www.nationalreview.com/article/375635/regaining-middle-america-robert-w-patterson"But the political theorist overstates the ability of even the most skillful defense of bourgeois social norms to help a party that, in the post-Reagan era, has delivered few economic benefits to Middle America, the very segment of the population where social-conservative ideals have the most traction. Given the social and economic dislocations of the past 25 years, which have downsized the middle class — and thus the once-great Reagan coalition — such appeals motivate fewer voters than they once did. Consequently, social conservatives face a dilemma. While rightly insisting that the party take their concerns seriously, pro-family leaders have largely gone along with the shift in U.S. economic and trade policies, starting with the George H. W. Bush presidency and the Bill Clinton–Newt Gingrich era, that have left their own constituency behind. This ominous departure from the Reagan consensus — via policies sacrificing a national high-wage economy to the gods of globalization and financialization — has pampered the upper-income set, Wall Street, and multinational corporations but has liquidated the GOP’s natural base of religious conservatives, Reagan Democrats, and middle-income voters." Let's hope the GOP does not listen to this guy and stays the party that worships billionaires and the Global Plutocracy. Just keep believing Fox News, please.

www.bbc.com/news/magazine-28025641"It's easy to assume American politics is defined by liberals on one side, and conservatives on the other. But it turns out the reality is far more nuanced, according to a new report by the Pew Research Center. Using new survey data, Pew Research was able to divide Americans into eight political types. Only 36% of Americans have staunchly partisan views. The majority fall somewhere in the middle - and the challenge for politicians will be figuring out how to tap into these groups, who have different combinations of progressive and conservative opinions." 36%? That seems about right. Not that good for the Tea Party, who think "REAL conservatives" will win elections for the GOP. Heck, us real lefties know real lefties can't win elections. That why we are stuck with the Clintons, Obama etc.

www.nationalreview.com/corner/381736/krauthammers-take-hobby-lobby-ruling-will-certainly-help-democrats-nro-staff"The Supreme Court’s ruling in the Hobby Lobby case this week will be advantageous for Democrats in the upcoming midterm elections, Charles Krauthammer says. “ Certainly it’s going help Democrats,” he said on Tuesday’s Special Report, “unless you know the case, unless you know that the stories being told about the war on women — that women are being denied access to health care — is preposterous.” The claim that the case represents a war against women is “absurd on its face, but that’s how the media is portraying it, that’s what the headline is, and I think that’s how it will be received,” Krauthammer said. “That will be very advantageous to Democrats, who will add it on the list of crimes against women that Republicans have allegedly committed.” Ha-ha! Krauthammer is right on! The "Hobby Lobby" SCOTUS buffoonery will mean the company won't provide contraceptive coverage to some women, but much more importantly it could rally the Democrats!

The Foxpublicans have been scrambling for an issue they could ride into control of the Senate with in 2014. With outrage over Obamacare fading, and no one giving a crap about Benghazi, the IRS, and the VA except Fox zombies, they may have come up with a winner in November, which of course is the "tsunami" of diseased gang-members-to-be coming across the border from Central America. Class warfare at it's finest, as the right tries to terrify a craven Middle Class.

www.nationalreview.com/article/388945/five-reasons-why-youre-too-dumb-vote-kevin-d-williamson"If you would like to be filled with despair for the prospects of democracy, spend a few minutes attempting to decipher the psephological musings of Lena Dunham, the distinctly unappealing actress commissioned by Planned Parenthood to share with her presumably illiterate following “5 Reasons Why I Vote (and You Should, Too).” That’s 21st-century U.S. politics in miniature: a half-assed listicle penned by a half-bright celebrity and published by a gang of abortion profiteers." Go right ahead, slam a Millennial celebrity and her fans, you old fart. Democrats love the idea of becoming the permanent majority party. Unappealing? Whatever, you shallow pig.

www.nationalreview.com/article/389442/lena-dunham-expression-tmi-sexist-katherine-timpf"According to feminist icon Lena Dunham, yet another common expression is actually really a super-sexist one: “too much information,” or “TMI.” In fact, Dunham said she finds the expression so offensive that it’s her “least favorite phrase.” “I think when men share their experiences, it’s bravery, and when women share their experiences, it’s some sort of — people are like, ‘TMI,’” she told NPR’s Terry Gross in an interview this week." Apparently Lena Dunham is the new target of the right's contempt (Sorry, Bill Ayers). Why, I don't know. Is it because she represents that young urban female vote they have a hard time getting? I don't think attacking Lena is going to get it for them.

Well, it looks like the GOP did not need the young urban female vote, there is still enough old rural redneck and craven suburbanite vote to win elections. We'll see if they can repeat in 2016.

I was just reading about the Republican Revolution of 1946 when they took control of Congress after 16 years of Democratic control, and how it helped usher in the Cold War. Many of us remember the Reagan Revolution, and the 1994 return of the GOP to a Congressional majority. And we just went through the Tea Party Revolution of 2010 and the Anti-Obama Revolution of 2014 giving the GOP control of the Senate. My question is: How many revolutions does one party get?

Ha-ha! The right's favorite Millennial target of contempt, Lena Dunham, whom they never forget to mention is "unattractive" when they speak of her, is on the cover of ELLE magazine this month. Take that, you shallow pricks. Of course, you would have to put down your copy of Gun Lust magazine to notice.

america.aljazeera.com/blogs/scrutineer/2015/3/23/supreme-court-lets-wisconsin-voter-id-law-stand.html"The Supreme Court has rejected a challenge to Wisconsin’s strict voter identification requirements. The Republican-backed law, which requires citizens to present state-approved photo ID before casting a ballot, was opposed by Wisconsin Democrats and civil rights groups, such as the ACLU and the Advancement Project. Voting rights advocates say the law disproportionately disenfranchises poor, minority and elderly populations." The GOP is not fooling anybody. It's real sad when one party thinks it can only win by suppressing the already low voter turnout. It's also sad that a formerly progressive state like Wisconsin had gone over to the Dark Side, but I guess that's true for a lot of the Midwest. If the Midwest wants to align itself with the South, so be it.

But seriously, I know it is expecting too much for the GOP to give up the useful dogma that there are millions of non-citizens dying to vote when it is so hard to get actual citizens to the voting booth. It goes against my sense of human nature, which is that people are damn lazy and don't see what good voting does anyway. And I don't blame them.

www.nytimes.com/2015/03/27/opinion/david-brooks-the-field-is-flat.html?partner=rssnyt&emc=rss&_r=0"Like a lot of people who pay attention to such things, I had assumed that Democrats had a huge advantage going into next year’s presidential race. Democrats do really well among the growing demographic groups, like Hispanics, single people and the young. Republicans, meanwhile, do doing sensationally well with just about every shrinking group. If 67-year-old rural white men were the future of the electorate, the G.O.P. would be rolling. But there’s a growing body of evidence to suggest that, in fact, Democrats do not enter this election with an advantage. There are a series of trends that may cancel out the Democratic gains with immigrants, singles and the like." "Democrats continue to lose support among the white working class. In 2008, Barack Obama carried 40 percent of white voters with a high school degree. By 2012, that was down to 36 percent. As John B. Judis points out in a National Journal piece called “The Emerging Republican Advantage,” the tilt of the white working class to the G.O.P. has been even more pronounced in other races. In 2006, Democrats got 44 percent of the white-working-class vote in House races. By 2014, they got only 34 percent. In 2009, Republicans had a 20-seat advantage in House districts that were majority white working class. Today, they have a 125-seat advantage. Most surprising, Democrats are now doing worse among college-educated voters. Obama won white college graduates in 2008, but he lost them to Mitt Romney in 2012. In Colorado, for example, Obama lost 8 points in his support from college-educated voters from 2008 to 2012." Now, if I was a Democratic Party zealot, this might be depressing. But I'm not, and I think it would be a positive development for America if the Old White Guy Party became a little less of an old white guy party.
