Well, a month has gone by and so far it appears that America having a lunatic President makes no obvious difference in world affairs. The rest of the world just seems to treat it as Business as Usual. Who knew? Domestically, while polarization and vitriol (look at this board) have gone way up, only a few people believe Trump is insane like I do. The libs I know just think he's an awful person. Time will tell. Sorry to Burst your He is More Sane! Look at the Democrap liberals They are more Insane! I never knew Bush is the Prez. According to Nutty Nancy! He is Cleaning House from both sides But the Democraps leaves lot more Trash than Repukes! Try Again! I would LOVE someone to convince me he is sane, but so far no one has been able to.

www.aljazeera.com/indepth/opinion/2017/03/heed-turkish-concerns-syria-170315073720717.html "The US appears set to move forward with arming and supporting the PKK-linked YPG in preparation for the Raqqa operation. This is not only the continuation of a misguided policy left over from the Obama administration, but it also risks irreparable damage to US' relations with Turkey, a critical ally in the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS). Turkey has been quite hopeful about a potential change in Syria policy under the Trump administration, but all indications are that the new US administration's Syria policy is also dominated by the fight against ISIL. Under Donald Trump, the Pentagon is focused on achieving a victory against ISIL by working with "local partners" and limiting American "boots on the ground". which is a continuation of the Obama administration's strategy. This approach disregards Turkey's concerns and spells instability and unpredictability after dislodging ISIL from Raqqa and northern Syria." Doesn't look like there is a whole lot of air between Obama's foreign policies and Trump's. Not very surprising.

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/aug/28/donald-trump-asshole-duncan-hunter"Duncan Hunter of California was one of Donald Trump’s first backers on Capitol Hill, long before it became fashionable. But like other Republicans, there are signs of buyer’s remorse. “He’s just like he is on TV,” the congressman reportedly told colleagues on Friday. “He’s an asshole, but he’s our asshole.” The comment was reported by the San Diego Union-Tribune, which said it was recounted by four people present when Hunter spoke at a Riverside County Young Republicans meeting at a sports bar in Murrieta, California. The San Diego-area congressman and Marine combat veteran was one of the first members to endorse Trump during his divisive, anti-establishment campaign for president. A member of the House armed services committee, Hunter has written newspaper columns defending Trump’s approach to Russia." I love this. My looney ex-Congressman dissing our looney President. If Trump was only an asshole instead of insane, we could all sleep better.

Well, with DACA we had one President trying to do the right thing, and now we have a President undoing it. Oh well, one way or another in 100 years we will have no borders. Borders are a human thing. Machines need no borders.

It is actually kind of comforting realizing that it makes almost no difference who is in the WH.

Let's review (there will be a quiz). Here's my summary of our four Boomer Presidents: Bill was a creep, George was a dunce, Barack was a fraud, and Donald is insane. Hopefully 2020 will be the last year of a Boomer President, even though I'm still not convinced it makes a difference who is in the WH. I suspect they are all tools of the Powers-that-be.

I was going to make a thread called "Dark Times" about how much worse things might get before they get better, but then I thought "Why have another Trump thread?". And besides, my mood of gloom and doom has passed for now.

I am almost convinced that it makes no difference who is in the WH. Despite having an unhinged clown as President, it's 99% business as usual for most of us.

Also, it doesn't matter how big of a moron the President is, his party will cover for him.

So Joe Biden (yawn) has thrown his hat into the ring (yawn) for the 2020 Presidential election (yawn). And there is only 18 yawn-filled months until the (yawn) election.

www.nytimes.com/2019/05/02/us/politics/elizabeth-warren-iowa.html?action=click&module=Top%20Stories&pgtype=Homepage"WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — It was game time at the “Persist Party.” Grace Smith, a 23-year-old field organizer for Senator Elizabeth Warren’s presidential campaign, outlined the rules. The dozen or so Iowans gathered in a volunteer’s family room would split into two teams, pick paper slips from a bag and try to get their teammates to guess what was on them. Many of the words and phrases on the slips reflected the vocabulary of Ms. Warren’s presidential bid: Break up big tech. Ultra-millionaire wealth tax. Student debt cancellation. Impeachment. When the game ended, “Persist” koozies were awarded to the winners. Ms. Smith is one of about 50 paid staff members Ms. Warren’s campaign already has on the ground in Iowa, far more than any other Democratic candidate is known to have hired in the state. The growing Warren juggernaut reflects a bet that rapidly hiring a large staff of organizers will give the senator an advantage over her rivals who are ramping up their efforts at a slower pace." EW is going to try her best to win at the first stop on America's dysfunctional primary system road to the WH. She would be an awesome person to go up against the Orange Monster, win or lose. Meanwhile, Sanders and Biden make me puke.

www.nytimes.com/2019/06/01/business/economy/trump-trade-tariffs-mexico-cost.html?action=click&module=Well&pgtype=Homepage§ion=Business"When trade tensions with China flared last year, many companies sought refuge in a country with a long, stable relationship with the United States: Mexico. Now, that alternative for production and materials may also be in jeopardy with President Trump’s threat to impose escalating tariffs on imports from Mexico, aimed at forcing action on illegal immigration. In the short term, the tariffs would mean lower profits for American importers and higher prices for American consumers on everything from avocados to Volkswagens. In the long run, they could force companies to reconsider the continent-spanning supply chains that have made North America one of the world’s most interconnected economies. That disruption, experts warn, could be far more damaging to the United States economy than the cost of tariffs themselves." When Hillary and Trump were running against each other in 2016, it became obvious to me (and everyone else) that Hillary was the candidate of the Status Quo. Which is maybe one of the reasons she lost. I was beginning to think Trump was pretty much a status quo type too, but then he pulls this Mexico stunt, allegedly over an issue as dumb as immigration. I like it. We need consumer goods to be more expensive. That's the only way to cut consumption, which is deadly to the environment. So maybe Trump is a secret Green!

Even if it's true that it doesn't matter who is President, it's too depressing to admit. So I'm going to pretend 2020 matters.

One of the few interesting things about Presidential elections are the questions they answer. First, starting with Clinton, we found out what a Boomer President would do, which was nothing. But with a Republican Boomer President (Bush 43) we got into two pointless wars. And we found out having a mixed race President brought the yahoos out of the woodwork. And now Trump is answering the question what would happen if we elected an unhinged President. Not much.
