So there is some backlash going on in Tijuana over the "Terror Van" (Which I called it as a joke, but Hannity says it seriously!). It looks like Mexican Deplorables (You didn't know there were Mexican fascists? Where have you been?) are demonstrating against the asylum seekers and sometimes attacking them. This is getting to be more fun every day! And it's been the headlines in our local rag for four days out of the last five. My question is, will the Mickey Mouse American media ever call it what it is? Not likely. Hear no Class War, see no Class War, speak no Class War.

www.nytimes.com/2018/11/25/world/americas/tijuana-mexico-border.html?action=click&module=Top%20Stories&pgtype=Homepage"TIJUANA, Mexico — A peaceful march by Central American migrants waiting at the southwestern United States border veered out of control on Sunday afternoon, as hundreds of people tried to evade a Mexican police blockade and run toward a giant border crossing that leads into San Diego. In response, the United States Customs and Border Protection agency shut down the border crossing in both directions and fired tear gas to push back migrants from the border fence. The border was reopened later Sunday evening. The episode comes at a time of growing tension on both sides of the border and promised to become the newest flash point in the story of a caravan that was the target of President Trump’s anti-immigrant rallying cry during the midterm elections. Mr. Trump has made preventing caravan members from entering into the United States a signature stance of his administration over the past few weeks and has sent American soldiers to the border, although the United States military was not involved in Sunday’s clash. The images of unrest Sunday will likely provide him with additional ammunition as he tries to keep out the caravan members and other immigrants and refugees fleeing poverty and violence in their homelands." Oh, this is fun. Our Fearless Leader is making a stand at the border against hordes of poor brown families. Not that it helped him in the midterms but maybe it will help him in 2020. And to add to the fun, Obrador takes over in December. Will he kiss Trump's ass like Nieto? Oh, probably.

www.nytimes.com/2018/11/26/world/americas/mexico-lopez-obrador-migrants.html?action=click&module=Well&pgtype=Homepage§ion=World"MEXICO CITY — The new president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has built his entire political career on defending the poor. Now, days before Mr. López Obrador takes office, President Trump is testing how firmly he will live up to that. Thousands of migrants from Central America have massed along the border of Mexico and the United States — with thousands more on the way. American border patrol agents fired tear gas at them on Sunday to prevent hundreds from reaching the border. Mr. Trump has vowed to keep the migrants on Mexican soil while they apply for asylum in the United States, a process that could squeeze them into squalid, overcrowded shelters for months, possibly even years. Mexican officials say the strain is already causing a humanitarian emergency, creating a political crisis for Mr. López Obrador even before he takes office." This will be awesome to see how Obrador, allegedly a leftist, handles this class war at the border, with Homeland Security thugs shooting tear gas into Mexico. My suspicion is that Mexico will choose business as usual over human rights and Obrador will bend over for the American bully-in-chief.

www.nytimes.com/2018/12/18/us/politics/government-shutdown-trump.html?action=click&module=Top%20Stories&pgtype=HomepageWASHINGTON — The White House signaled on Tuesday that President Trump may be backing down on his demand for $5 billion from Congress for a wall on the border with Mexico, easing fears of a Christmas government shutdown that would begin at midnight Friday. Sarah Sanders, the White House press secretary, said on Fox News there were other ways to secure his demand and deliver on a signature campaign promise — one that Mr. Trump previously said was willing to shut down the government over. She said the administration has a “number of different funding sources we could use” to reach $5 billion, suggesting that the money could be found for border security in the spending bills still pending in Congress. But she also conceded that the administration could settle for the highest number offered by congressional Democrats — $1.6 billion — in a Homeland Security spending bill that already contains about $26 billion in all for border security. “That’s something that we would be able to support,” Ms. Sanders said, “as long as we can couple that with other funding resources that would help us get to the $5 billion.” She added: “At the end of the day, we don’t want to shut down the government, we want to shut down the border.” There you have it. But I'm sure they will backtrack on that comment, saying she didn't mean what she said, she meant something else.

www.nytimes.com/2019/02/16/us/border-migrants-asylum-mexico-aclu.html?action=click&module=Top%20Stories&pgtype=Homepage"TIJUANA, Mexico — Pushed beyond their limits by prolonged waits in dangerous and squalid conditions in parts of Northern Mexico, thousands of caravan members who had been waiting to seek asylum in the United States appear to have given up, Mexican officials said, dealing President Trump an apparent win after a humbling week for his immigration agenda. About 6,000 asylum seekers who had traveled en masse, many of them in defiance of Mr. Trump’s demands that they turn around, arrived in Northern Mexico in late November as part of a caravan that originated in Honduras. Since then, more than 1,000 have accepted an offer to be returned home by the Mexican government, the officials said. Another 1,000 have decided to stay in Mexico, accepting work permits that were offered to them last fall, at the height of international consternation over how to deal with the growing presence of migrant caravans." Is this a "win"? I guess it's how you define "win". But this isn't over yet, not by a long shot.

www.thecut.com/2019/03/kirstjen-nielsen-testimony-about-the-border-was-embarrassing.html"Department of Homeland Security secretary Kirstjen Nielsen testified in front of Congress on Wednesday, answering for her execution of the Trump administration’s widely criticized immigration policies. The committee questioned Nielsen on Trump’s family separation policies, reports of abuse in immigration detention facilities, and reports that children were possibly being permanently separated from parents who were being deported. Nielsen’s responses seemed to indicate that the secretary was either not aware of the severity of the treatment of migrants in the United States — particularly children — or she was intentionally giving misleading answers to obfuscate the endless reports of abuse against Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Patrol." Ha-ha! Trump's loser Gen X DHS chief gets grilled! But frankly I am still surprised that immigration has become such a big deal not only here but in Europe too. I shouldn't be. Immigration has been an issue forever all across the globe, including the involuntary "immigration" of Africans to the Americas. And historically lots of people have wanted to live behind walls to keep unpleasant outsiders out, but it has rarely worked well.

In what must be a blow to the sadists who installed concertina wire on the top of our border fence here in San Diego, Mexican entrepreneurs are stealing it for resale to security-conscious rich Mexicans! Makes me laugh. Which reminds me. If Libertarians want to live what they preach, they should move to Mexico where they have many laws but no one pays attention to them.

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/apr/05/trump-border-us-immigration-calexico"Donald Trump once again insisted the US immigration system was overburdened and illegal border crossings must be stopped on a visit to the US-Mexico border in California. Trump traveled to Calexico, California, on Friday to view a section of the border barrier and participate in a roundtable on immigration. “There is indeed an emergency on our southern border,” Trump said at the briefing, adding that there had been a sharp uptick in illegal crossings. “It’s a colossal surge, and it’s overwhelming our immigration system. We can’t take you anymore. Our country is full.” And Trump is full of it.

www.nytimes.com/2019/05/10/us/texas-border-good-samaritan.html?action=click&module=Well&pgtype=Homepage§ion=US"MCALLEN, Tex. — Teresa L. Todd pulled over one recent night on a dark West Texas highway to help three young Central American migrants who had flagged her down. Ms. Todd — an elected official, government lawyer and single mother in a desert border region near Big Bend National Park — said she went into “total mom mode” when she saw the three siblings, one of whom appeared to be very ill. Struggling to communicate using her broken Spanish, Ms. Todd told the three young people to get out of the cold and into her car. She was phoning and texting friends for help when a sheriff’s deputy drove up, followed soon by the Border Patrol. “They asked me to step behind my car, and the supervisor came and started Mirandizing me,” said Ms. Todd, referring to being read her Miranda rights. “And then he says that I could be found guilty of transporting illegal aliens, and I’m, like, ‘What are you talking about?” Ms. Todd spent 45 minutes in a holding cell that night. Federal agents obtained a search warrant to examine her phone, and she became the focus of an investigation that could lead to federal criminal charges." Now THIS is a Republican wet dream: Outlawing humanitarianism.

www.nytimes.com/2019/06/25/us/father-daughter-border-drowning-picture-mexico.html?action=click&module=Well&pgtype=Homepage§ion=USAs of Monday, the Mexican government had deployed more than 20,000 security forces to the southern and northern borders to try to impede the passage of undocumented migrants toward the United States, officials said. But human rights experts, immigrants’ advocates and security analysts warned that the mobilization could drive migrants to resort to more dangerous routes in their effort to reach the United States. For all the hard-line policies, hundreds of thousands of migrants continue to embark on the dangerous journey to the United States from Central America and elsewhere. But for every migrant who chooses to take the journey, whether on foot, packed into shipping containers or on the top of trains, the fear of what lies behind outweighs that which lies ahead."
Two more victims of the class war on the border. Yet lots of Hispanics voted for Trump, so why should I care? And Mexico is dancing to Trump's tune too.

www.nytimes.com/2019/06/30/us/politics/left-moderate-democrats.html?action=click&module=Well&pgtype=Homepage§ion=Politics“The question was, would you rather just obstruct and delay, as some wanted to, or were we going to get humanitarian aid to children at the border right now?” said Representative Josh Gottheimer, Democrat of New Jersey and the co-chairman of the Problem Solvers Caucus, a group of 23 Republicans and 23 Democrats that presses for bipartisan compromises. The group met on Wednesday and discussed the mounting anxiety many of them had about going home for a July 4 recess having failed to pass the border bill. After taking a vote, members decided to issue a news release calling for the House to pass the Senate bill, effectively surrendering a politically risky fight over immigration so the aid could go through. “There was a very significant and real concern that we wouldn’t act at all and leave town with no immediate humanitarian aid for children at the border,” Mr. Gottheimer said. “That was unacceptable.” The result was a bitter pill for liberals who had insisted they could not vote for the aid package without tough new restrictions and higher standards for facilities that hold migrant children." So the "Problem Solver Caucus" gave a big win to Mitch McConnell. Well, hell, a pox on both their houses.

www.nytimes.com/2019/07/11/us/politics/ice-families-deport.html?action=click&module=Top%20Stories&pgtype=Homepage"Nationwide raids to arrest thousands of members of undocumented families have been scheduled to begin Sunday, according to two current and one former homeland security officials, moving forward with a rapidly changing operation, the final details of which remain in flux. The operation, backed by President Trump, had been postponed, partly because of resistance among officials at his own immigration agency. The raids, which will be conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement over multiple days, will include “collateral” deportations, according to the officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the preliminary stage of the operation. In those deportations, the authorities might detain immigrants who happened to be on the scene, even though they were not targets of the raids." I believe history will consider these pogroms against the undocumented to be the real criminal acts. Good thing for these ICE thugs that the Hispanic community is so meek. Even the Jews in the Warsaw ghetto eventually rose up after 400,000 of them (out of 500,000) meekly went to the ovens.

www.nytimes.com/2019/08/12/us/politics/trump-immigration-policy.html?searchResultPosition=1"WASHINGTON — President Trump on Monday broadened his assault on the nation’s immigration system, issuing a new rule targeting legal immigrants who want to remain in the United States but whose lack of financial resources is judged likely to make them a burden on taxpayers. The new regulation is aimed at hundreds of thousands of immigrants who enter the country legally every year and then apply to become permanent residents. Starting in October, the government’s decision will be based on an aggressive wealth test to determine whether those immigrants have the means to support themselves. Poor immigrants will be denied permanent legal status, also known as a green card, if they are deemed likely to use government benefit programs such as food stamps and subsidized housing. Wealthier immigrants, who are designated as less likely to require public assistance, will be able to obtain a green card." What chaps my hide is not Trump doing this, but that President Biden would probably not reverse it. As I've said before, you can trust a rightie do the wrong thing, but you can't trust a lib to do the right. And as I've also said before, borders are only for the poor.
