Hey, you computer geeks, my computer keeps prompting me to intall Silverlight, and it is not allowing me to work as usual. What is Silverlight, and should I install it? Thanx. Nikki, Dolphie can provide more detail. But SilverLight is a Microsoft Media Player. I installed it about a year ago and it screwed up MS Media Player and Media Player has never worked correctly since. Thanks. I know that I never installed it. Maybe it came with the computer. It kept saying that "The version of the Silverlight plug-in installed on your computer is no longer valid" and kept prompting me to upgrade and install. I had no idea, but just got pissed off and went to control panel and it was there, so I uninstalled it. Seems to be okay now, but I guess I will see what happens.

Nikki, Dolphie can provide more detail. But SilverLight is a Microsoft Media Player. I installed it about a year ago and it screwed up MS Media Player and Media Player has never worked correctly since. It is Microsoft's version of Flash Player and is to enhance video/audio streaming. Yes, it is used in place of Media Player in some places. If you go to KFMB and some of the other sites - you will see where it used to have icons for Real Player, Quick Time, Windows Media Player - they now show Adobe Flash and Microsoft's Silverlight. When it first came out it was a painful experience. They appear to have improved it as I used it to listen to Computer Talk on KFMB and again with KOGO. Rush has High definition webcam now and he uses flash. I am wary with Flash as Adobe is too slow to patch vulnerabilities and their Flash left us open to some hefty hacks for too long. So ... nikki in a nutshel - it would have been ok to update it. In fact it would have enhanced your video streaming experience. Not an issue that you uninstalled it at this point in time although down the road the technology will force you into either Flash, Silverlight or one of their competitors. If you ever have questions - and you don't get a quick response here... email me. I have had to change my email address so I am going to use an old fall back on this profile.

Thanks, Dolphie, for your expertise. As a not-so-savvy computer user, I am always leerie when I get something like that. The notice would not let me make a move even though I kept telling it no, cancel, restarting, and on an on without an explanation other than it would "enhance my experience." There is a damn good joke in there, but with what's been going on here since yesterday, I'll keep my mouth shut ....................

You are one of the reasons I am still around posting. I LOVE your wit and humor! You are smart in not saying yes to everything that wants to install itself. I commend you on taking the more conservative approach and remaining safe rather that saying yes to everything and winding up infected.
