www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-oil-20140521-story.html"Federal energy authorities have slashed by 96% the estimated amount of recoverable oil buried in California's vast Monterey Shale deposits, deflating its potential as a national "black gold mine" of petroleum. Just 600 million barrels of oil can be extracted with existing technology, far below the 13.7 billion barrels once thought recoverable from the jumbled layers of subterranean rock spread across much of Central California, the U.S. Energy Information Administration said. The new estimate, expected to be released publicly next month, is a blow to the nation's oil future and to projections that an oil boom would bring as many as 2.8 million new jobs to California and boost tax revenue by $24.6 billion annually." Awwww, too bad. We don't get an oil "boom". And I so looked forward to Central California becoming a petroleum wasteland...

There is a difference, of course, between the cost of energy and the price of energy.

Oil spill in Huntington Beach. How many people care? This is the price of the right’s beloved “Energy Independence”. I guess no one was interested in Dredd’s “Use up the eorld’s oil before we use ours” scheme. Maybe it is just a balance of payments thing. The easiest solution to energy problems: Drive less.

Decided to rename this energy thread after that famous phrase, one that that clown Trump still uses in his speeches. Not that the whole subject isn’t boring, either you are a consevationst or you aren’t. How much you want to bet most of the immigrants “invading” the U.S. aren’t? I bet most are religious.
