Yes, I lived in the lake effect area of the North Shore, but Coleman never got it right. I lived three doors from Harry Volkman. You remember him and he would always talk about what a crazy person Coleman was. PJ Hoff, used to draw cartoons when I was very young. Today on WGN they have the best weather person in the nation Tom Skilling. Coleman has ALWAYS let his conservative and Republican bias cloud his judgment. VOR, You brought back some memories when you mentioned PJ Hoff and the cartoons. I also got some Illinois memories when I watched "Hoosiers" the other night. They could have filmed some of the basketball scenes in the old gym at the Junior High School I attended. The entire interior of the barber shop I went to as a kid in Naperville was bought by the Smithsonian, disassembled, shipped to the museum to be used as an early Americana historical exhibit.

CM,
I think you have solved the problem. Stem cells for polar bears. We make a stem cell that shrinks their sizes down to something the size of a dog. We adopt them as pets. That way they will not starve to death. Maybe Coleman should tell them the global warming thing is a hoax. He should probably start trying to find them sooner rather than later.

Larry, When you brought the polar bear controversy into the discussion I suddenly felt sorry that I ever offered up the thread. I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop when you find a way to drag Bush, Cheney, Scooter Libbey, Karl Rove, the World Bank and the IMF into the mix.

I understood John Coleman to be a broadcaster who reports the weather.I don't believe he's a meteorologist. His involvement in founding the Weather Channel was as a broadcaster, not a meteorologist. The weather at any given moment makes no difference whatsoever. It is the TREND over a period of time, such as the average temperature.Anyone can see from the pictures of the Arctic glaciers taken 20 or 30 years apart the the ice cap is shrinking rapidly.San Diego was warm today, does that prove that there is global warming?NO.The reverse is also true.If it's 39 in Chicago in August does that prove that global warning doesn't exist.NO. Use reasoning power, don't just parrot what a talk show host or a faux weatherman says

Jack, perhaps the best posts on this thread came from VOR, discrediting Coleman and his Global Warming stance. Like many topics they wander, but to inject stem cells and polar bears, like I said before, you need a mighty big shoe horn to make that fit. Global warming true or false is not a winnable argument, you believe the group of experts you choose. Some of the same experts and the global community that believe in global warming are the same experts that believed an ice age was eminent in 1978. In 2010 experts are predicting solar storms significant enough that will temporarily or permanently wipe out half the world’s electric and communication. Wonder if that will be Bush’s fault.

CM, until now.....everything had been Clinton's fault, so its good to have a new aftermarket scapegoat.

Jack,
I had been trying to work out that pesky unified field theory that plagued einstein for so long, but actually I believe I have stumbled upon a new six degrees of seperation game. Every single catastrophic event can be connected to Bush/Cheney in only six steps. I am planning to market it as a board game but we cannot decide whether Bush or Cheney should have the bigger picture on the box.

The picture speaks for itself, I leave it to the reader to figure out who are the alarmists.
