Lots of people call what America has now a “Meritocracy”. Is it? Considering the qualities of those who “rise to the top” I’m not at all sure. Am I just a sore loser? Perhaps.

Exhibit #1 for the non-existence of the American Meritocracy: The 2016 Presidential election.

Here’s one for Turk: Do we really have a Meritocracy when a guy like Obama can become President? Maybe what we really have is a Conocracy.

It makes me laugh to think that.our so-called Meritocracy put into power no doubt college-educated geniuses who thaoght it was a good idea to invade Afghanistan. Not to mention a servile Boomer press that went along with it. And so-called religious leaders who looked the other way.

I’m rooting for Larry Elder to become governor of California. He would be a hilarious train wreck in Sacramento. He would also put our so-called Meritocracy to the test.

Now that I think about it, this thread is closely related to the inequality thread. Meritocracy can only cause inequality, right? But I need a thread to ridicule the likes of Larry Elder, I guess.

Larry Elder is a con man (I thought Obama was too, Turk) but an even bigger con man is Mark Levin with his book which has sold a half million or more copies to dufuses all over America. Levin must be laughing at the dupes all the way to the bank. But I will probably buy it when it hits the bargain bin because I need a laugh.

Oh boy, in 48 hours or so we’ll see if Larry Elder’s con gets him in the governor’s mansion!

So California rejected Larry Elder’s con. Have we seen the last of him? As he said himself, “This is just one battle in a long war.”

Peterson has a podcast praising the so-called Meritocracy, with some Brit defending it. Sorry, Trump is still Exhibit A against the dubious claim that we have a Meritocracy and not a Conocracy. By the way, sadly the podcast was a real yawn.

An opinion piece in the NYT praises Meritocracy, but it’s the fact that they feel the need to defend it is what interests me.

So where do I see the author of the pro-Meritocracy column in the NYT next? Newsmax, home of glorious Conocracy.

Haven’t spent much time debating the “Meritocracy” in a while. Is the whole idea passé? Who thought it up in the first place? Is it just a joke?

Time to pick on Meritocracy again, as all good losers should. The question is, what exactly is “merit”? I guess being able to give the boss the best blowjob could be considered merit. OK, bad example. Basically, I guess it is the guy who makes the least mistakes. If you are a lawyer and lose all your cases, well, I guess you lose at the merit game. So maybe this thread has no merit.
