Irish Mike, I think dolphie is on to something. You are behind the times my friend, effective today Microsoft has made a lot of back end changes some older technology was retired. My recommendation would be take the quick fix and when the next version of Windows is released BUY IT.
BTW, I’ve been FireFox user before its inception, it is by far the superior browser.

BTW, I’ve been FireFox user before its inception, it is by far the superior browser. Wow! I can disagree with you! *GRIN* FInally! You are so agreeable it is difficult to find something to debate you. I do not like FireFox. It has the nearly the same effect that AOL does - it allows people to be lulled into a false sense of security. I have had to clean up too many sites where people _assume_ that since they have FireFox they are safe to surf whereEver they want and do whatever they want. I still find conflicts with FireFox (many applications do not play nice with FireFox at installation. Eg: some accounting proprietary applications) IE is not perfect - but it is getting better. It is faster at remedying vulnerabilitys and MS is better about being transparent when there is a vulnerability. (granted - that did not occur prior to MS almost losing majority marketshare to Mozilla and they most certainly underestimated the internet culture) I am probably one of the few geeks that does not buy into mozilla as a godsend/perfect browser. AND although I prefer Windows to a Mac - I am not a MS fanboy either. I have had my tussles with them. Yet as a business person - I see various perspectives.

If I was given one wish, it would be to have been born 40 years earlier, and I could have gone to my grave without ever having to touch a computer.

IrishMike - do you have the yahoo toolbar loaded on your FireFox? If you do, uninstall it via Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel. Make sure Firefox is closed when you remove the Yahoo toolbar. It would not hurt to reboot your system after removing the yahoo toolbar. If you need the Yahoo toolbar... wait until we make sure that this fixes the issue... then we can get into downloading the new one. support.mozilla.com/tiki-view_forum_thread.php?locale=en-US&comments_parentId=387849&forumId=1

I'm not a leftist I Wub my Macbook Pro and iPhone. Darwin Rocks! Now, that isn't saying I am exclusive. My desktop has Vista on it and I have Windows 7 ordered. My other desktop runs Centos 5.3 and is a VM Server running Windows 2k3 and Slackware. My other laptop has Vista as well. My other two laptops have Fedora. My server is also CentOS 5.3. My Mac doesn't get viruses!!!!!! If it does, it can't do a whole lot Unix permissions ftw.

End User is important in the given scenarios. Let's just call you what you are! A curiousity driven technogeek! We need to bring Turk out of the doghouse and get him to posting over here. He and you will have much to chatter about. He is on your wavelength. I am the rebel in the lot. I am not a pro-MSer yet I am not a jump on the FireFox/linux bandwagon because it is geekish cool techie either. I will play with IE vs FireFox and stay with Windows vs Linux or the dreaded ucky Mac. I do enjoy rattling chains.

I dunno, I like to be able to use my perl scripts that I wrote for Linux related things and be able to just copy it to my mac and do the same thing. Mac is really just Unix with a shiny GUI (Much better than X of course as it isn't server/client based making it slow). Now, as far as hardware, I'd prefer to not use mac. I like the OS.

Mac is really just Unix with a shiny GUI (Much better than X of course as it isn't server/client based making it slow). Now, as far as hardware, I'd prefer to not use mac. I like the OS. It is that superficial GUI that is irritating. If it allowed for command level as readily as XP does - it might be passable. It is too visual and not sufficiently logical in its menu system. (then again the same could be said about Vista and the current MS office suites) Hardware wise - I am very much not impressed. I do not like that they are proprietary with peripherals. I love the PC environment as they keep the door open for brilliant entrepreneurs. If we just had Macs - we would not have enjoyed the advances the video card battle between nVidia and ATI (and prior to that but most will recognize these two) has brought to us. We would not have the motherboards that we have - once again, due to the dueling motherboards. We would not have the CPUs we have - AMD vs Intel and now vs nVidia ... We would not have the sound cards, etc. We would not have the lower priced PCs, Laptops, etc. To me - although the Mac is user friendly for the novice who is not a left brained person - it squelches competition by placing a strong strangling hold on the manufacturer of its components. It also keeps the prices up. I grumble about Windows as well. I am an old time DOS (for PCs) over Windows person. Although I appreciate that Gates took a concept to market and created the Windows lineage - I also remember the issues those additional layers caused. I remember the days when Microsoft played dirty with WordPerfect, Quattro Pro, etc. I still do not especially like Office word - although WordPerfect has not kept up with the times and it lost some of its key features.
