Windows Firewall I’m trying to turn on Windows Firewall only to see error code 0x80070424, I’ve exhausted all the tips from Microsoft and many support sites to no avail. Anyone no of a magic trick to fix this? There are a couple of things: 1) Virus infection 2) Damaged DLLs Try the following and if it does not work, let me know. I am gone for most of the day at a client's site, however can connect with you later on either tonight or later in the week. A) Make sure BITS is turned on in Services and that the Firewall is also turned on. [Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) ] B) Error number: 0×80070424 in Windows Update follow the steps below:- Click on Start -> Run Then paste the command below and enter %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\WUAUENG.DLL This line is used to reregister WUAUENG.DLL in windows. You are done! Launch your windows update again, you should be able to perform update now. C) These must be downloaded new even if you have them from before. Check the hosts file and settings in your browser: ( www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-home-security-solutions ) Download the following files: rkill.com // or iExplorer.exe ( www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/anti-virus/rkill ) TDSSKiller ( www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/anti-virus/tdsskiller) malwarebytes ( www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/anti-virus/malwarebytes-anti-malware) Combofix ( www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/anti-virus/combofix ) PLEASE - do not run those until I am back. There is an order and a method with these files. Otherwise, there can be more damage. Also, do you have Antivirus software on your machine? I emailed you some additional instructions as well. I will check back when I am back from my client's site.

It happened about a week ago just before the SDSU vs. Elon University basketball game, I went to Elon’s message board for some basketball trash talk and got infected with the Microsoft 2012 virus. Pretty much everything was disabled so the first thing I did was run ComboFix, which got me running again. Then I ran Malwarebytes and it didn’t find any problems, then ran Ms Security Essentials and it found 3 viruses. I’ve read on a couple of forums Malwarebytes isn’t doing to job but Essentials is and for this issue that was the case.
I did find %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\WUAUENG.DLL on support site and ran it a couple of times along with Microsoft’s FixIt which did absolutely nothing.
I did run ComboFix again, Malwarebytes and Essentials a secod or third time and all say my system is clean but I can’t up date without the getting error code: 0×80070424 BITS is running. I’m confident the viruses are gone but the damage is not.
I need to do some tractor work but should be back in after 5.
