www.nytimes.com/2015/02/03/business/energy-environment/lower-oil-prices-strike-at-heart-of-oil-sands-production.html?_r=0"While production may keep humming along, the big question is whether oil sands producers can break even at current prices. An oil sands project takes five to 10 years to design and build, and they have a life span of 25 to 50 years. Fort Hills, a project now under construction in a partnership led by Suncor, has a budget of 13.5 billion Canadian dollars (about $10.7 billion). Once such projects are up and running, the expenses are significant, given the process needed to get the oil-laden bitumen from the ground. It must either be dug up or blasted from under the ground using steam. Two energy-hungry steps are then needed to separate the bitumen from the sand and to turn it into usable oil known as synthetic crude." The Canadians are not shy about trashing their own country, so why should they hesitate to trash other countries, including the USA? It would be fabulous if the Keystone Pipeline ignited an anti-Canada backlash.

america.aljazeera.com/opinions/2015/3/islamophobia-sells-in-canada.html"Canadians will vote in the country’s 42nd general election on Oct. 19. In the lead-up to the vote, Prime Minister Stephen Harper has made several calculated decisions to capitalize on popular Islamophobic sentiments to secure another victory for the Conservative Party. Harper has latched onto international events to marginalize Muslims for voters. For example, on Jan. 8, Harper responded to the attacks in Paris on the French satirical magazine, Charlie Hebdo, by claiming that an “international jihadist movement has declared war.” He then pledged to propose a new anti-terrorism legislation once the parliament resumes regular session in late January. His bill, the Anti-Terrorism Act 2015 or Bill C-51, will transform Canada’s spy agency, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), from an information gathering service to one that proactively attempts to thwart terrorist plots in Canada and abroad. The act will also lower the threshold for monitoring suspected national security threats, including adding a vaguely defined category called terrorist “sympathizers.” Who knew we had a semi-fascist regime right on our northern border?

www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-32441222"On Thursday the New York Times and the Washington Post both published articles digging deep into the Clinton family finances - and the possible conflicts of interest they have created. In the Times Jo Becker and Mike McIntire write about a Russian energy conglomerate's purchase of a Canadian company with uranium mining interests in the US and Kazakhstan. It's a detailed, 4,000-word investigation with a lot of moving parts, but the gist is clear. The chairman of the Canadian company that profited from the sale, Ian Telfer, donated millions of dollars to the foundation - most of which was not reported publicly. The founder of the company, Frank Giustra, also donated $31m (£20.5m) to the foundation and flew former President Bill Clinton to Kazakhstan in 2005, at a time when the nation was considering whether to grant uranium mining rights to Canadian company. In 2010, at roughly the same time, the Russian company, Rosatom, was attempting to purchase the Canadian company, President Clinton travelled to Moscow and was paid $500,000 by a bank affiliated with Rosatom." Somehow I should have known those sneaky Canadians would be involved in this affair. Canadians and Russkis are birds of a feather.
P.S. I apologize for lumping Canada and Russia into the same boat. Obviously a huge insult to Russia.

www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-32619046"Legislation that would dramatically expand the powers of Canada's spy agency has cleared a key hurdle. The House of Commons on Wednesday approved the Anti-Terror Act, which was spurred by last year's attack on parliament. The act would give the spy agency the ability to operate overseas and make preventative arrests. Dominated by the Conservative party, the Senate is expected to approve the act before June. Prime Minister Stephen Harper has been a staunch supporter of the bill, which criminalises the promotion of terrorism, including via the internet. "There is a high probability of jihadist attacks from within," Canadian Defence Minister Jason Kenney said. "The threat of terrorism has never been greater." Can America ALLOW Canada to slip further into Fascism using the pretext of fighting jihadism? Will Canadian Gestapo secret police make "preventative" arrests in the US ("overseas") for supposedly promoting "terrorism"? What next after that, Canadian drone strikes in the USA? I doubt America's Iron Lady would put up with that, unless she's been bought off by those sneaky Canadians already.

america.aljazeera.com/articles/2015/6/14/canada-refugee-health.html"Activist doctors and refugees in Canada will take to the streets in cities across the country Monday for their fourth National Day of Action — a rally demanding that asylum seekers be given access to free health care while waiting for the government to assess their refugee status. Despite three years of protests, Canada’s “federal government has stuck to its efforts to deny health care to refugees,” Canadian Doctors for Refugee Care, one of the rally organizers, said in a press release. “As predicted, many have suffered and continue to suffer as a result. There have been well documented cases of people being denied care including pregnant women and sick children.” The demonstrations Monday are part of a longstanding fight doctors and refugee advocates have waged against Canada’s Conservative government since 2012, when Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s administration restricted certain refugees from qualifying for coverage under the Interim Federal Health program. The plan took away health care benefits for people seeking refuge in Canada if they were from a list of countries deemed safe." Why do fascists hate refugees?

www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-34585382"During the 11-week election campaign, the Liberal Party said it would: 1. Cut income taxes for middle-class Canadians while increasing them for the wealthy 2. Run deficits for three years to pay for infrastructure spending 3. Do more to address environmental concerns over the controversial Keystone oil pipeline 4. Take in more Syrian refugees, and pull out of bombing raids against Islamic State while bolstering training for Iraqi forces 5. Legalise marijuana" Ha-ha! The Canadians have wised up and thrown semi-fascist Steve Harper out of office. I like this list of things the new government claims it will do, such as not work so hard to ram their damn pipeline down America's throat, backing off on the bombing campaign in Syria, and of course legalizing marijuana. It would be hilarious, though, if America voted in a semi-fascist like Ted Cruz. (I usually avoid using the term "fascist" since it seems like overkill, but since Trump called Bernie Sanders a "Communist", I figure what the heck. Then again, I don't want to wear it out like the right has done with "socialist")

www.defenseone.com/management/2015/10/what-if-canada-doesnt-buy-f-35/122976/"Canada, which is part of the anti-ISIS coalition, has sent its CF-18s to strike targets in Syria. But Trudeau’s party has questioned the need for stealthy attack aircraft if Canada is not flying first-strike missions. “The primary mission of our fighter aircraft should remain the defence of North America, not stealth first-strike capability,” the Liberal party writes. That mission includes intercepting enemy planes and ships; American and Canadian fighter jets occasionally intercept Russian bombers in international airspace near their coastlines." Really, what would Canada need first strike aircraft for? Especially when one F-35 costs as much as three Super Hornets, and I don't think Canada is made of money like the US.

fortune.com/2015/11/08/keystone-pipeline-2/"Killing the multi-billion dollar oil pipeline would have been too risky for the U.S. when Canada’s Conservative party was in power, as the group threatened to build an alternative pipeline that would have taken Canadian crude west to Asia instead of south to the U.S. Gulf coast. But with the ruling Liberal Party firmly against the construction of a pipeline to the Pacific Ocean, Canada essentially lost all its leverage with the U.S. This not only doomed Keystone, but has also put an end to Canada’s dream of exporting crude out of North America." Awwww, too bad. The "we can't use oil fast enough" crowd got a rare defeat. If only semi-fascist Harper had won the election, but I guess he finally wore out his welcome. And now Canada will not be trashing British Columbia either. Oh well.

Is Canada making America look like a bunch of chickens or what? "Home of the Brave" my ass.

They give Muzzies a free pass on their Hate speech! while rest of UK non liberals gets punished for offending Rag heads! Borders, language, and culture have never been permanent and never will be. I've heard old geezer Micheal Savage lament about how great things were in the '50s. The 50's are long gone, and new generations are inventing their own language and culture. There are a lot of things about today's culture I dislike (such as idiots who wear their baseball caps backwards), but so what? People in their 20's now will probably hate the culture when they are in their 60's. As for borders, wars and revolutions are always changing those. Heck, I think we should take over Canada and turn the whole place into a big National Park. As for the UK, the Anglo-Saxons destroyed the Celt culture, then the Normans took over from them, and now they are bitching about the Muslims. I'm now playing the world's smallest violin.

america.aljazeera.com/opinions/2015/12/america-home-of-the-wimps.html"Listening to Republican presidential candidates on Tuesday night, you would think that America has become a nation of wimps, cowering in fear for no good reason over a murderous band of Middle Easterners with little power to harm us. Polls show strong support for Donald Trump, who wants to spy on mosques and ban all Muslims from entering the country. Ben Carson fears a Muslim president would follow Sharia law, unaware of the most basic principles of our Constitution. Sen. Ted Cruz spreads sophisticated versions of the same un-American rhetoric and calls President Barack Obama “an apologist” for terrorists during appearances on conspiracy theorist Glenn Beck’s show. All three, along with the other Republican candidates, say if elected they will protect us from “radical Islamic terrorists.” But the reality is that their vile comments threaten America far more than those they attack. The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) is a pipsqueak. It has no capacity to occupy a single inch of American soil and never will. It is no military threat to America or Europe. All it can do is recruit foolish people to harry us with violent crimes that have no military significance." This guy must have been reading my posts!
