Bruce, it was Rocket's post it is worth a read and a reread Bruce, I guess you did not read all the way to the end to read my two cents about Rocket's post. Whatever. I do notice that his karma made a dramatic jump within 24 hours from -9 to -3. That means that a least 5 other people here also found his post worthy of consideration. My karma, however, took a two-point dive; but, hey, I can handle it. Here's an exalt for ya Nikki. Rocket's post was well written drawing comparisons with current day and (non-selective) history. Perhaps some should read it without rose-colored glasses.

The right wing is not going to "roll over" on this one. I doubt that the right wing/conservative justices pay much attention to the "equal right to the poor and rich" section. The entire clause means that they will treat all equally. Meanwhile the right wing hate machine is already gearing up. Of course if the Republicans try to sabotage a female hispanic, they can kiss the next two or three elections goodbye, probably for decades. Listen to Hannity and Limbaugh howl! I certainly have far better things to do than list to Sean or Rush. You said it, Repubs could kiss the next election goodbye opposing Obama’s selection, that is why I believe they will back off, I could be wrong.

The "Hitler" bit is getting a bit tiresome. Most of the country is with the direction the country is doing. Most of us don't fall for the scare tactics and Hitler comparisons. Yes Bruce, this Hitler comparison is hysterical !!!!! The GOP Extream Talk Radio seems desperate by promoting this new hysterical claim. Ok let me get this straight..Per GOP Talk Radio Obama is from kenya, Obama is a Muslim, and now, Obama is like Hitler. !!!!! You cant even make this stuff up if you tried? Well I guese Talk Radio is trying. ;D You don’t get do ya? Change, practice change - debate the points of the post and not the poster.

It's pretty sad when an argument over someone's qualifications ignores background, ideology and merit in favor of gender and ethnicity. Doesn't say much for the relative intelligence of the electorate either if they base their vote on such shallow considerations.

I think I have already praised Rocket's excellent post elsewhere. So now comes the time to say where I disagree with it. He sees a lot of parallels with Germany of the 30's. I'm just not seeing it. Where are the brownshirts in running gun battles with Communists in the streets? Where are the disgruntled WWI vets still bitter over their defeat and subsequent mishandling of Germany by the allies? Where is the revitalization and rebuilding of a powerful defense industry, and the militarization of the culture? Where is the criticism of the avante-garde in arts? The condemnation of homosexuals and Jews? None of this is happening, so how is German history being repeated in America?

The right wing hysteria over Sonia has already started. "hispanic chick"-Glen Beck; "I question her intellect" Karl Rove, a college dropout. Ms. Sotomayor was a summa cum laude graduate of Princeton. Tom Tancredo was spouting off on "The Ed Show". It's just begun.
However, there is some indication that some Republican Senators will end up not opposing her; they can see the writing on the wall that a knock down, drag out fight will only hurt the party, and she will win nomination anyway.

Judge Sotomayor is a non issue and will be confirmed in fast order. I am sure Pelosi and Reid have clarified to her that Laws are made by Congress and Judges uphold the law in accordance with the US Constitution.

THAT IS ALL I SAID. I assuming you were responding to Rocket’s and Tired’s posts, which neither made the references you suggest. Nor can I find any point you are debating. You accuse poster of right wing smear tactics, it could be said your post are left wing propaganda. I suggest you pick an issue in a post and prove it wrong and debate without labeling the poster. We all make mistakes, step over the line, make dumb statements, say things we wish we had not, but not in every post. You can always appeal to Proud Brit.

Sotomayor is not my biggest worry as she is known to be a racist, sexist and partial Judge on the bench. The next opening on the Supreme Court (which I suspect will be vacant early next year) is the turning point for America. That is when the Obama Administration completely shreds the US Constitution and finishes the process for all. Hats off to all the liberals who have fought so long and hard to destroy the freedoms we have. Let our Flag fly high and proud for the remaining days we have left (this may change soon when we enter WWIII with N. Korea pulling everyone in). I hope the liberals have as much backbone as they do hate and discontent for the Greatest Nation on Earth!

The next vacancy ( hopefully Scalia, Thomas, or one of the other neanderthals) will be an opportunity to get the supreme court back on the side of liberty and justice for all, not just for corporate America and right wing ideology. When all is done, a stronger and fairer USA will emerge.

I'd like to know, Bruce, what SCOTUS decisions in the last 20 years, or more, you disagree with. Do you know of any dissenting opinions from conservative justices that did not appeal to you?
How do conservative justices earn your label "neanderthal"?

Careful what you ask for you just may get it!

President Obama's choice for supreme court is a true reflection of America today. It is wonderful that Obama is taking consideration of ALL America in his choice and is bringing the Supreme Court into the 21st Century.... It's a long long way from the Gold Old Boys way of controling the country and ideals. No wonder one of the only leaders of the GOP right now, Rush Limbaugh, is going nuts and attacking the first female latina Supreme Court Justice who is a DEMOCRAT> All his gold old boy ways are riding off into the sunset. Now America is taking control back of it's own country and the MAJORITY of America are loving It!!!! I am very proud of being an American! God Bless All of America !
