I hope the Democrats stand tough against Trump's idiotic wall. If not, every time the crybaby wants something, he will shut down the government. The GOP is proving it cannot govern. Still, depending on the Democrats having a spine is a risky thing.

I guess I could comment on Trumpty's latest juvenile gambit to get his moronic wall built, but frankly at this moment in time domestic politics have gotten so inane I'm just not interested. It's much more fun watching the North Atlantic Alliance come apart, even if it is probably only temporary.

I thought I had a thread that was titled "Does it matter who is President?" but I can't find it, so I'll make do with this one. I'm really am not caring a bit about 2020. We have the worst President imaginable yet Americans just go on doing their thing, so what difference does it make?

www.nytimes.com/2019/04/07/us/politics/kirstjen-nielsen-dhs-resigns.html?action=click&module=Top%20Stories&pgtype=Homepage"WASHINGTON — Kirstjen Nielsen, the homeland security secretary, resigned on Sunday after meeting with President Trump, ending a tumultuous tenure in charge of the border security agency that had made her the target of the president’s criticism. “I have determined that it is the right time for me to step aside,” Ms. Nielsen said in a resignation letter. “I hope that the next secretary will have the support of Congress and the courts in fixing the laws which have impeded our ability to fully secure America’s borders and which have contributed to discord in our nation’s discourse.” HA-HA! ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST! At this rate, Trumpty will run out of sycophantic flunkies.

www.nytimes.com/2019/04/13/us/politics/trump-ilhan-omar-sept-11.html"President Trump on Friday targeted Representative Ilhan Omar for remarks she made during a speech on civil rights and Muslims in America with a graphic video featuring the burning World Trade Center towers and other images from Sept. 11, 2001, that he tweeted to millions of his followers. The Twitter post from the president stoked and amplified a controversy that has been a focus of conservative news outlets, which have sought to elevate Ms. Omar — a Minnesota Democrat and one of the first Muslim women elected to Congress — as a political target, as Mr. Trump’s re-election campaign begins in earnest." I am loving Trump's crude attacks on a Muslim congresswoman. Will it play in 2020? I have no doubt. As I have said before, Trump is the perfect American President: An ignoramus and a bully.

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/may/08/trump-iran-nuclear-deal-us-withdrawal"A fresh and urgent reminder of that has come today with Iran’s declaration that it will no longer fully comply with the nuclear deal it reached with the US and Europe in 2015, by which Tehran agreed to a 15-year pause on its nuclear programme in return for the easing of economic sanctions. In a televised address this morning – exactly one year after Trump withdrew the United States from the deal – Iran’s president, Hassan Rouhani, announced a series of moves that would inch the country closer to acquiring the ability to produce nuclear weapons, moves that would only be averted if Europe defied Trump and allowed Iran once again to sell its oil and have access to the international banking system. For the most severe of these steps, Rouhani gave the Europeans 60 days to make up their minds: either resume trade or watch Tehran resume its nuclear efforts. There’s no mystery why this has come about, even if cause and effect are separated by 12 months. On 8 May last year, Trump dismissed the advice of his own military and security chiefs and broke from what he called the “worst deal in history”. The likeliest explanation is that Trump disliked the deal not because it was ineffective – on the contrary, international inspectors were adamant that Iran was complying to the letter – but simply because it represented the single biggest foreign-policy achievement of his predecessor. Just as Trump has been determined to unravel Barack Obama’s healthcare reforms, so he has been bent on dismantling his international legacy. Laughable though it may seem, Trump’s envy and resentment of Obama and his reputation may well be the key driver of this major geopolitical shift." That just about sums it up. Yet the Democrats remain silent, as is the American media.

I read where Trumpty describes himself as "extremely stable genius" and wonder why Republicans don't react with disgust. And then I remember that Rush Limbaugh's shtick for decades has been what a genius HE is, and his fans love it.

www.nytimes.com/2019/06/04/world/europe/trump-london-protests.html?action=click&module=Well&pgtype=Homepage§ion=World"LONDON — Unleashing the giant Trump baby balloon once again, Britons protesting President Trump’s state visit vowed to bring central London to a standstill on Tuesday, holding demonstrations that they hoped would draw large crowds throughout the day. But lagging numbers in the early hours seemed to indicate that the passions that drove hundreds of thousands into the streets for Mr. Trump’s first visit in July may have cooled somewhat." Another Trump visit, another pointless non-violent protest by some Brits. Yawn.

www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2019/jun/15/oan-oann-fox-news-donald-trump"Donald Trump and Fox News are said to have one of the strongest marriages in political showbusiness. But there is a young rival hoping to outfox Fox and catch the US president’s wandering media eye. The obscure One America News Network (OAN) makes up for its lack of clout or viewers by covering every Trump utterance, recycling conspiracy theories, downplaying Russian threats, bashing the mainstream media and championing the “Make America Great Again” agenda. Most Americans have not noticed, but the most powerful one has. The president rewards OAN with shout-outs and access wildly out of sync with its reach, leading some observers to suspect that he is playing OAN and Fox News off one another to ensure their undying affection." Ha-ha! Trumpy has found a network even more nutty than Fox.

www.nytimes.com/2019/07/04/opinion/trump-tanks.html?action=click&module=Opinion&pgtype=Homepage"With a few exceptions — the invasion of Iraq in 2003, the battle of Falluja in 2004 — the tank has become as irrelevant to modern warfare as the horse cavalry it replaced. Primarily designed to roll over fences and trenches and to knock out other tanks in World War I-type and World War II-type battles, tanks have been reduced to serving, in effect, as heavy, expensive bunkers. They struggle to maneuver anywhere but open terrain (which means they are as likely to become an obstacle as they are to breech one) and they bleed the supply chain (it takes about 10 gallons of fuel just to start an M1 Abrams tank, and its engines get fewer than two miles per gallon). So what are we supposed to make of President Trump’s fascination with these hulking relics and his determination to display them in Washington during Thursday’s Fourth of July celebration?"
I think I saw a tank in a parade once in my life. It was in Calexico CA and I was about 7 so it had to be about 1959. It was a National Guard M-48. What I remember most about it was when it turned a corner and tore up the asphalt. Ah, Cold War nostalgia!

www.nytimes.com/2019/07/23/world/asia/trump-afghanistan.html"KABUL, Afghanistan — Afghanistan demanded a clarification on Tuesday of President Trump’s comments a day earlier that he could have had the country “wiped off the face of the earth” but did not “want to kill 10 million people.” In a sharply worded statement, the government of President Ashraf Ghani noted that Afghanistan expected its relationship with the United States to be “grounded on common interests and mutual respect.” Mr. Trump made the comments on Monday during an Oval Office meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan of Pakistan. The president said he was referring to prepared military plans for Afghanistan, adding, “I could win that war in a week.” The worst thing about this story is how little coverage it will get in our lamestream media. Just another lunatic tweet. Trump being himself: bragging how he could commit genocide in Afghanistan. I guess moral degeneracy is, just like everything else, in the eye of the beholder. And yet he still has the support of millions of people who call themselves "good Christians". They would rather we cared about someone having an abortion somewhere. As I said, in the eye of the beholder.
