www.washingtontimes.com/news/2019/jun/16/donald-trumps-evangelical-christians-aim-grow-vote/ "Evangelical Christians were the backbone of President Trump’s 2016 victory, and he is doing even better among them as he prepares for 2020, according to polling that shows strong support and religious-right leaders who say they are working to translate that into votes. Ralph Reed, founder and chairman of the Faith & Freedom Coalition, said plans are in the works to register 1 million evangelical voters, knock on 3 million doors and put literature in more than 117,000 rches in key states, with the hopes of contacting roughly 30 million people. “It’s going to be the most ambitious and far-reaching voter mobilization effort in the history of the conservative faith community, and it’s going to be roughly three times the level of what we did in 2016,” he said. Mr. Trump won 81% of self-identified evangelicals’ votes in the 2016 election, according to exit polling. A Public Opinion Strategies poll commissioned by Mr. Reed’s group says the president now has a stunning 83% approval rate among that bloc. That creates a massive pool of people with goodwill toward Mr. Trump — if they can be persuaded to show up on Election Day." Yes, I remember very well how Evangelicals proved themselves huge hypocrites in 2016. Are they exchanging long-term spiritual credibility for short-term political power?

So who else is there to blame for our present pestilence? Of course, if we had spent the trillions we did murdering random Muslims the last few decades on health care infrastructure instead we would be in much better shape to cope with C-19 then we are, but that would have depended on human foresight, which has never been in large supply. Which God is to blame for also.

On Friday there was the predictable "Maybe it's time we turned to God" column in the WSJ because of you-know-what. I just never get the concept of "turning to God" in time of crisis. Isn't God the author of Covid-19 just like he is the author of everything?

Here I was beginning to think God was going to wipe the slate clean with a pox instead of with AI, but he couldn't even bring himself to eliminate Boris Johnson from the planet. Who is more deserving than Boris? I can think of one person. Frankly, I think mankind has become too clever to be humbled by a pox, but it's his very cleverness that will bring about the AI Apocalypse.

The older I get the more I think that luck is everything. I know some people think you "make your own luck" but I'm doubtful. Those folks who are now in their graves from Covid-19 were just plain unlucky IMHO. Or were they the victims of "God's plan"? Some plan.

So has Trump's luck finally run out? Probably not. But maybe this will be a wake-up call for him, and he'll see the error of his ways. Anything is possible, with or without God.

Just like God intervened to get Obama elected in 2008 by causing the Wall Street meltdown, he sent Covid-19 to get Trump rejected for a second term.

So I’m wondering if God’s plan for us includes nuclear annihilation. Of course that would be our fault not His.

If I believed in God I would be pissed at him for all the disappointments in my life caused by the fact I was born as someone who is not the sharpest tool in the shed. Thanks for nothing, dude.

I do say “God did this” or “God said that” etc a lot. I find the anthropomorphism of the Great Spirit in all of us quite useful.

What I want to know is why God invented insanity. Doesn’t that make a farce of the dogma of Free Will?

Haven’t blamed God for anything lately, even though he is the author of all things. What good does it do? Which reminds of that unpleasant old saying, “God helps those that help themselves”. So what good is He?

Watching a vid on NYT on the disappearance of amphibians worldwide. Some fungus is killing them. If God doesn’t care, why should we?
