After a difficult day I decided to treat myself to just a wonderful bottle of wine. A deep nose with hints of blood orange, licorice and a little pepper action. In the mouth it is rich and creamy with juniper, pepper, sweet black fruit, blueberry, blackberry, a little smoke and leather, finishing with exotic spices. You would never know by tasting it is 15.7% alcohol, after finishing the bottle I knew. Yup, that's my hand

Edna Valley produces a number of really good wines. This summer I brought back a case of a no-oak Chardonnay that is a really good hot weather wine. I still think the Stags Leap Cabernet is as good as Napa gets, but I will be trying a bottle of that Reva. This has been a long year and I could probably save some time with a wine that was 15% alcohol.

Speaking of smoke and leather: Once a quarter my law enforcement friends join me at the farm for scotch tasting, everyone brings there favorite bottle(s) and we always have something new. One of the many favorites is Laphoroaig, big earthy, smoke and leather with a hint of almond. The 10 year old is reasonable priced around $40 but I prefer the 30 year old a bit pricey but one bottle will last me a year. No one gets too shit-faced but other than killing someone on the way home all of us would get a pass.
