With the death of Shareen Littlefeather, the Native American activist who turned down Marlon Brando’s Oscar for him, it was mentioned in the NYT that John Wayne was so pissed at her he had to be restrained. I’d add John Wayne to this list of famous old time commie hunters but the title would be too long. Now, several generations later we have a new bunch of self-proclaimed Commie hunters. Maybe I’m being nostalgic, but none of them seem to have the gravitas as these old timers. And I’m not sure the Commie smear will stick this time. Even MLK was considered a Commie by many back then. Mostly from the South I would imagine.

Just bought a book by Norman Thomas, famous Socialist of the same generation as the subjects of this thread. He was also a pacifist, something rather extinct now. Was Jesus a pacifist? Depends who you talk to.

I’ve started a book about Norman Thomas, famous American Socialist at one time and in the same generation as anti-communists Hoover, Lemay, Luce, and Spellman. I would bet things don’t end well for Thomas, who died in 1968. They were the generation that proceeded the Greatest Generation. I wonder if they have a name?

Another member of this generation was Ho Chi Minh, born 1890. Nixon was one of the “Greatest Generation”, born in 1913. Two years younger than Reagan. Nixon was a vet. Reagan, of course, was an actor. Biden was…Biden.

Dropped in on the St.Patrick’s Day Parade in NYC just in time to see the Cardinal Spellman High School band march by. Mostly Africa-American! And some Asians-Americans. DEI rocks! FU DeSantis!
