I watched the first hour of the coverage in the Judiciary Committee this morning and must say that both sides seem passionate on their views and literate in their delivery of same. The good Judge did not show much expression in receiving either side but it seemed very respectful and factual to this point. We'll see how the rest of the process goes but the lines are clear and she will be confirmed.
I am especially proud of our own Senator Feinstein as she shows such intellect in her evaluation of the significance to her job! "She is very proud to vote for her as a woman". Great.

Wow, and I always thought that the Supreme Court was all about properly interpreting the Constitution and the law. So what you're saying is that Sotomayer is only going to be there because of gender and ethnic background? If I follow your logic then since I'm of Irish heritage then only another person of Irish heritage can properly represent me. It must be hard being you.

The majority of her decisions have been mainstream; however there have been decisions that have departed from the law. The right should not expect a Roberts or Alito, Obama could have picked a radical like Ginsburg, it could be much worst, let the left have their day.

I love seeing the GOP in such disaray. Now that the majority of America has gathered enough to vote, the country can now be properly represented.
Its funny the GOP dont know what to do now, they are in the minority and the way things are going, unless minorities become selfish money horders, and vote against their own best interests, I dont see the GOP being the majority any longer.

Have fun Engagment of a "Battle of Wit" with an unarmed opponent only results in a witless battle. Never heard it stated as dodge ball?

before you jump to conclusions and send insults at me, I forgot to mentions Sotomajor is HIGHLY QUALIFIED. There is little doubt that the Republicans will support her appointment. Yes, she is HIGHLY QUALIFIED as are many others. There are others, of any sex or race, that are BETTER QUALIFIED is the point. The Republicans are going to dress her down to gain a very clear understanding of how she will base her decisions. They will make their point but will still support her appointment, barring any "screw up" on her behalf of which is highly unlikely. Why would you FORGET something as important as HIGHLY QUALIFIED? It must not have been important to you!

Interesting that the point man for the Repubs in this matter is Jeff Sessions-he was denied a seat in 1986 on the federal courts due to his hostility to civil rights. He unsuccessfully prosecuted an aide to MLK who was registering voters, he had said" use to think the KKK was OK", and changed his mind when he learned some of them were "pot smokers". He attacked the NAACP as "un-American" and "Communist-inspired" that "forced civil rights down the throats of people". In an interview with FOX News, he said he was concerned that the PRLDEF brought "several race discrimination lawsuits for minorities". Based on a report by Ian Millhiser, Huffington Post 7-9-09 The right can jump and shout, and misquote her infamous "life experiences" speech, but she will be nominated anyway despite the near-hate yammerings of Limbaugh, Hannity and Beck, and the extreme right.

Bruce you should get "square eyed" more often that is good info which I need to read up on.
