www.nytimes.com/2017/02/12/world/europe/germany-frank-walter-steinmeier-merkel.html?_r=0"Seven months before national elections in Germany, the prevailing wisdom has held that Ms. Merkel, now seeking a fourth four-year term as chancellor, is most vulnerable to the rising popularity of the country’s far right, just as other populist, far-right parties are gaining in coming elections in the Netherlands and France. Yet suddenly, Germany’s left has unexpectedly resurged, prompting Der Spiegel magazine this weekend to pose a question on its cover: “Will She Fall?” A reliable answer is not in sight. The shocks of 2016 — Britain’s vote to leave the European Union and the election of Donald J. Trump as president of the United States — have profoundly shaken Germany, which depends more than any other European nation on Pax Americana and global institutions set up after World War II. But on Sunday, the rebound of the left — along with the broad German distaste for Mr. Trump that has helped fuel it — was on full display. The center-left Social Democrat Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who has served in Ms. Merkel’s coalition government as foreign minister for seven years, won the presidency with 931 votes in the 1,260-member assembly that elects the president to a five-year term." So the stench of the Trump Reich may be starting to influence politics overseas.

Like it or not, America has had to jump on the Trump Crazy Train, and world leaders seem to be treating him like just another American President. The only folks who haven't chimed in are the people of other countries. What kind of reception will he get overseas, if he ever goes overseas? I suspect he will have a police cordon around him a mile wide wherever he goes.

So Trump has ripped the "Freedom Caucus". Doesn't he love freedom? Maybe he should move to NK.

A lot can happen when you go to the movies. I went into a movie thinking Trump was going to stick the policy of going after ISIS and not caring if we allied ourselves with Assad to do so. When I came out, Trump had blasted an Assad airbase. So what might the consequences of that action be? Don't ask me, I predicted Trump would do nothing.

www.nytimes.com/2017/04/08/opinion/a-strike-in-syria-restores-our-credibility-in-the-world.html?action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=opinion-c-col-left-region®ion=opinion-c-col-left-region&WT.nav=opinion-c-col-left-region&_r=0"In one night, President Trump turned the tables. He showed the world that when the United States issues a warning, it will back up its words with action. There was no hand-wringing, no straw-man choice between doing nothing and launching a massive ground invasion, no dithering for consultations with others who do not have the power to act. The American president voiced his disapproval, conducted an orderly and secret process at the National Security Council, and then delivered a retaliatory strike many years overdue. The world now sees that President Trump does not share his predecessor’s reluctance to use force. And that’s why nations across the world have rallied to our side, while Russia and Iran are among the few to have condemned the attack." So here is Rotten Cotton's spin on Trump's sham airstrike on a Syrian airfield. You can bet the Russkies are winking an eye at our Fearless Leader. But if "nations across the world" have actually "rallied to our side" instead of rolling their eyes, then my expectations were once again wrong. If this is what the world wants, who am I to disagree?

As I said elsewhere, some people claim it is the French backlash to Trump that sunk Le Pen. Ah, silver linings. I wonder if this might be the start of the world waking up to the Trump Reich, and maybe putting a stake through the heart of the American Empire. As I said in 1989 when the Soviet Union fell, one Evil Empire down, one to go.

The Republican Party was once the party of small government, free trade, traditional values, principled foreign policy leadership and, most important of all, adherence to the Constitution. Republicans spent decades fulminating against activist judges like Earl Warren and activist politicians like Barack Obama, claiming they were undermining the founders’ vision of limited government. And then, the party sold its soul to the soulless charlatan who now occupies the Oval Office and makes a mockery of every one of the party’s principles." I knew there had to be at least ONE Republican with the integrity to leave the Trump GOP.
