For obvious reasons I don't want to put drought news in the "Move to California" thread. But I thought we might be able to find some interesting things to talk about related to our lack of water. Or not.

www.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/apr/13/jerry-brown-california-drought-water-conservation-/"For California Gov. Jerry Brown to crack down on shower-taking and toilet-flushing to save precious quarts of water as millions of gallons flow into the Pacific Ocean doesn’t make a lot of sense to Travis Allen. The Republican Assembly member from Orange County is among those decrying the specter of dead lawns, dirty cars and neighborhood water watches as California braces for its first mandatory water reductions on urban consumption, which accounts for about 10 percent of the state’s usage. “For the governor to come out and say, ‘Look, we all have to now take shorter showers and kill our front lawns and stop washing our cars,’ that is not the answer,” Mr. Allen said. “Forty percent of our water is going into the Pacific Ocean. The answer is, let’s stop sending that water into the Pacific, and let’s send it into our cities, into our homes.” For those of you from out of state, Orange County is ground zero for wealthy white suburbanites. Or was, as lots of Asians are now moving there, thank God. But really, we are going to dry out the Sacramento River delta and kill all the wildlife just so Southern California doesn't have dirty cars? Works for me! Not that I EVER wash my car, it always seemed like a waste of time and water. And lawns? Are we living in Scotland? This is the desert, fer Christsakes. If you don't like the desert, stay in Des Moines.

I’m building a new home and in all seriousness I checked out composting toilets. The first thing I got hit with was sticker shock, nearly 10 times the price as medium to high end traditional toilet. So I thought what the hell, the master bath toilet will get used the most so I spend the extra bucks. I’m on septic and well water. My waste doesn’t pollute but each flush does tap the aquifer. I found a toilet model that looked half decent with minimal maintenance so I put it on the plans. Building plans have to be approved by the county. The county and/or state requires testing and reports for non-traditional construction. Since I’m building an ICF home it is very non-traditional. Surprise, surprise, surprise there is not a composting toilet that meets the July 1, 2014 code in California but meets code in 49 other states and every country in the world that have codes. It is about money not conservation. California wants to collect the fee for producing a report that meets code. I tried to do my part but this screwed up state doesn’t care. Brown is full of crap and he can't even compost it.

This state is hell-bend on wasting money for illegals. Instead let’s give incentives to those that conserve water. Water bills have history, if a person can reduce their usage by “x” then reward them. If someone uses shower water to care for their lawn, reward them. Passing more stupid laws is just plain stupid. First, you need people to enforce stupid laws. More money spent. Tax credit, rewards and incentives will save water. Brown is so named brown for a reason.

Insulated concrete form. I'm building a Leed Platinum home. Google it, there's tons of good info. See, there are people that don't have left-sided nose ring implants that care.

Yeah, but a left-sided nose ring implant might look good on you.
