I Am Curious,
The Supreme Court Of The United States was unable to define obscenity although they knew what it was when they saw it. I will be the first to admit that it is easier for me to decide when someone is being offensive to me than it is for me to decide when I have been offensive (although handcuffed in the back of a squad car is typically a dead giveaway).
How much moderation does the typical reader and poster expect. Certainly we would not ban someone or even delete their post simply because they called us an idiot, but I would expect that we would draw a line somewhere on this side of hate speech or vulgarity. It would be helpful to CM, Jack and myself if we had an idea of what people might expect from us. Honestly I think there is an unspoken consensus working here that probably is the most effective way to maintain an environment we all appreciate. I think CM has been thoughtful to the extreme about how to do this. You can disagree on a specific but it would be hard to argue that there is an obvious bias or agenda.

I’m outta here, I’m guilty, I’ve committed the unpardonable, if you read the TOS for SD Scene, “inaccuracies” are high crimes and forbidden. Is there anyone among us that has not made an error?
Obviously the TOS is CYA, carefulness, caution, discretion, forethought and just plain good ole common sense is required and exercised.
The posts that will be evaluated as objective rather than subjective: Use of the “F” bomb, the “N’ word, it is possible to use the “N” word in a historical perspective, however moderators do not want to be in the position to evaluate content, unless objection, I propose the word is unacceptable in any context.
Posting images of nudity, I do not believe in any form of censorship, perhaps to the extreme, however it matters not what my/our personal believes are our board answers to a higher calling. We need to draw a line in the sand to eliminate interpretations and just say no.
Posts that fall in the above are subject to immediate removal. That gives us tremendous leeway and freedom to make our points. If you object, speak up.
As Larry said the unspoken consensus speaks volumes and our ability to express, tolerate, and self police has made our board a salubrious environment.
Sure we may push buttons, but that is life and so is this board. Like the Supreme Court observed, when the line is crossed, all that see, will know it, even if we can not quantify it.
