Bruce, aside from their personal views and affiliations, are Tanton and Beck right about bringing to light the serious problems about illegal aliens? Simple question. If an ugly goose brought you a golden egg, you still have a golden egg in your hands.
Have you ever owned a Volkswagon Beetle? I had a van. Marvelous cars. Guess who was instrumental in their development and factory capitalization. Aside from Hitler's involvement, it was a fine car.

My whole problem with the anti-illegal movement is that it was formed by people who if they didn't have illegals as their target, would be targeting me. There mere presence of these people in leadership positions gives one pause. Even Chris Simcox, has expressed reservations about the level of those "volunteering" to patrol the border, many of whom he described as "scary". I have stated numerous times that I don't support illegal immigration but I think the solution is enforcing the laws we now have, and lay off demonizing the unfortunate people who are here, the majority, to support their families. They are not the villians. The wildly exaggerated claims of their crime rate does nothing to solve the problem. Semi-racists like Tom Tancredo are not helpful either. Being anti illegal immigration is one thing; being anti-illegal alien is another.

Yes, I had a VW, in fact several, back in the 70's. Great car. I could do repairs myself, and change a headlight in 30 seconds. Try that today. I know the "people's car" was Hitler's idea, but Hitler's been dead for 65 years and the connection between VW and him is now most remote. The jerks are still active in the anti-immigrant movement and their motives are very suspect.

Bruce, I won't say that there aren't some bigoted kooks in the various groups. They do tend to be shunned by the majority of activists.
But, some of the same people you speak of welcomed the family of Jamiel Shaw Jr and Monica Ramos and her children at a very large function less than one mile from the border on a hot Fourth of July. They were a part of the festivities. They were one of us. So was Ted Hayes. Not as tokens, but, as participants in something that has to be done: keeping light on a problem that seems like the 800 Lb gorilla in the room.
I know where you are coming from. It is easy for me to respect that.
More later. We're having dinner guests!

Is that just the tag you put on anyone you don't agree with? There's no difference between being against crime and against criminals. Should we just concentrate on stopping crime from happening and forget all about the ones who have already committed a crime? You also need to stop the guilt by association stuff - it's getting old.

You all sure tried to smear the president with guilt by association. These characters were an integral part of the formation of the anti-illegal movement. A semi-racist is one who doesn't come right out and say he is a racist, and is careful not to say anything overtly racist, but communicates to his minions what he really means. Like politicians who refer to welfare queens driving Cadillacs with big screen TV's in their housing project living room. We all know who they mean.

You all are the ones calling Sonia Sotomayor a racist. Bogus as a $3 bill.

I love seeing you all destroy yourselves; "semi-racist plus", pretty clever but the more you put out these outrageous slurs, the stronger our side gets. Justice Sotomayor, what a great victory over the bigots!

The confirmation hearings begin July 13, as the President requested. The Repuiblicans are howling and whining about not enough time to read all of her decisions. Yeah, like they are really going to read them. Justice Alito was confirmed in less time than is being devoted to Sonia Sotomayor. I have also heard some of her decisions are considered "conservative". In any event, she'll be easily confirmed and ready to go when the next session of the SCOTUS starts in September.

I suppose that I am now anti-immigrant.
Splitting the difference between $4 Billion and $5 Billion, I get $4.5 Billion. $4.5 Billion is 18.5% of the budget deficit. Austria isn't known for turning out mathamatic idiots. Yet, California's governor is just as such. Not significant???
When you total the amount of state money spent on aid to illegals for decades, none or little of which paid back, the accrued waste probably is far greater than our current deficit.
I'll be "happy" when when the son of a bitch is terminated.
