Bruce, first read carefully Oliver’s posts then read again and consider others. His statements are flaming and race baiting. This is a worthy topic but Oliver’s approach is divisive. We can discuss and ignore him, but we are not the only ones reading. I visit many boards weekly and seek advice from other moderators some have read Oliver’s comments. Our board tolerance greatly exceeds most; Oliver needs to learn a social delivery. Oliver and I go back to the old RR message board, moderation did not exist, many can only image what that was like. Sadly, my guess is Oliver won’t be around much longer.
Secondly my mother’s family moved to America from Scotland in the early 1800’s after Sherman burned Atlanta half the family returned to Scotland the other half moved to South Africa and Rhodesia, I come from the latter half. When I was younger and had a full head of hair my afro rivaled Anglia Davis. Ironically I ended up working in South Africa and Rhodesia. My father’s family was from everywhere, east and west Europe, Middle East and North Africa. I’m like the junk yard dog, take your pick and I probably got the blood.

I for one am glad you posted the article, Jack O. There is truth to the claim that racism is on the rise for no better reason than the race of the President of the United States. Stupid people exist. Give them a reason, and they will work hard to prove themselves. I am almost at a point where I think we ought to form a posse and go after the rat baspersons and eliminate them from the face of the earth. The trouble with that is, I am not smart enough to separate out those that hate other races from those that just hate the way "other" people think. The line gets a bit blurry for my sorry eyes. So, I may just have to back away from this topic. I may just go nukier against people that are of the same species as I, but who have a different point of view. Hatred manifests itself in all kinds of guises. thank you Hatch. I dont know why im getting beaten up on this topic. I know racism has always existed and it always will. I also know there is reverse racism My only point , per the NewsWeek article , is that President Obama being African American, has increased KKK recruitment. that is my only point. people can disagree or agree and that is fine. they can have their opinion and I am not attacking them or anyone. so thanks for understanding what Newsweek is pointing out. remember the old saying "don't attack the messenger of bad news" I have nothing to do with creating racism,,just pointing out what is going on in our country right now per Newsweek.. thanks again Hatchy !

Some of the people in this building are so technically challenged!Somebody tried to use the computer to put on the Anti-virus 2009,and screwed it all up.Then they paniced and began hitting all keys on the keyboard. These people, many of them, think they have hi-def TV,even with a 15 year old set and basic cable, because they see the hi-definition sign when they watch the ch.8 news. Back to the topic, one incident in 1959 or 1960 happened which absolutely stunned me,a 13 year old kid.The Giants had spring training in Phoenix in a dinky park just south of downtown.A story broke on TV and in the paper that brought me into reality. The Giants stayed at the Hotel Adams downtown.Except the black players:they stayed at McCoy's Motel,a collection of run down cabins east of downtown.Giants management approached the management of the Adams and requested that the blacks be allowed to stay there. After 3 days of negotiations(!) it was agreed they could stay at the Adams, but only if they came in through the rear alley and used the back door, and didn't use the elevator. This came as a shock that such a great player as Willie Mays, and a young Willie McCovey had to suffer this indignity. This went on for a few days, then they decided to enter the front door, walk through the lobby, and go up in the elevator.A clerk said something about caalling the police. The manager wisely decided it wouldn't be good publicity to have the two Willie's confronted by the police. From that day on,the issue was over. What was unbelievable were the letters to the editor, supporting this "policy".Thank god there was no talk radio then!

I am going to keep this short. I discovered a lump in my cheek and I think I may have an elevated blood nitrous oxide level. I am concerned, but, it is well past doctor's office hours. I'll have to see if he can fit me in tomorrow.
Jack O, thanks for understanding my understanding. Let me explain why I am pleased to say so.
For most of my life, I used the "N" word because it was commonly used in my family. For example, my grandmother on my dad's side owned an old well known cowboy bar in what was known as Chandler Heights, Az. It was actually a landmark and could be found on maps from all map publishers. Sadly, it no longer exists. It lost its landmark status.
Back then, she had a housekeeper that took care of the bar and the apartment attached to it where I spent a good nk of my growing-up days. That is where at the tender young age of nine I learned to chew and spit tobacco in the "cuspidors" as my Grandma called them. I also had my first Coors Beer there. To be accurate, I had my first unopened COLD one there. Everything before then was opened discarded bottles that had enough to know what NASTY tasted like. I also had my first Marlboro.
Grandma often introduced the housekeeper as "My 'N-word'". As you could guess, she was black. She was also only one generation from her slave relatives. She knew slaves as family members!
And yet, in spite of what I now think were feelings that had to be suppressed for so long, she was so sweet and kind to my family, including my Grandma, she could have been Mother Teressa! Mother Teressa wasn't known back then. This woman could have been her.
Years after my Grandma sold the bar, the housekeeper came to clean my Grandma's ranch house, which I now own. Sometimes, my Grandma could pay her, other times... money could get tight. The housekeeper didn't drive. Grandma always picked her up and took her back home. She also took her to the post office (located at the General Store across the street from the bar for years, later in town in Chandler). And even shopping.
When my Grandma landed a boyfriend some 15 years her junior, she no longer needed the housekeeper. You know, the nesting thing kicked in. She had someone else to take care of and to take care of her. She did not turn her back on a friend.
Instead, the housekeeper and my Grandma would plan outtings together- a casino there, getting hair done there, the dog races over yonder.
You see, I AM a racist in every sense of the word. I grew up with it. Yet, I have within me this dichotomy of origins and sense of self. Perhaps I for some time I was on the quest of the "twelve step program", the "Bigots Anonymous", so to speak.
It turned out I didn't need it. I made friends along the way, because of in part those that I'd like to call friends right here. From some forty-to-fifty-some-odd years ago, I learned that real people are out there. They include people that don't look like me (THANK GOD! There's enough ugliness in this world as it is!) as just another white bigot but as someone that has a life with all its joys and sorrows, one that has history.
What was can be hard to overcome. Not impossible...
Waddayaknow. The lump disappeared. It disappeared as a result of honesty and humanity.
Between you and me and nobody else, I don't see that in Obama.
Lump gone altogether.
Amazing.

I had to end abruptly, the battery in my mouse went was going and I couldn't control the mouse. The mini-story only means my views on the subject were shaped by real life experiences. The two "Welcome to Arizona" incidents which some of you may remember from the RR site, along with other life experiences I have had shape my reactions to this subject. Anyway I'm exhausted from working all afternoon on the computer downstairs.I've only been using the PC for some 8 months but by default I'm the "geek" here by default.I never should have let it be known that I worked at a radio station in the 60's and knew how to run the board(which took a lot of explanation).Old people!

Well good old divisive, smearing, Right Wing Extreamist Talk Radio does it again..
last week on Rick Roberts, an Africam American caller called in and of course, as soon as the caller was defending our President Obama, Rick cut his mic off,,,started yelling at him, then went into som unrelated tirade by call the caller an 'ANGRY BLACK MAN",,,Rick then also went on calling this poor defenseless caller a 'STEP IT AND FETCH IT ANGRY BLACK MAN" then Rick hung up on the caller....
And of course, other callers supporting Rick called in using similar remarks....
What is going on with talk radio? why such anger and hatred towards President Obama supporters?
Thank God we are in the Majority and are allowed to speak , unlike how Right Wing Extreamist Talk Radio censors anyone who disagrees with their propaganda....
Public Airwaves my butt.

Hatch, somehow I missed you post #33,probably because of my frustration with the people in the building. One of the finest "essays" I've read, you truly touched me. I gained a new rspect for you due to your honesty. I had a friend whose mother cleaned the house of a couple, both doctors. When Odessa became ill with lupus in her fifties and was unable to work, they continued to pay her and provide food until she passed away after 1-1/2 years. They paid for the funeral to avoid a "paupers" funeral(yes, they actually used that term in the 60's" where the county paid the funeral director a couple hundred dollars .They were the only whites to attend the services and sat with the family. When they arrived at the "after party" everyone stood and applauded. In a difficult time and a hard place, I'm sure they were criticized by many for their empathy and kindness.

I haven't tortured myself for ages with RR. I honestly believe he has gone over the edge and is sick, not because of his views, but because of his "style" and hate filled rants.

June 10, 2009:
Reverend Jeramiah Wright makes statements in interview regarding "Jews" will not let him talk to me...
The Thread asks "Is Racism Growing in America", I say no but clearly is being fed from the same usual sources.

Those that profit from racism will keep it alive and well, we see examples in Wright, Jackson to name a few.

Funny you say that, I was just telling my associate today that Jackson and Sharpton have been nonexistent since the primary? Maybe there is enough reverse discrimination to suite them now?

Jackson’s extended family and Sharpton’s tax free properties have secured their silence temporarily, but wait until there is an issue that fills their pockets without hesitation their ugly heads will be screaming.
