www.nytimes.com/2019/12/13/opinion/uk-elections.html"When Britain flummoxed and flabbergasted the world by voting in 2016 to leave the European Union, it seemed like a one-off: An unexpected gamble by a normally prudent country, but nothing that signified a profound shift beyond the United Kingdom and Europe. Donald Trump’s election a few months later proved otherwise. Brexit was a portent, not a fluke. The British electorate may have been incautious, but it was ahead of the trend. The desire, however misplaced or ugly, to “take back” control of a country from supercilious political elites was a global phenomenon, not a local event. Don’t think it can’t happen again, in much the same way. That’s a lesson Democrats ought to draw, quickly and clearly, from the thumping victory Boris Johnson won for the Conservative Party on Thursday. As recently as September, some left-wing pundits and politicians were glibly writing off Johnson as a “failed prime minister,” peddling a “fantasy” of a renegotiated Brexit and facing “political disgrace” after losing his majority in Parliament." Here's the predictable gloom and doom for the Democratic left because of Boris's big win with British yokels. So what is worse for the Dems in the long run, losing with a Warren or winning with a Clinton? I mean Biden. You tell me.

www.nationalreview.com/news/aoc-takes-aim-at-party-leadership-for-tolerating-moderates-democrats-can-be-too-big-of-a-tent/Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.) criticized the Democratic party for its tolerance of relative moderates, saying her own party has become “too big of a tent” in an interview published Monday. “For so long, when I first got in, people were like, ‘Oh, are you going to basically be a tea party of the left?’ And what people don’t realize is that there is a tea party of the left, but it’s on the right edges, the most conservative parts of the Democratic Party,” Ocasio-Cortez told New York zine. “So the Democratic Party has a role to play in this problem, and it’s like we’re not allowed to talk about it.” The freshman lawmaker also lashed out at party leadership for their intolerance of internal criticism, saying “we’re not allowed to talk about anything wrong the Democratic Party does.” Ocasio-Cortez pointed to the reaction elicited by her 2018 election as proof that Democrats cater too often to conservative interests, and that the party’s progressive shift was helping Democrats learn “to stretch our wings a little bit on the left.” She then bashed the Congressional Progressive Caucus, of which she is a member, for being overly permissive in allowing moderates to adopt the label, saying “they let anybody who the cat dragged in call themselves a progressive.” The Dems are apparently big enough for any DINO, but it's still too far to the right for me. I don't think a new improved Dem party is coming anytime soon. Maybe losing with Biden in 2020 will push things along. Why vote for a Republican disguised as a Democrat when you can vote for the real thing? And the fact that so many Obama voters voted for Trump says a lot about the party, and not just about Democratic misogyny.

Maybe we are on the verge of a new Dem party with Biden's poor showing in the dubious Iowa caucuses. And it would be much more fun to lose with Sanders then to lose with Biden. But it is hilarious how the Iowa Dems screwed up the vote counting.

Looks like Bloomie has crashed on his first debate. I feel so bad. NOT. So the chances Bernie will be the nominee keeps increasing. Of course, he will lose without some kind of miracle, and then the Dems will go back to nominating some Clintonite moderate in 2024. So it's business as usual for the foreseeable future. But there is always the unforeseen future. There could actually be some real crisis coming down the road.

Bernie continues to surge in the Democratic Socialist Party primaries. Makes me smile. But last time a Progressive Democrat challenged a corrupt incumbent Republican was almost 50 years ago and he got his ass kicked royally. Has anything changed? Probably not.

Still, one of the unintended consequences of Trump is one I was hoping for: The revival of the Democratic left, much to the dismay of the DINO centrists of the party. The new leftists will lose, of course, but that is beside the point.

So the Democratic voters of South Carolina have put Old Fart Biden back in the game. The business-as-usual Dems are no doubt thrilled. And here I was almost considering voting for Sanders if he got the nom, if only because the right wing mudslingers were calling him a Commie. But I will never vote for Biden. Will American voters choose Mr. Bland over Trump? Even if Trump gets us out of Afghanistan, which Hillary would have never done?

So Biden is just waiting to be crowned as the Dem nominee. But I'm seeing danger signs for the Dems: Sexual harassment charges against Old Fart Joe. Didn't the Dems realize men of that generation so often have some sexual harassment history? Guess not. Should have gone with Liz.

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/may/02/joe-biden-tara-reade-sexual-assault-claim-donald-trump"For weeks Biden’s campaign has grappled with how he should defend him while upholding the “believe women” ethos of the #MeToo movement that Democrats have embraced. In the years since Donald Trump was elected, Democrats have confronted sexual misconduct aggressively, policing their own ranks to draw a sharp distinction with Republicans on issues of gender, equality and accountability."
Ya gotta love Dems having to defend rotten geezer Creepy Joe. Serves them right.

Looks like both parties will be selling business-as-usual in this election, now that Trump himself is business-as-usual. Which party can get us back to "normal" the quickest?

www.nytimes.com/2020/06/04/nyregion/nyc-protests-george-floyd.html?action=click&module=Spotlight&pgtype=Homepage"Following a night of mostly peaceful protests in New York that culminated in police officers aggressively arresting protesters after an 8 p.m. curfew, Mayor Bill de Blasio on Thursday emphatically defended the Police Department’s actions. The crowds in Brooklyn and Manhattan who were demonstrating against police brutality and systemic racism on Wednesday were bigger. And the police were quicker to enforce the clampdown than they had been before, moving swiftly to disperse demonstrators from rainy city streets and to arrest those who failed to clear out. “When people are instructed by the N.Y.P.D., especially after curfew they must follow those instructions,” the mayor told reporters at a briefing. Referring to officers aggressively dispersing crowds, Mr. de Blasio added, “It’s not an unfair action to say, in the context of this crisis, in the context of curfew, there is a point where enough is enough.”
Tell me again how Democratic politicians are any different than Republican?

www.nytimes.com/2020/08/17/climate/alaska-oil-drilling-anwr.html?action=click&module=Top%20Stories&pgtype=Homepage"WASHINGTON — Overturning five decades of protections for the largest remaining stretch of wilderness in the United States, the Trump administration on Monday finalized its plan to open up part of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska to oil and gas development. The decision sets the stage for what is expected to be a fierce legal battle over the fate of this vast, remote Alaska habitat. The Interior Department said it had completed its required reviews and would start preparing to auction off leases to companies interested in drilling inside the refuge’s coastal plain, which is believed to sit atop enough oil to fill billions of barrels but is prized by environmentalists for its pristine landscapes and wildlife."
What irks me about this is that I would bet money President Biden would not reverse this. But maybe President Harris would.

I just want to make it very clear that while I can never vote Republican, I am still disgusted with Biden. If it wasn't for Harris, I would sit this one out. While there is little to chose between Biden and Trump, Harris beats religious nutcase Pence by a mile.

If Chris Salcedo has anything to do with it, everyone will call the Democrats "Democratic Socialists". I think I said a long time ago I have no problem with that.

From Newsmax:
Former President Donald Trump on Friday called progressive Democrats "a true powerhouse" and predicted a challenge to Senate Majority Leader ck Smer's senate seat by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York.
“The progressives gain far more power with the legislation being currently talked about by failing than if it passes,” Trump said in a statement. “It makes them a true powerhouse. Next up, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, D-N.Y., running against (Senate Majority Leader) ck Smer, D-N.Y., for his US Senate Seat!”
AOC taking S’mer’s seat? If only! And Ilhan Omar can have old hag Pelosi’s seat.
