What does "Atlas Shrugged" have to do with opposing Unions? It is the bible for hundreds of thousands of people and still a best-seller. Alan Greenspan was an avid Ayn Rand fan for one. And the Cato Institute is a Rand-inspired libertarian think tank that is often quoted by many on the right, including Roger. Too bad Alan Greenspan forget the basic point made in Atlas Shrugged. What is interesting is that although the book is fiction - it was based upon Ayn Rand's experiences in Europe. What is scary - much of what she presents is what is occurring today in America and around the world. Has anyone read The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand? (I do not mean watch the movie - I do mean read the book).

From the NYT:
“Improbably, she and her co-workers have far exceeded their goal. Since December, when her store became the only corporate-owned Starbucks in the United States with a certified union, more than 150 other stores have voted to unionize, and more than 275 have filed paperwork to hold elections. Their actions come amid an increase in public support for unions, which last year reached its highest point since the mid-1960s, and a growing consensus among center-left experts that rising union membership could move millions of workers into the middle class.
Ms. Brisack’s weekend shift represents all these trends, as well as one more: a change in the views of the most privileged Americans. According to Gallup, approval of unions among college graduates grew from 55 percent in the late 1990s to 70 percent last year.”

Here’s a convenient vintage Union thread. So the Writer’s strike is wrapping up, and it is said writers got most of what they wanted. Maybe that will be a lesson for all those workers who don’t want anything to do with a union, but they are slow learners anyway so probably not.
