I should have introduced this thread when I first created it. It's part of my attempt to understand why the Boomers ended up not changing the world in a positive fashion when they had so much potential. I suspect it is because of so many Boomers who were reactionary sleazeballs who held the rest of us down, and I'm posting who they are (were) when I run across them. www.nytimes.com/2014/12/04/us/politics/roy-h-beck-quietly-leads-a-grass-roots-army.html?&hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&module=first-column-region®ion=top-news&WT.nav=top-news"He keeps grade cards for every member of Congress, deploys three million activists to blast lawmakers with anti-immigration-reform telephone calls, faxes and emails, and runs a website where his followers have called undocumented immigrants “criminal invaders” and “wolves at the door.” But for Roy H. Beck, the 66-year-old driving force behind a small but powerful organization that has helped scuttle every effort at an immigration overhaul for nearly two decades, the fight is only beginning. Over the next year, his goal is to cut off funding for President Obama’s executive actions that have shielded five million people from deportation and will allow many of them work permits."

I get the feeling you aren't buying that one, CB. OK, I'll look for others besides the obvious ones like Bill & Hillary, GW, and Obama.

Today I heard a bit of my old friend Roger Hedgecock, an old boomer like myself, jumping on the Bash Lena Dunham bandwagon. Sadly, he parroted what was said in the National Review a couple of weeks ago. And, sadly, he even had to include the part of how "unattractive" Lena is. Your AARP credentials are showing bad, Roger.

www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/dec/9/obama-asks-expansive-war-against-islamic-state/"Secretary of State John F. Kerry told Congress Tuesday that President Obama wants expansive war powers to pursue the Islamic State terrorists wherever and however he deems necessary, stunning lawmakers by requesting a war authorization that would even allow the Pentagon to commit American combat troops to the fight. Though Mr. Obama doesn’t want combat troops, he won’t have Congress tie his hands against unforeseen directions the war could take should the Islamic State evolve, expand its fight to other countries or prove more difficult to rout, Mr. Kerry said. “I don’t think anybody wants to get into a long-term ground operation here. But we also don’t want to hamstring the generals and the commanders in the field and the president, who’s commander in chief, from their ability to be able to make some decision they need to make,” Mr. Kerry told the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations." What a hypocrite. From anti-war activist in the 60's to war hawk in 2014. Sure glad this guy didn't become Prez, even though it barely matters who does.

www.cnn.com/2014/12/11/politics/john-brennan-defends-cia-after-torture-report/index.html"Washington (CNN) -- CIA Director John Brennan on Thursday defended harsh interrogation techniques as providing "useful" information to authorities, including in the raid that led to the death of Osama bin Laden. But he said it is "unknowable" what information could specifically be attributed to those techniques. "It is our considered view that the detainees who were subjected to enhanced interrogation techniques provided information that was useful and was used in the ultimate operation to go against Bin Laden," Brennan said. Brennan's comments, in a rare news conference, come two days after a Senate panel released a blockbuster 528-page report detailing "enhanced interrogation techniques" -- including mock executions, "rectal rehydration," sleep deprivation and beatings -- in interrogations in the mid-2000s." Nice guy (born 1955). What is disturbing to me is the amount of effort being exerted to decide if the information obtained while they were sticking things up these guy's asses was "useful" or not. Would that justify the torture? Torture is either right or wrong.

www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-partisan/wp/2014/12/09/the-insiders-lena-dunham-another-example-of-the-lefts-decay/?tid=gravity_1.0_strip_1"And speaking of litigation, Lena Dunham and her publisher are now trying to walk back her outrageous accusations. Dunham, who is no stranger to controversy, is trying to escape blame without admitting anything, thereby making herself potentially vulnerable in a courtroom. It could cost millions. As best I can tell, Lena Dunham is the Miley Cyrus of condescending, phony intellectuals. They both use the same mix of pretentiousness, vulgarity and pop culture to sell themselves as some sort of talent. Anyway, it all contributes to what Peggy Noonan called “America’s crisis of character” back in 2012. In analyzing some Gallup polling on the public mood, Peggy Noonan wrote, “I’ve long thought that public dissatisfaction is about more than the economy, that it’s also about our culture… Now…I think more and more people are worried about the American character – who we are and what kind of adults we are raising.” As usual, she hits it right on the head." First this guy slams little Lena, apparently now a favorite punching bag of the right (but still miles behind Al Sharpton), and then kisses the ass of Boomer hag Peggy Noonan (b. 1950), queen of the Big Hair and Pearl Necklace set and famous Reagan worshipper. And part of the self-proclaimed more-character-than-thou bunch, which I think many Boomers belong to. As if.

mobile.nytimes.com/2014/12/14/opinion/sunday/arthur-c-brooks-abundance-without-attachment.html?referrer=&_r=1 "But even if you are not religious, there is an important lesson for us embedded in this ancient theology. Namely, woe be unto those who live and die by the slings and arrows of worldly attachment. To prioritize these things is to cling to the rim, a sure recipe for existential vertigo. Instead, make sure you know what is the transcendental truth at the center of your wheel, and make that your focus. So here is my central claim: The frustration and emptiness so many people feel at this time of year is not an objection to the abundance per se, nor should it be. It is a healthy hunger for nonattachment. This season, don’t rail against the crowds of shoppers on Fifth Avenue or become some sort of anti-gift misanthrope. Celebrate the bounty that has pulled millions out of poverty worldwide. But then, ponder the three practices above. Move beyond attachment by collecting experiences, avoid excessive usefulness, and get to the center of your wheel. It might just turn out to be a happy holiday after all." Oh, I'm sure Arthur Brooks (b. 1964, a tail-ender) is religious. Certainly, I do enjoy being preached about attachment from the head of the American Enterprise Institute, that pro-war, pro-inequality crank tank.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Elmer_Mitchell"James Elmer Mitchell (born c. 1952) is a psychologist and former member of the United States Air Force. In 2002, after his retirement from the military, he received a contract from the CIA to create a controversial program of ("enhanced interrogation techniques") to be used on CIA detainees. The techniques have been recognized as "justice department approved, senate approved, presidential approved torture" by the United States Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, as reported in its report on CIA torture, although this determination is disputed by others inside and outside the government. His company earned US$81 million for their work." So this Boomer is whining about death threats. Actions have consequences, amigo.

Egads! I think there is a high probability of the Presidential race of 2016 being Clinton vs. Bush! That might mean we would have a Boomer in the White House until 2024! IF the country lasts that long.

www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/dec/28/stephen-moore-economic-recovery-grows-from-private/"What’s generating the growth? A huge factor has been the fall in energy costs. As the oil price fell from $105 a barrel this summer to close to $70 by September, the cost of oil imports tumbled. Imports fell by nearly 2 percent, and this alone added almost 0.2 percentage points to gross domestic product growth. Even that badly understates the economic windfall from cheap energy. Production costs fall when energy costs do, so the supply of American-produced, non-oil and non-gas products, such as manufactured goods, rise when gas is cheap. With prices lower now in this quarter, the good news story rolls on. Thank you, fracking. Businesses are clearly feeling less fearful about investing, and some of the negative, wet-blanket effect of Mr. Obama’s anti-business, anti-shareholder agenda has dissipated as the Republican Congress repels his worst ideas — cap and trade, minimum wage hikes, new taxes on the energy industry, and massive new spending initiatives out of Washington. Gridlock now looks to be built into the political system for the next two years, and in many ways that’s reassuring." What's interesting here? Club for Growth president and big mouth (he's a regular on Fox News) Libertarian loser Stephan Moore (b.1960) is finding it necessary to flog the dead horse about the wonderfulness of free enterprise over government activism for the 10,000th time. I believe most people think gridlock is a negative.

www.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/jan/3/huckabee-gives-fox-news-show-test-2016-presidentia/"Former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee announced the end of his Fox News Channel program Saturday evening, saying he and the network parted ways and saying he is preparing to make yet another run in 2016. Mr. Huckabee, who competed in the 2008 contest but took a pass in 2012, said he won’t decide on running until late this spring, “but the continued chatter has put Fox News in a position that is not fair to them.” Poor Mike (b, 1955). He gave up a secure paycheck from Murdoch to pursue his egotistical pipe dream. Sorry, if Jeb (b. 1953) runs, (and I'm sure he will. He too has a big ego) Mike doesn't have a chance.

I hate to ever feel sorry for Republicons, but I just might if Jeb gets into the WH. Then again, maybe he's a Reagan in disguise. A really good disguise. But as some jokers called Bill Clinton the best Republicon President ever, Jeb may turn out to be the best Democrat President since JFK. It's a pretty low bar.

So the Senate Majority Leader position went from one guy older than the oldest boomer to another guy older than the oldest boomer. Yep, I'm sure that will mean a lot of change in the status quo.
