On Wednesday afternoon, on the way to Palm Springs, I got an opportunity to try one of Turks recommendations, Nessy's. Although it was traffic hour, the line was not to bad. My wife and I each tried a Nessy Burger and shared an order of fries. I have to admit it was one of the best burgers I have had. Well cooked, yet juicy with all the trimmings. The burger is good sized and should take care of all but the most demanding appetities! This is the way a burger should be, just right and nothing left! My wife is not fond of hamburgers but does enjoy eating one once in a while. She enjoyed hers very much (musperson held) and astonishingly finished it. Her appetite is not very big. The french fries were also cooked to perfection and served without salt (without requesting) which I prefer. While many use ketp on fries, these were fine without. Although I did dip a couple in musperson, my favorite method. We will return there! Well recommended!

I like my fries with mayonnaise something I picked up living in Holland. Glad you liked Nessy, but there is one better, the Mono Cone (north end of town on the east) in Lee Vinning, ask for grilled onions, about an hour north of Mammoth or 20 minutes south of Bridgeport. Like everything in the area they button up for the winter but if you are around March-October it is worth the stop.

I love mayonaise but avoid it on most foods. Exceptions are in a macaroni or potato salad, then it is low fat. I had them withold the mayo on my burger. It is one of the few things I give up to help control my cholesteral and weight and it has been working. I love musperson and it doesn't have the helath harming ingredients of mayo or catsup. The doctor said I can have all the veggies and musperson I want! I find that with the quality of the food at Nessy's, foods are seldom are "better" but are more "comparable". Usually the difference is found in the atmosphere of the establishment or its service. In regard to stmosphere, I am easy to please. I am not demanding in service but recognize exceptional service. My mother was a cook and a waitress in several "country" restaurants and was extremely well liked. I have noted your recommendation though and will likely give it a try if I find myself up in that direction. It has been quite some time since I have traveled 395 in that area. I have been in Lee Vining and if I recall correctly it is very much a "country style" small town (touristy like). We did stop to eat there, lunch I believe, after staying in Yosemite and enroute to Carson, Nev. Unfortunately, I don't recall the name of the establishment that we ate in.

Most tourist in Lee Vinning eat at Nicely’s or the Mobile Gas station south of town, the Mono Cone is the last stop on the north end of town just east of the main road and next to the high school. It is a hole in the wall just like Nessy’s but it is better. However at the Mono Cone it depends on the cook, you’ll want to tell the lady (tattoos, long hair, weathered look but attractive and about 55 years old) that takes your order to watch over your burger and it will come out perfect, get it with grilled onions, they use large eastern sierra red onions.
I don’t eat mayonnaise anymore but if I could it would be with my fries (which I rarely eat either.) I have made my own with grape seed oil and lemon grass, it come out pretty darn good.
Only 2-4 times per month I have red meat, its shrimp, salmon, scallops for me and a huge pile of veggies. Today I cleaned and pack 24 half pond baggies of corn to freeze, I'll do another 24 on Monday and that will last until spring.
