The face fits the man. The first picture was emotional, thanks for sharing Hatch.

Hatch, Of course, but you could also direct Gene’s granddaughter to this site, she may enjoy reading the interaction, membership not required. Many thanks for the update.

Turk, invitation sent. Perhaps this could spread to some of her family members.

Today, I received an email from Gene's granddaughter. Edited to await proper permission. That is so cool, Hatch. I read your post earlier so I got the gist before your edit. Dang, I wish we could have had the archives from the RR blog. It would have been my pleasure to go through the "best of Gene" and forward them to her.

Another anniversary of Gene's passing has gone by. I was reminded of it when another anniversary of the death of another went by just two days before gene's.
I still have a few emails from Gene. A fond memory is of when he called my home in 2008 to verify that I was still alive. It was a great surprise when my then sister in law handed the phone to me announcing that a Colonel Gene T... of the USAF was on the phone.
I was flying quite a bit then and hadn't posted for a protracted period. He had it in his head that I pranged myself somewhere near the southern border. Since I didn't I was able to convince him that I was still very much alive, as best as I could tell. He advised me to get rid of that rickety piece of junk I was playing with and get a real airplane. I didn't and I am still very much alive.
Anyone suppose that Gene and DJ will have that conversation 494 years from now?

This weekend, I and my new wife will be celebrating her father's 94th birthday. He is a retired USAF LtCol that flew C47s in WWII and again in Vietnam. I met his daughter, now my wife, just before he headed to Vietnam.
He had similar stories to Gene's- transporting illicit booze, cigarettes and even foreign cars in a military barter system, the story about which would have made a great movie.
This weekend, we are going soaring!

Congratulations on your new marriage!
