Uh-oh, all is not well in Zelenskyland. He has fired two of his generals for being “traitors”. Is the halo starting to slip? He is willing to destroy Ukraine to “save” it. Not that I don’t wish Putin would blow his brains out.

NATO can back the heroic Ukrainians as much as they want and feel good about themselves, but there is a price that has to be paid of unknown dimensions.

While NATO marches in to what could be a great folly, France may elect a far right President in a surge of right wing opinion. Usually I find this merde fun to watch but it’s a little too seriously scary.

So we have “liberal” pro-war pro-NATO Macron vying with anti-NATO rightist Le Pen. What’s an old leftist like myself supposed to think? Makes me laugh at myself.

What has also been surprising is NATO’s level of bloodthirstiness, with them chanting “Kill Russians! Kill Russians!”.

The original title of this thread was “Europe’s Descent”, intending to document the drift of Europe to the right. Then I renamed it “Europe’s Suicide” after Russia invaded Ukraine. But that could be interpreted many ways, including as some claim accepting immigrants. So now I’m focusing on the bloody battle between Russia and NATO backed Ukraine.

So it looks like both Finland and Sweden are goosestepping into European militarism. What is with this new generation of Swedes and Finns? My interest in going to Europe was already zero.

I guess young Europeans ARE buying the Putin as Hitler narrative. Who am I to disagree? On the other hand, isn’t it the job of young people to disagree? I could be wrong. And living in the past. Ah, nostalgia.

Ha-ha! China and India aren’t buying Europe’s BS, but are buying lots of Russian oil. Meanwhile, Europe may be starting to run out of Ukrainian cannon fodder in its war on Russia.

It is humorous that Europe is having a record heat wave, since they seem to have put away concern about climate change in favor of killing Russians.

So the government in Italy has fallen, and what is the concern of a NYT article?
“The mere fact that Mr. Draghi had a seat at that table reflected how, by the force of his stature and credibility, he had made his country — one saddled by debt and persistent political instability — an equal partner with Europe’s most important powers. Critical to that success was not only his economic bona fides as the former president of the European Central Bank, but also his unflinching recognition that Russia’s war presented an existential challenge to Europe and its values.“
So it’s given as an assumption that Russia gives an “existential challenge” to Europe and its “values”. Shades of the Cold War. But this one is already hot. Frankly, I don’t give a rats ass about Europe’s “values”. Values are in the eye of the beholder. And I doubt Italy will jump off the pro-war bandwagon.

Ha-ha! Is Europe on the verge of energy disaster? Thousands could lose their jobs just for the Glory of Ukraine. I’m sure they would do it gladly. 🤡 Couldn’t happen to a more deserving continent.

Well, the US Senate has voted 95 to 1 for the pointless expansion of NATO. One more clue there is no Left left. The Millennials will have to suffer the consequences. But at least Ireland has not let me down. Yet.

Wow. Ukrainians just murdered a Russian Nationalist media figure. And the Ukrainians are supposed to be the good guys? Maybe the Russians did it themselves to motivate the country.

So WION reports on Europe’s “energy crisis”, but I feel no sympathy for their self-inflicted shortages. Did they think they could help kill Russkis without paying a price?
