Newsweeks article last week...pretty scary and VERY SAD. ------------- Rebranding Hate in the Age of Obama With an African-American president and the economy in bad shape, extremist groups are trying to enter the mainstream—and they're having some success. It's not about hate, it's about love. Love of white people. That's the message in songs, speeches and casual conversation during a weekend retreat in Zinc, Ark., sponsored by the Christian Revival Center and the Knights Party, an offshoot of the Ku Klux Klan. There's no overt threat of violence here. No cross burnings (or "lightings," as the KKK prefers to call them). The only fire at the grassy compound, located at the end of a long, rocky road circled by turkey vultures, is a bonfire for the Knights youth corps to roast their s'mores. The kids draw pictures of white-hooded Klanspeople and sing songs about the oppressed Aryan race; rousing sermons are read from Bibles decorated with Confederate flags. Aryan souvenirs are for sale, including baseball caps proclaiming IT'S LOVE, NOT HATE and advertising THE ORIGINAL BOYZ IN THE HOOD. ---------------------------- LINK PROVIDED. www.newsweek.com/id/195085

more sad stuff from the same article mentioned above. ------------------------
Indoctrination often starts on the Internet. Some crazies posting on MySpace, for instance, have called for armed revolution; at least one has referred to Barack Obama as "a dead man." But many leaders of white-supremacist groups and Web forums are toning down their rhetoric. The aim is to attract the kind of person Robb describes as "the guy down the road who until now had his plasma TV and car in the garage, but just lost his job and won't find a new one because some illegal already has it."
Don Black, a 56-year-old former KKK grand wizard, says he no longer has any formal affiliation with the Klan because "it just got so demonized and attracted the wrong people; it just got to be impossible." But that doesn't mean he's given up the struggle. As the founder of Stormfront.org, he has the white-supremacist world at his fingertips, all from the comfort of his West Palm Beach, Fla., home. Last spring Black made it a policy for the site to "have no swastikas and Third Reich symbols to turn off first-time visitors."
Black had to upgrade his server after it crashed Nov. 5 along with another white-supremacist site, the Council of Conservative Citizens, according to the SPLC. "I knew we'd get a surge in interest [after the election], but I didn't expect so much; we couldn't handle it," says Black. In the 24 hours following Obama's victory, he says, 2,800 new users signed up. He claims 150,000 registered users and says he gets about 50,000 unique visits a day. (It's impossible to confirm the figures independently; the SPLC thinks the numbers are slightly higher, but civil-rights groups may also have an interest in exaggerating the phenomenon.) Stormfront has some 50 active forums, including venues for dating, financial advice, gardening and homemaking. Black has 65 volunteer moderators and three administrators.
One moderator, who goes by the alias Truck Roy, is a clean-cut 32-year-old who wouldn't give his real name for fear of losing his job. During the Knights weekend in Arkansas, Roy, a guest speaker, advised white recruiters to "keep it subtle. Don't hit 'em with anything too hard right off the bat or you will shock them. Find a chink in their armor and make friends. If you are too radical, they won't listen."

This is something I know about, from personal experience, mostly in the past, but still here and there today. More troubling than the blatent Klan type activity is the more subtle.I have in the past visited Stormfront but deleted it after I warned that it was not a safe site, through the WOT warning system.Just a week ago a party came into Babbo Grande restaurant on University at Park.Tony, the waiter, began to see them near us(5 family members). The man asked him "do you have anything closer to the door?
"(I never heard of anyone wanting to sit close to the door). My imagination?Maybe. The man's reason?I don't know, but it didn't feel right.Let's see what the others say, then I can respond.

Hey Bruce, sorry for my ignorance...
but what does the WOT warning mean?
and to answer your question then others can respond, When our President Obama was elected,,,I had a bad feeling that a large segment of America was not ready for a minority President. I have seen to much racism in my life and still see it in pockets in many places, cities, etc...

but what does the WOT warning mean? WOT “Web of Trust” a sophisticated network warning system. An add-on for your browser.

Thanks CM,I couldn't remember what the last word,"trust" was.You saved me looking it up.It's quite good,it rates virtually every site and even most links as to four traits :trustworthiness, child safe, security for financial transactions, and of course one I can't recall due to old age.
During the primaries,Barack Obama received more death threats than McCain,Clinton,Edwards,Romney,Huckabee,Paul,Kuchinek,Richardson and the others combined.A couple of "plots" were thwarted by the FBI against Obama, and none against all the others.Wonder why? There wewre even threats against Michelle and the girls, probably some guy "talking big" in a bar,but there were none known against any other candidates family.Wonder why?Of course they can be passed off as nutcases and whackos, but the threats still existed.

Jack Oliver,as I expected,no one wants to talk about this issue.Too uncomfortable for most. They'd rather talk about some guy we never heard of,and call him a child molester who never molested anyone.Go figure.

I know Bruce…I was hoping someone would talk about this… I wonder why this alarming and very disturbing topic is being ignored.. To me this is very serious and proves our great nation still has some growing to do. It is also very troubling that just because of Obama’s race, these KKK groups are able to recruit more members… Where does this racism and hatred towards minorities come from , even in this day and age? I am a white male from a deep military family and never have nor never will have tolerance for racism, ,especially in America in 2009. Bruce, do you think talk radio is tapping into this portion of America to increase their political opposition for our President Obama.? And also Bruce, do you think it is dangerous that some in America ignore this and turn a blind eye? Kinda like sins of omission? I love America too much to have racism come back, even by just ignoring it...I can tell you love America as well

Bruce, We eat out frequently and almost always sit by the door, open area or by a window as my wife is clostiphobic, but I do wonder what other people think when we asked to be moved. As someone of multiple races, including 1/32 black I’ll be sensitive from time to time. I’ve experienced a fair amount of racism, on the old RR message board it was very prevalent by one poster, I endured relentless vile attacks because I was not lily white and not born here. Some people are amazingly hypocritical.

Never forget the source of racism: Narcissism. All of us are prey to that on occasion.

I know from televison coverage of the T parties and I did not see any minorities.... I know these were not racist ralies, but Im a wonder if any were there?
I pray to god Bruce that this uptick in the KKK and racism as reported by Newsweek, since the election of our great President Obama, I hope it does not continue throughout his term..
Have you noticed anything getting worse in your area Bruce?
Here in San Diego, I have heard allot more angry people calling into Rick Roberts show demanding someone 'STOP OBAMA' !!!
Do you think there is a correlation?

Bruce, during the election , allot of right wing followers were being racist towards Obama, claiming he was not American and born in Kenya..and being a Muslim.
Do you think this type of attacks fuel the racists groups in America,,as to not even accept Obama as an American?
I wonder what small children think when they hear this...It really breaks my hear.

Personally,I will say that Myself, and my family, are rarely targets of real, blatant racism. My grandkids, whose ancestry has origins in every continent on earth, except Antartica, are shockingly unconcerned about race..Technically,since we have English ancestry(my mother was 1/2 English and half Portuguese,we even have distant relatives in Australia.
Well,I will answer Jack Os questions later as I have something important to do this afternoon, but today in the UT was a story about a hate crime in east county. In Deerhorn Valley.Several black teenager were the victims of assault and vandalism while attending a party.Racial slurs were shouted by eight white males,Their car was heavily damaged to the point it couldn't be driven. They were treated at a LaMesa hospital for minor to moderate injuries. Sheriff's deputies have interview 43 witnesses, and appear to be taking this incident seriously. That is the primary difference from the past, but the same behavior and problem.

I wish those that are racist screaming stop Obama would have the guts to say what they truely feel, instead of hidding behind politics.. thos republicans never complained about an out of control Bush?
