Listened to Fiona Hill on NPR-she is everywhere-and of course she said Putin was Hitler.

I think I mentioned before that it seemed to me even 190,000 Russian soldiers did not seem like enough to subjugate a country the size of Ukraine, and events may prove me right (for once). And of course NATO is sending as many anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles as it can to kill as many Russians as possible. Will the Russians forget?

Putin should have listened to me when I said 190,000 soldiers were no where near enough to subdue Ukraine. He should fire his generals.

Does Zelensky actually want WW3?

I haven’t read any polling yet, but I suspect 90% of Americans support arming the Ukrainians (or Iranians as our needle-sharp Commander-in-Chief said). I’m not one of them. Right now, Zelensky’s resistance is heroic, but how will it end? Of course I wish Putin will come to his senses, but if not, how bloody will this get? How much of Ukraine will be destroyed? How many Ukrainians may become permanent refugees? How much militarism will sweep Europe? America, of course, will be deeply involved, like in the Middle East, like in the South China Sea. A draft? It’s possible. Right now we are mostly united, but for how long? What is the risk of things going nuclear? As for me, I’m used to being in a minority politically. Of course I expect to be vindicated, but that’s not how history works.

Has Zelensky pushed NATO into WW3 yet?

Looks like the Russians are starting to adapt to the conditions on the ground in Ukraine. Artillery is one answer to Ukrainian infantry with advanced anti-tank weapons. Another might be encirclement and cutoff from resupply, as at Stalingrad.

Interesting watching Russia getting its ass kicked militarily and propaganda wise. Lotsa cool videos. If I was Putin I would be watching my back.

As I said before, I didn’t think Putin was going to invade Ukraine because he had only amassed 190,000 soldiers. And now, with attrition he has even less then that. Go big or go home, Vlad.

So Newsmax is accusing Biden of pressuring Zelensky to settle with Putin. I certainly hope so.

I can think of Russia’s retreat from Kiev two ways: A humiliating defeat or the ability of their army to adapt to the tactical situation.

So even the Pope has jumped on the Zelensky bandwagon, kissing a Ukrainian flag. But then the Catholics have often cozied up to ultra-Nationalists.

Oh boy. The Ukrainians sunk a Russia cruiser. Am I supposed to cheer? I’m sure there are right-wing Russian nutcases saying they should bomb Ukraine “Back to the Stone Age”.

Apparently the Russians are massing for an offensive in Eastern Ukraine after their defeat in Kiev. Ukrainian troops are entrenched, so it could be like 1917 with Russians trying to overwhelm the defenders. We will see how the Russians adapt to fighting over level ground against Javelins, and in the air against Stingers. Does Russia have any Rommels or Pattons?

I believe Germany went to war in 1939 to undo the results of 1918, and now Russia has gone to war to undo some of the results of the West’s Glorious Victory over the Soviet Union in 1989.
