Did you see how happy EVERYONE was today on the mall. The only angry faces were those at home or on conservative radio. Angry and unhappy white bigots and racists.
The majority of America had tears in their eyes.
Ken Burns said this:
Thomas Jefferson wrote that all men are created equal, but he meant all white men as America had slaves.
Abraham Lincoln wrote that it also meant all black men were created equal.
Today America told the world that it believed what Lincoln wote.
Three Acts in progression of American history.
Act IV will be the success of America when the first Gay man is elected President.

Larry you are really right on your post about Obama increasing the National debt. He is not throwing the money away. He is investing in America.
What vision he has. Improving our energy problems. Improving our enviornment. Rebuilding our infrastructure. Investing in the people of America.
Conservative vision from the time Bush came into office was War, gay marriage and abortion.
Can you see the awesome difference?

Interpret it anyway you want Jack Oliver, create your own reality, this is a hopeless and senseless argument. It always is when my little brother Jacky is involved! He really needs to put down that crack pipe!

Vor, I think there will have to be more than just tax cuts and building. A large portion of our problem is the growth in entitlements. Social Security and medicare have been the hatchets that more than one politician has cut their own throat on. He is only going to be able to get two thirds of the Senate to even talk about changing those two programs (those not up for the mid-terms). Health care reform has to be first, but medicare and social security are future crisis that will only get larger as time goes by. I think Obama is both a quick learner and intelligent. But what is in front of him is just monumental. I think if he can convince the legislators that it will be easier to deal with these problems than the fall-out of not dealing with them perhaps he has a chance. If the public is visibly behind him than I guess anything is possible, but to do everything he wants seems kind of rabbit out of the hat to me. But I guess no more unlikely than the prospect that he would win the election the day he announced his candidacy. That really is the audacity of hope.

Larry, one of the talking points of President Obama's speech was the lack of regulations in our country. Entitlements need to be governed, not cut. We need to weed out the cheaters and help those in need. Obama made that point clear in his speech today. Regulations!!!!
All he needs is two thirds to get his will done.
It is monumental and he needs our support and effort. Thats what he asked for. Some of these things may take years. But he now has turned the country around and is heading us in the right direction. He needs America to help. To pay more. He needs Corporate America to help, to pay taxes and not profit like the oil industry has. To give and conserve is what America has to do. Its called patriotism and realism. Higher taxes??? Maybe. Thats what sacrifice is. You want war.....you have to pay for it. You want freedom, there is a cost.
We have had freebees most of my life. I have never had to sacrifice paying taxes. But we need some regulation and overseeing of where our money goes. Politicians talk in billions of dollars and we need that money regulated and some accountability.
Obama is going to be held accountable by everyone. He will change our country for the better.
Its a new country and it started today. Together we move forward. God bless America and God bless President Obama.

While I've often been critical of the U-T,particularly in regard to it's shrinking size,I have to say they had a great issue today(Wed. 01-09) in tribute to the inauguration.Graet photos and written articles.I hope the LA times is still available later today.

Bruce, I've never been a fan of the SD UT and have sent numerous emails to editors and staff over their obvious bias in reporting the news. I do, however, read the on-line edition as a daily source of local news. After a little adjustment to the editorial slant I can usually skim through the articles without much increase in my blood pressure and they do provide the relief valve of a comment section for most articles. Yesterday, I thought they did an exceptional job in their online coverage with the addition of a live page one video feed of the inauguration. I alternated between that video feed and the radio to listen to the oath of office and the speech.
