I have to admit I am addicted to reading Murdoch's Wall Street Journal. Their daily worship of avarice and usury fascinates me. Plus their connections to the Powers-that-be, their triumphalism after the fall of the Iron Curtain, and their China-bashing. They are dedicated to a world of mindless and endless Darwinian competition yet pretend to be pro-religion. What could be more fun?
Yes, this is a resurrected thread.

Let's see what the headlines in today's WSJ say: "Obama Can but Trump Can't." Here the WSJ is whining about Trump's latest legal loss (about DACA) in the Supreme Court, even packed by him. Another article is titled "After Ruling, Trump Promises 'New Justices'" I can hardly wait.
Another headline: "M A G A-for All." This column by the cops-can-do-no-wrong Kimberley Strassel makes the case that promoting "opportunity" for minorities could help him get reelected (like "opportunity" hasn't been hyped for decades already). Why bother? Rush and Sean are guaranteeing that Trump will be reelected in a landslide in 2020. They might be right.
Meanwhile, the third section of the WSJ is called "Mansion", in case anyone was in doubt who this paper targets. But as I've said elsewhere, Capitalism is a scam but everyone wants a piece of it.

Lots of fun headlines in today's WSJ! "Virus Spread Accelerates Across U.S." "Progressives Show Their Strength as Ballots Are Counted" "Germany Squirms in Middle As Washington, Beijing Scrap" "Suit by Minnesota Says Exxon, Koch Lied About Climate" "Soybean Prices Bounce Back From Pandemic as China Steps Up Buying" "Elders' Virus Deaths Test Canada"
The last one was interesting because 82% of C-19 deaths were in nursing homes in Canada, and in the USA 41% were in nursing homes. I had no idea.

Not much that interesting in today's WSJ. But one commentary, "I'm Leaving Seattle for Texas So My Employees Can Be Free", where a right-wing (and religious) CEO whines about the political situation on the West Coast, did amuse me with one line he wrote about Seattle and San Francisco: "governments dominated by cryptosocialists".

Let's see what caught my eye in today's WSJ: "Trump To Pull U.S. Out of WHO". OK, it's a slow news day when some Clown Nationalism move like that is all that's interesting.

www.nytimes.com/2020/07/10/business/media/wall-street-journal-staff.html?action=click&module=Latest&pgtype=Homepage"Staff members of The Wall Street Journal have been pressing newsroom leaders to make fundamental changes in how the newspaper covers race, policing, and its primary focus, the business world, along with other matters. In a June 23 letter to the editor in chief, Matt Murray, a group identifying itself only as “members of the WSJ newsroom” said the paper must “encourage more muscular reporting about race and social inequities,” and laid out detailed proposals for revising its news coverage. “In part because WSJ’s coverage has focused historically on industries and leadership ranks dominated by white men, many of our newsroom practices are inadequate for the present moment,” the letter said. Here is another newsroom where I suspect white Boomers have been caught with their pants down turning a blind eye to racial injustices.

I forgot about this hilarious headline on Friday: "Pompeo Calls for Chinese To Turn From Xi". This from a guy who could be out of work in January! And for even more fun, there is an opinion piece from the editors titled "A Note to Readers" in which they apparently reply to a letter from 280 staffers asking them to change their editorial ways, to which they say "Screw you, we will continue to do Murdoch's bidding". And they accuse their own staffers of being part of the new right wing boogeyman, the "progressive cancel culture". ROFL!!!

So here is today's tons o' fun from the WSJ:
"Margaret Sanger Gets Cancelled" - Trying to smear Planned Parenthood by some anti-abortion fanatic.
"De Havilland Saved Hollywood From Stalin" - Cold War nostalgia from Reagan worshiper Ronald Radosh.
"Higher Ed and the Fragmentation of America" - None other than fossil Orrin Hatch (b. 1934) whining about (what else?) "cancel culture" on campus.
"A Weekend of Urban Anarchy" - the obvious and predictable from the editors
"Down Under Doubles Down on Checking China" - The Aussies kiss Trump's ass when it comes to China, along with Japan. Best of all, they will be spending a lot on American arms, which is of course the whole point.

Today's notable WSJ headlines: "Huawei Takes Top Spot in Global Phone Sales as China Rebounds", "China's Corn Appetite Seen Boosting U.S." These two headlines must really twist up the panties of Trump's allies in China bashing: The NYT and WSJ.

Haven't quoted much from the WSJ lately because frankly I have better things to do than read about the exploits of the gloating usurers of Wall Street. Plus I save 4 bucks a day.

I still buy the WSJ because I find the trials and tribulations of the poor oppressed wealthy interesting. But there is something also annoying about it and I think I’ve figured out what it is: Their smugness.

Oops! My local 7/11 does not seem to be carrying the Wall Street Journal any more. Sorry, Rupert, you won’t be getting my five bucks.

Bought another WSJ today after a long vacation and predictably they had a opinion piece of how essential backing Ukraine was, using the Domino Theory, no less, that if we don’t stop them in Kiev, the dirty Russkies will end up in Paris. Ok, maybe I exaggerate a little, but what else is new? And of course they bring up the oid dogma of us protecting our “credibility” (whatever that is), the same lame excuse they made for trying to get me killed in Vietnam.

I broke down and bought the WSJ the other day. What a waste of five bucks. The editorials, usually the only things worth reading, were especially boring. Sorry, Rupert. Time may have passed the WSJ by. The incredibly slanted rants on Newsmax are much more entertaining. And what do I care about the business world? I was purged from that world years ago.
