'Nuff said. You wish...., If you add in the entitlements (promises of payments we have already legislated) the amount is over a hundred and fifty thousand each. I share that number with my students and actually make them borrow the money and pay it back with interest. It takes them about five minutes to catch their breath and to blink again, but once they get the math my message about making sure they get an education carries a little more weight. I say we invest heavily in education and then tax the you know what out of them. Your last sentence was absolutely brilliant!!! Did you get your grant?

The team and I are still writing it. For that kind of money you have to provide so much detail. I am remaining optimistic but this is the kind of grant you probably do not get the first time you apply for it. What is most interesting is that the team wants to go ahead with the project whether we get the money or not.

I wrote a big one and didn't get it (shucks!); but, I re-wrote for less money 25K and got that. You and your team might consider that or private fund-raising. I have a friend who teaches at Valhalla and they did a private fund-raiser to buy a cataloging program for their school library. Good luck and my fingers are crossed for you and your team! I know this sounds awful; but, administrators take advantage of faculty willing to go above and beyond and that sounds like you and your team!

I have received about twenty grand over the last three years but those were all grants that I administered myself. Working with a team is different. But a shared purpose and vision is hard to create and the group I am working with seem to have it. Honestly that is what I am looking for even more than the equipment. But it has been my experience that a good plan will attract money eventually and I think we have a good plan.
I have already implemented about a third of the program and it is everything I had hoped for. My current students are the right combination of risk takers and collaborators. They seem to like the experimentation. Teachers always seem afraid to put themselves in a position where they do not have all the answers, but this year has been so much fun just because the students and I have become co-conspirators. They also like the idea of being part of what may be a legacy. I think I like the idea that I get to relive the excitement of being a "new" teacher.

Larry, I have little doubt that you will be successful! When you describe the progress you make with your students and the methods involved over the years, it is very clear why you are successful. The other teachers are afraid to go where you do because they lack the "experience" of working outside of their teaching or the fast food places while getting their education. Your industrial experience and your knowledge and use of "quality management" programs puts you well ahead of them. It also empowers you with the tools to show your students how to systematically approach your given goals with proven methods. Something most teachers only know of through reading, you have experienced it! If you are not successful it will be because the management lacks the understanding of what you are doing and fears it's outcome. Although when you are talking money, they may be willing to take the risk! ;D I wish you much success!

Larry: In my opinion there will be no need to "tax the hell" out of those young people to pay back our debts, and the reason is those students themselves. Somewhere among them is someone with the seeds of a brilliant plan to get us out of ever having to pay that money back. Something far more elegant than the crude and painful method of just letting the value of the dollar drop to nothing, which is what the Chinese are worried about. As the Bible says, debt is slavery, and people have been adept at escaping slavery since the beginning of mankind. Who says I'm not an optimist?

Oh by the way, the title of this thread is an insult to witches. Leave it the current republican party and the Bushy neocons to insult witches by being compared to them !!! I love it... Imagine what a witch would say if we compared them to Ann Coulter? I couldnt do that to the poor witches of America

Larry,I certainly hope you are successful in your grant seeking. My sister wrote grant proposals for the city of San Diego for over 20 years and I know the hoops she was put through. My brother in law who works for the Sweetwater school district wrote one once and almost had a nervous breakdown and never did one again. Jack Oliver, come on more often,I frequently feel like I'm drowning in a sea of conservatives!

thank you Bruce...I'll try,,,it just gets boring for me going up against some of the talk radio talking points by the Rush/ GOP followers ...I know most here are not like that. I must say it is good to see both sides at least dialoging about ideas,,and not attacking mindlessly....I should know. But it still sadens me to see some few still echo what was on talk radio the day before, just like clock work.. Good luck Bruce...thank god most of America shares our points of view and thank God we have taken America back from the GOP smear machine. Good luck to all in their grants... do republicans ask for government grants as well,,,? If they do they are being hypocritical by asking for government HAND OUTS...They should ask the private sector, right? Isnt that were they put their faith? the can go ask Enron for some grant money.. Good luck again Bruce....Isnt funny seeing and hearing all these republicans buying more guns? CAN ANYONE SAY WACKO? AS IN WACKO TEXAS? Jesus never needed a gun....so he must not have been a republican. HEY WHAT HAPPEND TO VOR? DID CM REVEAL HIS IP TO THE FEDS AND HAD HIM ARRESTED FOR BEING A LIBERAL? ;D

For the record Bush is not president anymore, live in the present and move on, that is a catchy term “moveon.org” Jesus did not own a gun but if he did it would be the one that fits snugly in my back pocket. www.kimberamerica.com/pistols/ultracarry/ultra_carry_II/Bang!!!!!
