ESCONDIDO ---- County plans to widen a 1-mile stretch of Bear Valley Parkway would include demolishing between 14 and 20 homes just east of the city, which has angered at least one resident who says he doesn't want to lose the home he spent years remodeling.
"I love my house and I've done a lot of work here," said Paul Drown, who has lived on the eastern side of Bear Valley Parkway since 1985. "They have talked before about widening the street, but not once in my lifetime has anybody talked about taking my house."
County officials said this week that Drown is mistaken, and that their plans to widen Bear Valley between Boyle Avenue and San Pasqual Valley Road have always included demolishing homes. However, county officials said a strong backlash from residents could prompt design changes that might spare a few of the homes.
