"Senator Kennedy? Sources Close To Gov. I thought her recent and pathetic attempt to answer questions should have put her out of the running. Looks like another backroom brokered deal just like in Illinois. I think the magic went out of the name Kennedy a long time ago, but of course, as always, I could be wrong.

I’m a strong advocate for fresh faces and ideas in Washington. With that said I believe in the electoral process and if Sweet Caroline wants to be Senator she should run, the people of New York are deserving of an election. Any appointment to congress should have a reasonable resume Caroline has none.
Caroline bother could have kept the Kennedy name if the forefront with his death the name has faded and Caroline will not be capable to revive it.
Jack is that your disclaimer? “I could be wrong”

The Kennedy name is America. Just as expected the male population wants the good old boy and can not deal with a strong female. Senator Caroline is New York.
Very much in the public eye during her father's presidency and at her father's funeral in 1963, Caroline Kennedy graduated from Radcliffe with a B.A. in 1980, trained at Sotheby's in art, and graduated from Columbia Law School with a J.D. in 1988. She married Edwin Schlossberg in 1986. They have three children.
Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg's 1991 book, In Our Defense: The Bill of Rights in Action, and her 1996 book, The Right to Privacy, were written with Ellen Alderman. She published a collection of some of the favorite poems of her mother, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, in 2001. In 2002, she published a collection of essays which echoed her father's 1957 Profiles in Courage, and in 2003 a collection of patriotic poems, speeches, and songs.
In 2008, she served as a member of the advisory committee suggesting vice presidential nominees for Barack Obama's presidential campaign.

Fem Dem,
I think it's a cheap shot to try and turn this into a sexist issue. We deserve the best and the brightest to represent the country in the US Senate. We can't afford to turn our elected offices into some type of family dynasties.

Jack,
Fem Dem’s avatar looks like finger nails screeching across blackboard, maybe she knows she is irritating.
There is a lot of blank space below some of my post and not anyone else, not sure why but I'm trying to figure it out.

I think the magic went out of the name Kennedy a long time ago, but of course, as always, I could be wrong. Not to be a wet blanket or anything, ;D I mean that never stopped me before, but the public is acting like this is the first time a senate seat was "given" away. We have a long history of putting the surviving widows, loyal political friends, and any number of people to fill seats for senators who have gone to work in the White House or gone to wherever they go when they leave the earth (depending on the senator). It seems we are making a big deal about this now like it is some kind of constitutional crisis. To the victors go the spoils and that is the way it goes. Nobody is saying much about the republicans who are getting promoted as a result of the Obama victory. Just a thought. Recent examples: Jean Carnahan (R-Mo) appointed to fill husbands seat (died in plane crash). Jocelyn Burdick (R-ND) appointed to fill husbands seat (deceased). Maryon Allen (D-AL) appointed to fill husbands seat (deceased). There are numerous examples of appointments where the person appointed did not have significant political experience. This is nothing new.

Right, wrong or indifferent there is something that rubs me the wrong way having Caroline “Silver Spo on” Kennedy gift wrapped a US Senate seat.
Her greatest accomplishments have been birth and a song written about her. This just reeks of in your face pay and play politics. And as Jack says “I could be wrong.”

I never suggested that she was the best available, just that the process is nothing new. Personally I think they should pick A-Rod and just see if he can finally deliver for the good people of New York when the chips are down. Maybe they should pick Farve since he clearly is his own man even in the big city.

A-Rod has the money to pay and play. Are you suggesting that Sweet's appointment would be a joke? Well what the heck if a comedian can become a senator why not Sweets.

The State of New York will pick the right Democrat for the job and Caroline Kennedy has about the same amount of experience as Hilary Clinton had. Clinton did a wonderful job ans so will Kennedy. It is all about the name--Kennedy-- hated by Conservos; championed by Liberals. Conservos have no say, New York is overwhelmingly a Democrat run state.
The new Senator from the great state of New York- Caroline Kennedy.

As Larry pointed out there have been many appointees that had little to zero experience, which was my gripe. Now I admit I have trouble with the name, not just the Kennedy name but Caroline Kennedy, I find her disingenuous. I felt differently about her brother.

We can't afford to turn our elected offices into some type of family dynasties. Me making this sexist - BULL. CM proves my point John Kennedy, OK, Caroline Kennedy not, yes it is in the name. MALES MAKE IT A SEXIST ISSUE. Wake up. And you voted for McCain, don't deny it.

I don't really know why the adverse reaction to Caroline Kennedy's possible appointment to the NY Senate seat.Perfectly legal,it's been done numerous times. We always talk about fresh faces, people who haven't been in politics forever, people from other walks of life,"throw out all incumbents",etc.Maybe it is sexism but more likely Republican-like frustration at another pro-Obama senator. Also think of the cost to the state of New York of a special election. So I guess you guys will have to suck it up and live with it. Look on the good side:another big-name LIBERAL to critisize and dump on!!!
