene was well thought of around these parts. We even have a member that called him her Boyfriend. Another offered a kidney. He seemed to pull the best out of people.
I doubt the devil lost his fear of him, so, I think there is reason to believe he climbed out just fine and leveled off at Angels Infinity.

Wow! That face really fits. Thanks, Hatch. Well, thanks for your patience, Nikki. I am sorry that it is so large. The next will show Gene at a 7th Bomber Wing Associating get together.

Seventh Bomber Wing Associating Meeting, about 2007. Gene is in the white shirt in the above photo, and the light blue suit in the lower.

Thanks for the pictures Hatch. I kinda got an empty feeling knowing that Gene won't be with us - I always thought he'd get patched up and be back with some stories.

Thanks for the pictures Hatch. I kinda got an empty feeling knowing that Gene won't be with us - I always thought he'd get patched up and be back with some stories. I know how you feel, Jack. Ya know what makes me really sad, actually angry, is that because of a couple of real as*holes, all the archives from the RR blog with Gene's stories are gone forever. There was that awesome story about him as a young tike at a lake in Texas that I would love to be able to go back a read. I wish I could remember the story. I do remember telling him that that was one he should publish, it was that good.

With the help of the Air Force and other sources, it is now confirmed.
