In my never ending quest to find amusement in the news of the day, I'm really excited about the battle starting between San Diego's new flaky geezer Democrat Mayor and Billionaire Blowhard Doug Manchester, cheerleader of the traditional San Diego Republican Establishment. Filner, elected of course with the help of the Unions, is not making many friends yet. But of course, as I have said before, Unions are not around to make friends. If they are not pissing the right people off, they are not doing their job. But I am sure old Dougie is still peeved that even with his right-wing propaganda rag the UT, he was unable to prevent Filner from becoming mayor. The next four years could be loads of laughs for San Diego.

I love democracy. Every once in a while the voters elect a guy to office detested by the Powers-that-be, such as when San Diego voters elected Filner. I had to laugh out loud at the latest rumble between Filner and the Republican attack dog Jan Goldsmith. It only could have been better if they had taken swings at one another.

I'm just glad that Filner is now San Diego's problem and he is not representing my district any longer!

Howdy all! I am back. The incompetence that is Bob Filner will do so much damage to San Diego that he might even be recalled! I just loved his performance in commandeering Goldsmith's news conference and then the clown, Filner, goes on to USD for a "civility" conference! I thought we had it bad here in glorious EC; but Filner proves that democrats are suckers every time they vote!

Hey Lou, Unfortunately, just like with Obama the news will not report the issues in the same way that they did when a Republican was Mayor or when a Republican was President. They will overlook the real problems and give Filner a pass - I can see the difference already in how things are reported.

Hey Jack, I do think the UT does keep track of the incompetence that is Bob Filner. However the msm dunces, no, they just fall all over themselves when Barry enters and lies!

As I said elsewhere, Manchester's other big target besides Filner is Jerry Brown. After trying to persuade him nicely the other day on fracking in California, today Dougy is slamming him over decisions from the PERB. I don't know too many details but it sounds like cities are trying to get out of contracts with Unions by votes of the people. Can that fly legally? I don't know.
But what surprised me is that Dougy has come out against the bullet train. That kind of taxpayer-funded gold-plated boondoggle for private construction companies seems right up his alley.

Today Manchester's fish wrap slammed Filner for planning to go easy on Marijuana dispensaries. Somehow I'm not surprised Manchester is on the Pot Prohibition bandwagon, yet I'm sure alcohol flows freely at the hypocrite's house.

Boy, Manchester sure took a cheap shot at Filner this morning, with a cartoon of Filner made up like The Joker in front of a guy tied up and labeled "city hall". How does the UT cartoonist Steve Breen sleep at night being such a Manchester tool?

I guess you think jobs are not part of the economic recovery for CA. What is the jobless rate for CA 11%? Actually City Hall was trying to rein in the pensions of NEW hires. Oh yes the "bullet train" Bakersfield to Fresno, the great metropoli of CA! Your earlier post on marijuana, yes vending machines for the "sick!"

Vending machines for pot? Do they have beer vending machines? I just want the same rights for pot smokers as alcohol drinkers get.
The bullet train SEEMED like a good idea at first, but now it's become a fiasco IMO.
I may be alone in this, but the idea of giving new hires much crappier pensions than us old folks are getting kind of violates some ethical principle in my mind.
And opening up California to fracking to create jobs SOUNDS like a good idea, but at what cost to the environment? I don't know. All I know is fracking takes large amounts of water.

Well here I am again like a shiny penny. jd---I didn't know alcohol was prescribed for glaucoma or cancer or hangnails or the jitters. We agree on the "bullet train." I don't think earning 90% of your salary is fair or equitable, especially when MY tax dollars are being used for that. Gee, what disasters have been forecast and proven incorrect in Canada, NY?

I just saw a poll that showed for the first time in the 40 years since pot became popular, that a majority of Americans think it should be legal. Sadly, I suspect that is because enough old folks who thought pot was evil have gone to meet their maker. It seems nothing would convince them otherwise.
As for pensions, I guess fairness is also in the eye of the beholder. I suppose if people in the private sector get crappy retirements, why not public servants?
I really don't know enough about the long term effects of fracking to make a judgement. As I said, I've read fracking takes lots of water, something I guess Canada has. Not so much in California, though.

I thought Filner vs the San Diego Republican Establishment would be lots of fun. I was wrong. It's pretty boring, like most city politics. Just arguments over which jar your tax dollar goes in, "and I don't even live in San Diego.
