Here's the original code:
My failed attempts:
I would have expected the first or second example to have worked. The third examples errors out.
If anyone sees the problem, please let me know.

My edits were incorrectly place within the <img src=> tag but I've moved them to the <a href=> tag without success. Raddy where are you? ?

This should work...

One would think so. I've tried it before but it produces a syntax error. I'm guessing "getfoercast" is a function and values and parameters are passed as a string following the "?" So anything after the "?" would be consider a parameter and its value dosn't fit the arguments expected. target="_blank" would have to go before the "?" but nothing seems to work for me. I've considered it is a browser issue but I don't think so. This should be straight forward html. I've spent about two hours on it and its pissing me off.

I want it behave like the drop-down links menu near the top of the page. And I used
*_blank to get that to work. Below is how I did the menu.
I wrote the above and it works fine so the weather thing should be a piece of cake, gurrrrrrrr

Turk your examples show the target as being within the image link and not the hyperlink. Am I missing something? Notice where my target ="_blank " is ... just before the closing caret for the hyperlink NOT in the img src designation. I got it to work on a php site.

I wrote the above and it works fine so the weather thing should be a piece of cake, gurrrrrrrr You used a script to define the url and target location. That is different from what you have attempted above.

See above. I mentioned I posted the code with target=_blank in <img src= but tested in <a href=. Anything after the "?" is a parameter and target="_blank" loads the url in the "self"
If you got it to work post the url or PM me with the url, I'd like to see if works in FF, Chrome, and/or IE.
I'll play with it a little more while I cool down from being outside mowing weeds.

The above produces the below link. It works but does not open the link in a new tab/window
http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=zmw:00000.1.45007&bannertypeclick=wu_simplewhite%20target=%22_blank%22
I would expect the below to work but it produces the same result as above but a different url and not in a new tab/window
http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast/*_blank?query=zmw:00000.1.45007&bannertypeclick=wu_simplewhite
It must work somehow because I can right click on a weather and select “Open Link In New Tab” and it opens in a new tab as expected. Target must be to the left of the “?”
The above examples ignore target="_blank"
I’m grabbing at straws here but none of the below work.
<a href="http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast/target="_blank"/?query=zmw:00000.1.45007&bannertypeclick=wu_simplewhite">
<a href="http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast/target="_blank"?query=zmw:00000.1.45007&bannertypeclick=wu_simplewhite">
<a href="http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast target="_blank"?query=zmw:00000.1.45007&bannertypeclick=wu_simplewhite">

Look at this page: www.my-frontporch.com/?page_id=28It uses the coding from above. (just make sure to undo the typo php makes with: wu_simplewhite vs simplew hite)

<a target="_blank" href="http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=zmw:92101.1.99999&bannertypeclick=wu_simplewhite" > <img src="http://weathersticker.wunderground.com/weathersticker/cgi-bin/banner/ban/wxBanner?bannertype=wu_simplewhite&airportcode=KSAN&ForcedCity=San Diego&ForcedState=CA&zipcode=92101&language=EN" alt="Click for San Diego, California Forecast" width="160" height="90" /></a>
Try the above verbatim. It works on other sites I am accessing.
The other way would be:
<a href="http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=zmw:92101.1.99999&bannertypeclick=wu_simplewhite" target="_blank" ><img src="http://weathersticker.wunderground.com/weathersticker/cgi-bin/banner/ban/wxBanner?bannertype=wu_simplewhite&airportcode=KSAN&ForcedCity=San Diego&ForcedState=CA&zipcode=92101&language=EN" alt="Click for San Diego, California Forecast" width="160" height="90" /></a>

Verbatim meaning just copy and paste it to the code.
Just under the comment re: sd ca weather - between the column open and close.

I'm just so removed from the basic skills so I appreciate your eagle eyes.
When the URL is produced it truncates "_blank" - the URL will read target= and it ends there. So I'm thinking it truncates the string in the first instruction set to a specif len(x)
I'll test it out later tonight. You can view source. One of my test scenarios actually worked once but when I could not replicate the result I began to question if I was seeing things. I know you've been there.
I'm off to bed but I'll take my laptop with me so I'll give it a go in about 30 minutes.
