I guess the Republican attempt to make Benghazigate a campaign issue fell flat. I just don't think too many people give a crap what is happening over there anymore. I suspect we have "War on Terrorism" fatigue. I expect the Kagans to come out any day now with one of their regularly scheduled "we have to keep up the good fight" spiels.

www.nytimes.com/2012/12/11/opinion/al-qaeda-in-syria.html?ref=opinion"The presence of rebel fighters in Syria that were trained and supported by Al Qaeda poses a serious problem for the United States and Western allies. The Nusra Front, an offshoot of Al Qaeda in Iraq, has become one of the most effective forces fighting against President Bashar al-Assad." "Mr. Obama has blacklisted the Nusra Front as a terrorist organization, which would make it illegal for Americans to have financial dealings with it. It makes sense to isolate the group and try to dry up its resources, but the designation by itself isn’t sufficient. American officials have to make a case directly to the countries or actors that are believed to be most responsible, either directly or as a conduit, for the weapons and other assistance to the Nusra Front: Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Iraqi Kurdistan. However much they may want to see Mr. Assad fall, they play a deadly game in empowering any affiliate of Al Qaeda, which though weakened, is dedicated to global jihad and the violent overthrow of Sunni monarchies." Gosh, American foreign policy has gotten itself between a rock and a hard place. In the zeal of our jihad against Al Qaeda, we limit our ability to back forces attempting to overthrow the remaining bloodthirsty dictators in the Middle East. That makes us look bad in the "Muslim Street", which we claim to be trying to win the hearts and minds of. What's a Foreign Policy Establishment to do?
I do have to add how disappointed I am in Hillary as Secretary of State. Turned out she was just another apparatchik in our Business As Usual foreign policies. I'd worry about the Dems running her in 2016, but worrying about the future is a waste of time in my book.

My point was how our foreign policy geniuses want it both ways: They want to kill off Al Qaeda while bringing down despotic regimes who suppressed Al Qaeda. I agree with you: Get the hell out and the devil with all of them, including the Israelis.

The key here is that globalist groups assistance the modify in The Egypt exactly because nothing will modify for the populace. The Egypt individuals will not obtain real impact in the state policies of their own nation, and they may have even less impact over their own life if a army facilities continues to be included within their govt.

America has a long history of supporting military governments against Communists and other "subversives". Democracy is usually an afterthought. So much for the "Moral high ground."

You make a good point, CB. The intervention in Libya divided both Democrats and Republicans. I suppose if it had been Bush instead of Obama getting involved, there WOULD have been an outcry from more libs. Unfortunately, that is an ugly side effect of having your guy in the White House, no matter what party he is.

Speaking of lame Baby Boomers, IMO Hillary made a goodbye blunder by gushing our support for the authoritarian regime in Algeria during the hostage crisis. I guess what we think we learned from Egypt is that thug regimes are better than the annoying chaos of democracy. Very short sighted, but that makes it NOT MY PROBLEM I guess.

This is how doing in dirtbags works, CB, one dirtbag at a time. Khaddafi got just what he deserved, as will Assad, and we have to let the chips fall where they may. That the Tauregs are aligned with our big bogeyman Al Qaeda at the moment is just a bridge we have to cross now that Khaddafi is in Hell. The Sunnis of Iraq were allied with Al Qaeda too, until they turned on them when they realized the USA was the lesser of two evils. And besides, the USA was giving away Big Bucks. The Russkis just have an inferiority complex. Come to think of it, we allied ourselves with Russia to defeat Hitler, and then turned on Stalin after Hitler was sent to Hell.

Now that we are out of Iraq (mostly), they are turning away from us. Libya is already asking the western powers to leave. Egypt has never shown any support towards us from the new regime, only asking for military equipment. Syria was probably better off than it will be when the rebels take control, they are anti-U.S. also. And Obama wants to leave Afghanistan with that job unfinished. Just as well, they only want our money and the same goes for Pakistan. Now the conflict is moving into Africa and Obama wants to give limited aid there as well. We have basically lost respect, control and allies all over the Middle East during the Obama administration. It seems that he knows what he is doing and he supports the Muslim Brotherhood. He has been supporting the enemy!

You've covered a lot of ground, Tired. You see some evil Obama conspiracy, but all I see is a foreign policy in disarray. Do you think we should go back to the Bush Doctrine? I'm sure the Neocons do. I think they were licking their lips at the thought of being able to go after Iran if Romney won. Still, they know what they wanted, but I'm not sure the Obamistas do. Even Hillary couldn't get a grip on the wisest course. Looks to me like will we just bounce from one crisis to another without accomplishing anything for the next four years. Certainly they won't ask ME what they should do. Of course, as always, we also have the anchor of Israel tied around our neck as we try to tread water. And I'm not sure China or the banks want to lend us any more money to fight our wars. Not only that, I'm not sure the upcoming new generation of voters is as obsessed with Al Qaeda and the so-called "War on Terrorism" as the Baby Boomers are.

Listening to Preacher Beck this morning (I can't help myself, I'm a fan of propaganda), and he said that The Butcher of Damascus Assad was preferable to radical Islamists in the opposition. Is this just Beck in la-la land, or is this now the right wing narrative?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-22458288"The man tipped to be Pakistan's next prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, has said he would end the country's involvement in the US-led war on terror if elected. Mr Sharif told the BBC that the move was necessary for there to be peace in Pakistan and elsewhere in the world. Pakistan has been part of the US-led fight against Islamist militancy in the region since the 9/11 attacks." Hmmm, I wonder what American libs who bought into the "War on Terror" are going to say about this?
