I live in one of the most eclectic neighborhoods in San Diego. I reject your race-baiting, Jack Oliver.
And, Bruce, with all due respect, shouldn't your grandchildren being "shockingly unconcerned" with race be a good sign?

Jack O, there were hispanics at the Tea party in Escondido that were actively protesting. I saw an African American family there, but, they may have just been there to see what was going on.
I could safely say that I saw racists there, too. This was evident by the signs they carried. But, since I knew many people at the event, including city council members, Escondido FD and PD, people that I know to be anything but hateful, I was pleased to be in their number.
It was too bad that so many that criticized the whole idea of the Tea Parties didn't think to go and actually see with their own eyes what it was about.
Instead, they listened to the MSM and CNN as they twisted things to conform to their own agendas.
Did you see any of that?

Jack Oliver, I think you are wrong on all counts. You offered up an out-of-context idea suggesting it is racism. I offered up a plausible alternative. I do agree with Nikki you are race baiting. You should know better and IMO you should stop.

Now that this topic is warming up, I do want to offer as a possibility for it taking its sweet time to do so was out of a certain amount of respect for the one person here most affected. Perhaps more accurately 1 and 1/32 people.

Racism's best friend is those who "think it has been conquered" in the USA or any other country! It is renewed each and every time rhetoric such as this comes up focused on such extreme groups as the KKK. I for one do a significant amount of daily business on the internet and visit all sorts of related sites but don't see the issue so I think one has to target visit these types of sites to gain ammunition?
IMO that Racism is clearly not owned by the Black community or our first Black President and in our "Finest City" it is much more directed at the Hispanic than the Black which represents the lesser minority on quantity scale only.
Many times the Race card comes up when people want to diliberately distract attention from the real issues and in the case of Obama it is clearly the case. Originally raised by none other than Eric Holder himself calling out most of us as "Racial Cowards". Racism is clearly a form of HATE which propagates frequently when certain groups speak out or other groups selectively quote the other group to distract from other things. It becomes a vicous circle of discontent and builds.
I maintain the only acceptable PREJUDICE is toward STUPIDity! We simply can not fix Stupid, all other things are manageable with respect and honesty!

Bruce mentioned about the racist attack recently in east county... As an American, I dont think this topic should be taken lightly or ignored. Im also suprised of angry responses...all this information is in the news. It is not make believe .

Jack O, I think Johng summed it up well with:
Would you consider his words, all of them, in his last post remarkable?
I do.

You should know better and IMO you should stop. ------- Here in San Diego, I have heard allot more angry people calling into Rick Roberts show demanding someone 'STOP OBAMA' !!! CM wrote: Not racism but people recognizing an out of control agenda that they believe needs to be stopped. That would make me angry. _---------------- Im sorry Cm, I dont see how people thinking Obama is out of control relates to the increase of racism in the Newsweek article? I dont like to disagree with you because you have the power to take me off this board... Are you saying racism does not exist? ARe you saying the newsweek article is false? Are you saying Bruce's reporting of the attack in east county is not true? or do you just dont like this topic? Im sorry if it is an uncomfortable subject,,,but those that are targets of racism are even more uncomfortable. And this is also a valid subject since our President is African American...

I know Bruce…I was hoping someone would talk about this… I wonder why this alarming and very disturbing topic is being ignored.. To me this is very serious and proves our great nation still has some growing to do. It is also very troubling that just because of Obama’s race, these KKK groups are able to recruit more members… Where does this racism and hatred towards minorities come from , even in this day and age? I am a white male from a deep military family and never have nor never will have tolerance for racism, ,especially in America in 2009. Bruce, do you think talk radio is tapping into this portion of America to increase their political opposition for our President Obama.? And also Bruce, do you think it is dangerous that some in America ignore this and turn a blind eye? Kinda like sins of omission? I love America too much to have racism come back, even by just ignoring it...I can tell you love America as well Im sorry Cm, I dont see how people thinking Obama is out of control relates to the increase of racism in the Newsweek article? I dont like to disagree with you because you have the power to take me off this board... Are you saying racism does not exist? ARe you saying the newsweek article is false? Race baiting Jack Oliver, I will not be the one removing you. Everyone is trying to help you, pay attention. I forgot to add argumentative – that is flaming.

Jack Oliver, I will not try to justify racism nor try to say it does not exist. Unfortunately it does! What is missing in that article and your comments are the facts that there is plenty of reverse discrimination! Many minorities can discriminate towards whites, yet little if anything is said. While there are white supremists groups, any peaceful WHITE group that tries to form an organization to further improve themselves like the minority groups are immediately attacked as RACIST! This is completely wrong yet it very much exists! I once tried to organize a study group of scandinavians (although I am of mixed blood) and was stopped as it "appeared" to be racist (we were all white in appearance). It was just a study group just like the Hispanic organizations & Black organizations on campus. Whites do not have a monopoly on having racist organizations, nor does the Republican party. Take off your blinders and look around you! One last statement, it seems that any attempt to stop Obama, change his direction or any opposition is immediately called out as racist! These actions would likely still be taking place even if he was white provided he maintained the same actions and philosophies. Yet, would we then be called racist? I think not! Therefore, those calling his opposition racists are in themselves being racist! This isn't as much as I would like to write but I must take my grandson to his baseball game!

Hatch.your math is off:it's 1/2+1/32not 1+1/32.No,nikki,my grandkids dismissal of racism is dangerous. They need to know the realities of life. All of my extended family live in areas where they are a minority;Hillcrest,la Vista,Spring Valley,Rancho Bernardo,La Mesa,Serra Mesa, and Rancho Penasquitos.(Side light:the former black "ghetto",southeast San Diego,is now majority hispanic.)
The attacks on Jack Oliver on this issue are unfair. He is not necessarily exaggerating or "stirring up the pot".What he says is basically true.Well,I've got go,I do appreciate the response of you all.I'm pretty tied up,working on the building computer that the tenants can use, more tomorrow. P>S> CM ,how did you get the 1/32?Just being nosey.

I for one am glad you posted the article, Jack O. There is truth to the claim that racism is on the rise for no better reason than the race of the President of the United States. Stupid people exist. Give them a reason, and they will work hard to prove themselves.
I am almost at a point where I think we ought to form a posse and go after the rat baspersons and eliminate them from the face of the earth. The trouble with that is, I am not smart enough to separate out those that hate other races from those that just hate the way "other" people think. The line gets a bit blurry for my sorry eyes.
So, I may just have to back away from this topic. I may just go nukier against people that are of the same species as I, but who have a different point of view.
Hatred manifests itself in all kinds of guises.
