www.nytimes.com/2013/04/19/world/middleeast/israeli-officials-stress-readiness-for-lone-strike-on-iran.html?ref=world&_r=0 "Mr. Steinitz, the minister of strategic affairs, argued that it was easier to intercept a nuclear project at the enrichment phase than after a decision to actually to build a bomb. Assembling a bomb might take several more months, “but this can be done in a little room like this office,” he said. “It is very hard to detect and supervise. Once the Iranians have completed enrichment, they are actually on the verge of a bomb.” “We have to learn a lesson from what happened with North Korea,” Mr. Steinitz added. “To think that fanatic regimes will be rational when they have nuclear weapons — such fanatic regimes cannot be trusted.” Gee, that's funny- IMO Israel is a fanatic regime too, and it already HAS bombs...

www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/hagel-mideast-arms-deal-a-very-clear-signal-to-iran/2013/04/21/888abd64-aa73-11e2-8559-85e32b44d524_story.html?hpid=z3"JERUSALEM — Defense Secretary ck Hagel arrived in Israel on Sunday to put the finishing touches on a complicated $10 billion arms deal with three Middle Eastern countries, saying the pact sends “a very clear signal” to Iran. Under preliminary terms of the agreement, the United States would sell tilt-rotor V-22 Osprey aircraft — which can take off like a helicopter but cruise at airplane speed — to Israel. It would be the first time the Pentagon has approved a foreign sale of the Osprey, which can carry combat troops and are prized for their maneuverability The United States also would provide Israel with KC-135 refueling planes, which could extend the range of Israeli fighters and bombers so that they could be used for an attack on a country like Iran. Israel also would acquire advanced missiles for its warplanes." This is good. It makes it less likely that WE will do Israel's dirty work, and Israelis will die, not Americans. It is Israel's paranoia that drives this jihad against Iran after all.

Sounds like Israel is having a gay old time with it's warplanes over Syria. Who's going to jump in next?

www.aljazeera.com/news/middleeast/2013/07/2013714214528446397.html"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Iran is moving "closer and closer" to building a nuclear weapon and warned that his country may have to act against Tehran to curb it from achieving its goal before the United States does. "They're edging up to the red line. They haven't crossed it yet," Netanyahu said on Sunday on CBS News's "Face the Nation." "They're getting closer and closer to the bomb. And they have to be told in no uncertain terms that that will not be allowed to happen." Netanyahu went on to say that Israel had a more narrow timetable than Washington, implying it may have to take unilateral action to halt Iran's controversial nuclear programme. "Our clocks are ticking at a different pace. We're closer than the United States. We're more vulnerable. And therefore, we'll have to address this question of how to stop Iran, perhaps before the United States does," he said." Oh, this is just what we need to add to our other foreign policy disasters in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and Egypt!

www.aljazeera.com/indepth/opinion/2013/07/2013728103426476823.html"Why is it then that US Secretary of State John Kerry is so eager to push both parties into another set of negotiations that are highly likely to be not only unproductive but counterproductive, by fuelling Palestinian anger by their failure and thus bringing us a step closer to the inevitable third intifada? The answer is simple. The United States needs Israel and the Palestinian Authority to start negotiations for the sake of negotiations well before the UN General Assembly convenes in September so that it can be spared another major embarrassment on the issue of Palestinian statehood when the General Assembly convenes. If Kerry can demonstrate that an American-sponsored peace process is underway he can forestall criticism both of Israel and of the United States in the General Assembly for lack of progress toward Palestinian statehood. The primary reason for the Kerry initiative is to deflect international criticism of the United States for its failure to stop Israeli colonisation of the West Bank which is rendering Palestinian statehood impossible. It has become increasingly clear to seasoned observers of the Middle East that Washington's inability to make a dent in Israel's settlement policy is not only a question of the tail wagging the dog; it demonstrates that on the Palestine issue the dog and the tail have switched roles." Is anyone even paying attention to Kerry going through the motions of making peace? America's credibility is reaching new lows.

www.aljazeera.com/indepth/features/2013/08/201381410565517125.html"Nazareth, Israel - Israel's secretive arms trade is booming as never before, according to the latest export figures. But it is also coming under mounting scrutiny as some analysts argue that Israel has grown dependent on exploiting the suffering of Palestinians for military and economic gain. A new documentary, called The Lab, has led the way in turning the spotlight on Israel's arms industry. It claims that four million Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza have become little more than guinea pigs in military experiments designed to enrich a new elite of arms dealers and former generals. The film's release this month in the United States follows news that Israeli sales of weapons and military systems hit a record high last year of $7.5bn, up from $5.8bn the previous year. A decade ago, Israeli exports were worth less than $2bn. Israel is now ranked as one of the world's largest arms exporters - a considerable achievement for a country smaller than New York.Yotam Feldman, director of The Lab and a former journalist with Israel's Haaretz newspaper, says Israel has turned the occupied territories into a laboratory for refining, testing and showcasing its weapons systems."

He’s pulled out of a June conference that’s being hosted by Israeli president Shimon Peres in Jerusalem, The U.K. Guardian reported. Mr. Peres hosts an annual Facing Tomorrow event that attracts thousands from around the world — and is headlined by world-famous personalities." The movement to hold Zionism accountable for what it has done to the Palestinians continues to build.

If my memory serves me well, Bush Sr. had to keep Israel from retaliating when Saddam shot missiles at it when we kicked him out of Kuwait. So now Assad is threatening Israel if we go after his air bases? Will Israel retaliate this time, throwing more gasoline on an already burning Middle East? What kind of an ally is it we have to continually restrain? What good is having Israel as an ally doing America?

www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-28392636"Israel says that 13 of its soldiers have died since Saturday night in its ground offensive in the Gaza Strip. It brings the number of Israeli soldiers killed in the offensive to 18. Gaza suffered the highest death toll since the offensive began, with at least 87 people reported killed on Sunday - 60 of them in one area. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said the deaths in the Shejaiya district east of Gaza City were a "massacre". Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to continue operations in Gaza "as much as we need to" despite the casualties." I have a feeling every war Israel engages in is another nail in it's coffin. It's hard to say how much longer America will ensure Israel's survival when we are being taken apart by internal divisions, and then Israel will be left alone surrounded by enemies and with a legacy of violence.

www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/aug/5/partisan-enthusiasm-gap-emerges-over-us-alliance-w/"Mr. Silverman is thrilled with the turnout of 2,200 demonstrators at the Capitol, but he is worried about the Democratic Party’s increasingly cold shoulder toward Israel. “Frankly, it kind of staggers me that this could be a partisan issue, but it’s becoming that way,” Mr. Silverman, a former Denver prosecutor, said on his KNUS-AM talk show. “Support for Israel among Democrats has gone way down. Among Republicans, it’s still solid. And I think that’s a damn shame, and I call on Democratic leaders to turn that around.” The Denver rally wasn’t an outlier. President Obama’s calls for a cease-fire in the conflict between Israel and Hamas, along with his administration’s recent criticism of Israel, have exposed a partisan divide that would have been unimaginable a decade ago." It's about frakkin' time that at least one party is starting to get suspicious of our so-called ally.
