Re: aetheism as a religion
Yes, I know you aetheists hate it when your belief system is called what it is - a religion - but too bad.
Your religion has rituals, mantras, meetings, etc.
Anti-religion, anti-christ, anti-pagan - whatever! It is still a belief system. The more fervent you become the more the religious frenzy is pronounced. The more you become the Zealots.
As far as mixing things up - I think this is where the secularists and aetheists are off mark.
You type as if what you say is more sacred than the interpretations of others.
==============================
Amendment 1 - Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression. Ratified 12/15/1791. Note
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
===============================
Now, I know you aetheists are bothered by a very simple statement within the Amendments to our Constitution - yet you might want to re-read the sentence.
NOT the interpretations throughout the years of others who are trying to out think the Founding Fathers.
Go back to the beginning and start afresh.
Becoming Secular, Aetheist, Muslim ===> All equal establishing a religion and one that prohibits the free exercise of religion.
Displaying a cross, star, etc on government land is not establishing a religion. It is being respectful of religions.
That folks cannot display the Nativity, a Cross, the Star of David - during their religious celebrations - this is prohibiting the exercise of religion.
That an aetheist can say they are offended by a cross on a hill and they take precedent over the majority and over history AND they can cost us (taxpayers) monies - That is not only frivolous behavior allowed, it is prohibiting speech and religion of many.
Your interpretation is that it should not be on Government land. It is not my interpretation.
BACK ON TOPIC.
Once again - I took a different turn with the topic and You - the ACLU Aetheist - have to take it back to arguments that are KNOWN Arguments that have NO resolution at THIS point in time.
I brought up a story that was told over the holiday - shared it with others.
I also posted my quandry relative to freedom of religion and Muslim's belief systems. I am not here for YOU to tell me how to think. I do post for the views of others I tend to hold respect towards.
And you hijacked it back into a that you somehow figure you have the magical answer to - yet many of the top scholars do not.
So - get over yourself and stop trying to "Preach and Teach" a point that is opinion based.
Re: Mt Soledad.
No, unlike you I do not remain stuck on one incident or another....... Mt. Soledad had not entered my mind until you posted about it.
Yet - the costs associated with this, the fact that the secularists/aetheists wish to destroy what has been around for centuries/half a century / decades - is what is wrong.
Leave it alone.
Stop stepping on others.
Stop trying to make us like the UK.
After reading your posts - I highly suggest that you do not equate others' thoughts and approaches with your ways. You are stuck in a box with your thinking and your comments are moldy. You _ASSUME_ things that are not in the minds of the authors/posters.
The others appear to be able to take a thread of thought and move forward, exploring other avenues. You - you want to beat the dead horse ad nauseum.
Yet... I should have known... you cannot stand out of the box contemplation when it comes to Religion or any other ACLU obsessed method of thinking.
