I was raised Catholic, and when I was young I thought I knew what Christianity was all about. Hardly. I’m old now, and the older I get the less and less I understand Christianity, stating with item one, the Trinity. Really? Three Gods in one? I think the Muslims, not to mention the Jews, have pegged this right as theological hokum. Of course the whole concept of God having a son is really far-fetched to me. As for the Holy Spirit, what is that about? I really don’t know.

I’m not going to bang on someone’s belief system, well I’d make an except when it comes to the head loppers. I understand Christians except the trinity by faith. I can’t do that. There’s zero evidence of a God, let alone a son of God and some ghost that becomes holy. For me it is just a fairy tale.
CRT wants us to believe every white baby born is a racist, if I apply the same logic then everybody born is an atheist until they say some magic words, bam they become a Christian.

If I actually thought my whiny little complaints about Christianity might harm someone’s beliefs, I might not do it. But I don’t think they will.

Ok, here is another complaint: Christianity’s ambivalence toward war: They buy the dogma of “Peace through strength”. Do you think Jesus would believe that philosophy? How would I know. But modern Christians seem to totally reject pacifism, if that is what Jesus was peddling. What good is religion if it rejects pacifism?

So what should I complain about Christianity today? I’m torn between the annual Christmas orgy and Satan. Christmas is too cliche, so how about that wonderful character from Bible mythology, Lucifer? Heck, he’s one of the more fun things to come from the Bible, putting a face on the concept of evil, if you believe in good and evil. I love all the various depictions of him in the arts, occasionally sympathetic. Why not? As the song says, we all have the Devil inside. And lots of the time he is depicted as a slick trickster, like Loki. I think he is even a character in Marvel comics. Please don’t accuse Wicca of worshiping him, they don’t. But the Devil made me do this post.

Ok, I’ve gotten off on a tangent on this thread. I’m really not here to complain about Christianity, though there is more than enough to complain about. I’m trying to figure out what the real message of Christianity is. Not an easy task I’m finding.

So Jesus can give me unconditional love. So can my dog.

So I hear Dinesh D’Souza is claiming Muslims are converting to Christianity by the millions after having visions of Jesus. Is it true? Who cares? But it does bring up how many times I read about people who become Christians after having “visions”, to which I say, where’s my vision? Not fair. Does Jesus play favorites?

For a moment I thought about changing the name of this thread to “Moral Bankruptcy of Christianity”, but I’m still trying to keep this thread about understanding, not condemning.

Ok, I’m getting the feeling that no one gives a rat’s ass about Jesus. I can live with that.

Hey Jesus (kind of like Hey Siri)! What’s up with Christianity and gender? If you want to freak out a Christian, refer to God as a “her”. And of course you are the Son of God, not the daughter, or neither, or even trans. And of course the apostles are all men. And the Buddha was a man as was Mohammed. On the other hand, the Holy Ghost, whatever he/she/they/it is seems genderless. What gives?

So tomorrow is our Savior’s big birthday. Savior of what? What did he save us from? A wrathful God? A God who would damn his own creations? Does religion have to make sense? Apparently not.

So here’s something else that offends my sense of the rational: that God, the creator of a billion billion stars, would take a time out to write a book for some insignificant species of barely sentient primates. And I would have to ask him was the Bible the best he could do? Pretty unimpressive. I would expect more from an omnipotent being.

I talked about “Peace through strength” in another thread. So I’m wondering, where does Jesus’s “Turn the other cheek” fit in with that? Looks to me that is one of His most ignored teachings and that is saying a lot.

So Jesus is our “savior”, eh? What did he save us from? Oh yeah, a supposed vengeful God. An imaginary superhero saving us from an imaginary menace.
