I'm opening a 2024 thread because there is a chance the Dumbocrats will pick Crazy Joe as their nominee in 2020, in which case I will ignore 2020. I mean, which old white male nutcase is worse, Trump or Biden? I don't know. But Biden is too old to even be a Boomer.

www.nytimes.com/2019/03/08/opinion/hickenlooper-capitalism-democrats.html?action=click&module=Opinion&pgtype=Homepage"To prevail, a moderate Democrat will need to behave likewise. The message can go like this: Capitalism has worked for millions of Americans. It worked for me. We need to reform it so it can work for everyone. Is Hickenlooper the guy to do this? Doubtful. Then again, Donald Trump is gearing up to run a campaign based on a thriving economy (check), a country at peace (check), a mess of congressional investigations that will quickly confuse and bore the public (check), Democrats who want to turn Silicon Valley into a giant utility (check), an inconclusive Mueller report (likely check), and a Democratic Party that can neither bring itself to censure an anti-Semitic congresswoman nor publicly embrace the free-market system (check, check). Democrats still seem to think 2020 is going to be a referendum on the president. It’s not. It’s going to be a choice. Right now, the Trump campaign could hardly ask for a bigger favor from its overconfident opponents." Here is a rightie NYT columnist repeating the mantra that if the Dems don't nominate a centrist like Crazy Joe, Trump will be elected. Of course, even if the moderate Dem wins, righties win, so why not? As I've said in the past, I don't regret my losing vote for McGovern in 1972, but I do regret my winning vote for that con man Obama in 2008.

The way things are going, and as divided as the Democrats are, it sure looks like Trump will rule until 2024. Unless God intervenes...

www.nytimes.com/2019/07/09/us/politics/ross-perot-death.html?action=click&module=Top%20Stories&pgtype=Homepage"Ross Perot, the wiry Texas gadfly who made a fortune in computer services, amazed the nation with audacious paramilitary missions to Vietnam and Iran, and ran for president in 1992 and 1996 with populist talk of restoring Norman Rockwell’s America, died on Tuesday at his home in Dallas. He was 89. The cause was leukemia, a family spokesman, James Fuller, said. They called him the man from Texarkana, but he really came out of an era — the Great Depression, World War II and the exuberant postwar years — when boys had paper routes, folks tuned in to the radio and patriots rolled up their sleeves for Uncle Sam and built innovative companies and a powerful nation. “Most people give up just when they’re about to achieve success,” Mr. Perot liked to say. “They quit on the one-yard line. They give up at the last minute of the game one foot from a winning touchdown.” Unfortuntely probably not enough rotten old white guys like Ross will drop dead by 2020 to oust Trump.

www.nytimes.com/2019/09/19/opinion/elizabeth-warren.html?action=click&module=Opinion&pgtype=HomepageWith the Republicans powerless and irrelevant, the war within the Democratic Party grew vicious. Progressives detested moderate liberals even more than they did conservatives. The struggle came to a head with another set of Democratic primaries in 2024. The moderate liberals triumphed easily. It turns out that the immigrant groups, by then a large and organized force in American politics, had not lost faith in the American dream, they had not lost faith in capitalism. They simply wanted more help so they could compete within it. By 2030, progressive populism burned out as right-wing populism had. The Democrats became the nation’s majority party. This party ran on a one-word platform: unity. After decades of culture, class and demographic warfare, moderate liberals defined America as a universal nation, a pluralistic nation, embracing all and seeking opportunity for all. In a wildly diverse nation, voters handed power to leaders who were coalition-builders not fighters. The whole tenor of American politics changed. Here is David spinning an Ayn Randian style fantasy about the disaster of the Democrats electing a "Progressive" President. Of course, people in the future will say "We should have listened to David Brooks". Personally, I think they will say "We should have listened to Dredd".

www.nytimes.com/2019/11/05/opinion/trump-democrats-2020.html?action=click&module=Opinion&pgtype=Homepage"The 2020 presidential candidates are making a grave mistake by ignoring the lessons of 2018. I’m not saying they should run to the mythical center and support widespread deregulation or corporate tax cuts (which are also unpopular). They can still support all kinds of ambitious progressive ideas — a wealth tax, universal Medicare buy-in and more — without running afoul of popular opinion. They can even decide that there are a couple of issues on which they are going to fly in the face of public opinion. But if they’re going to do that, they also need to signal in other ways that they care about winning the votes of people who don’t consider themselves very liberal. Democrats, in short, need to start treating the 2020 campaign with the urgency it deserves, because a second Trump term would be terrible for the country." I put this in this thread because I DON'T CARE if Trump is reelected in 2020 as long as the Democrats don't run a Clintonesque moderate.

Oh, there's still an election going on, isn't there? So old old old old Bernie has thrown in the towel. Maybe he'll run again in 2024? He'll only be 83 by then.(What are you, an ageist?) Hell, Biden will be 82 in 2024! Of course, circumstance could put Warren in the WH before 2024. She'll only be 75 by 2024. Good old Trumpty would only be 78, in or out of the WH. Guess what age AOC will be? 35!!!!! How timely is that?

www.nytimes.com/2020/06/02/nyregion/nyc-protests-george-floyd.html"Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Tuesday sharply criticized the New York Police Department and second-guessed Mayor Bill de Blasio’s handling of the widespread looting that seized parts of New York City on Monday night. “The N.Y.P.D. and the mayor did not do their job last night,” Mr. Cuomo said. “It was rampant looting across the city last night that they did not stop.” “Look at the videos — it was a disgrace,” the governor said, adding that Mr. de Blasio “underestimates the scope of the problem” in controlling the nightly protests that have been marred by looting and violent outbursts from participants and police officers alike." What's more fun than Republicans turning on each other? Democrats! Is Cuomo establishing himself as a "law and order" Democrat for 2024?

I wonder who the Republicans will run against President Harris in 2024? Sadly, we have to elect Slow Joe first.

Looks to me like there is a 50-50 chance Trump will be reelected. Which means that not enough rotten Boomers have dropped dead yet. Maybe in four more years.

I don't know if anyone is excited about Slow Joe as Prez, but I am excited about the first woman VP. Maybe Joe will do us a favor, and resign after a year or two in office.

www.washingtontimes.com/news/2020/nov/22/trump-plotting-his-ultimate-revenge-getting-the-la/"President Trump, despite publicly declaring he won the Nov. 3 election, is privately telling people he plans on running again for president in 2024, The Washington Times has learned. The prospect of Mr. Trump mounting a post-loss comeback is already freezing out other Republicans with eyes on the White House, making them pick between fealty to the president and their own political aspirations. It also creates an instant complication for Republican leaders in Congress, who have to worry about crossing Mr. Trump while trying to thwart a Democratic president."
Which would mean Trumpy would be the face of the GOP for four more years. Couldn't happen to a better party.
