www.nytimes.com/2012/12/07/us/politics/jim-demint-to-leave-senate-to-run-heritage-foundation.html?hp "A hero to many Republicans for his fund-raising abilities, Mr. DeMint frustrated Senate colleagues by eagerly backing Republican candidates like Sharron Angle of Nevada in 2010 and Richard Mourdock of Indiana this year, contenders who proved too conservative to be elected statewide. The losses by Ms. Angle and Mr. Mourdock and other candidates endorsed by Mr. DeMint hurt Republicans in the last two elections in their efforts to retake the Senate though he successfully backed conservative candidates in Florida, Texas and Utah. “The truth is that Jim DeMint’s philosophy on everything from Medicare to women’s reproductive rights, as embodied by his handpicked candidates for Congress, has been rejected by voters,” said Senator Patty Murray of Washington, who headed the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee this year. The costly Senate defeats, as well as Mr. DeMint’s proclivity for gumming up legislation on the floor, stunted his chances for leadership in the Senate, and his influence may well be enhanced from the outside. Gov. Nikki Haley of South Carolina, a Republican, will now be compelled to appoint a successor who would then run to maintain the seat in a special election in 2014, when Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, the senior senator from the state, will also be up for re-election. Aides said that Ms. Haley was surprised by Mr. DeMint’s sudden announcement." SO the Old White Guy Party will have two seats to defend in South Carolina in 2014. This comes after 2012, when the Democrats had 23 Senate seats to defend nationwide, and it was widely assumed they might lose the Senate. Instead, the Dems GAINED two.

It seems to me that the GOP was expecting to cruise back into power in 2014 on the strength of Benghazi and Obamacare alone. Might still work, but as happens often, events might be throwing a monkey wrench into the Old White Guy Party's assumptions. If the Ukraine crisis deepens, it might be "Obamacare what?" and "Benghazi who?" as Americans tend to rally around their President in times of peril.

www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/mar/13/pruden-how-to-rain-on-your-own-parade/"Alex Sink, who was the model for the Democratic congressional candidate of 2014, lost what was supposed to be a slam-dunk victory Tuesday in Florida. She got the slam, but not the dunk, and departs the arena leaving a valuable lesson for her party." She flooded the broadcast channels with messages from the Sierra Club and the League of Conservation Voters treating Mr. Jolly as the man from the Flat Earth Society for his measured skepticism about global warming. This congressional district, the Florida 13th, was made to measure for global warming hysteria and wild speculation about hurricanes, tidal waves, tsunamis and wild salty beasts ready to emerge from the Gulf and devour the town. But the weather from the Gulf — Florida is nearly always the first port of call of killer hurricanes — was not as scary as electing another Obama pal to Congress." Really? She ran on global warming? What an idiot. No one has EVER been elected to Congress on environmental issues. She should have stuck to warning people the GOP is going to push their granny off a cliff.
But seriously, if the GOP takes over the Senate, will they really try to dismantle Obamacare? THAT should be loads of laughs for millions of Americans. It also means we may still be fighting the healthcare war in 2044.

It also means we may still be fighting the healthcare war in 2044.
Even many Democrats realize that Obamacare is one big mess that can be greatly improved upon. The Republicans have developed an alternative. They can eliminate thousands of pages of Obamacare that has little to do with healthcare and much to do with controlling the people. I have read two different alternatives developed by the Republicans and they are much better than Obamacare. Even Obama is tinkering with Obamacare making changes to improve what HE thinks is better (mostly raising more money) and delaying full implementation until AFTER he leaves office so someone else can FIX HIS MESS!

One of the reasons the GOP is expected to hand the Dems their ass on a platter this November is that many Dem voters only vote in the President election years. Maybe that's the curse of being the touchy-feely kumbaya Party, but as I've said before it's better to be dumb and good than smart and evil. I think. But that's the reality hard-core lefties like myself have had to deal with for decades. Fortunately I have low expectations.

So Mitch McConnell fended off a much younger Tea Party opponent in the GOP primary. Now the 72-year-old geezer will be taking on a 35-year-old female Democrat, and no doubt he'll kick her ass. I just don't get why Kentucky voters would want to send that old fart to the Senate for another term, but whatever.

I was listening on the radio to the two GOP candidates looking to replace my Congresswoman Susan Davis. Two white guys, one was a SEAL. Sure to appeal to the usual crowd, but will that be enough to win? They were trying desperately to connect Davis to Nancy Pelosi, who I guess is a real villain to a lot of people. (How much better is Boehner than Pelosi? You tell me.) The wild card in 2014 is Obamacare. Are there many Democrats or Independents who are voting on that issue alone? I don't know.

Just when I'm just about to give up even looking on the TV for any amusing items in what passes for "news", I catch on Fox that dirtbag Eric Cantor was defeated in the VA GOP primary by some Tea Party clown. LOL!!! And who is to blame for the GOP establishment taking this hit? I would argue it is Fox News, which the GOP Est. embraced years ago, and has now produced a generation of Fox zombies who flock to the Tea Party. Once again, be careful what you wish for, and the GOP Est. wanted a media outlet that was a shill for them. Thanks, Rupert and Roger.

I was listening to an earlier speech by Mr. Brat, and it's the typical anti-big government pablum, and he mentioned his influences which were the usual suspects: Reagan, Friedman, and Hayek. And despite being a fan of these Darwinian idols, Dave mentions God a LOT. Well, it is Virginia.

www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/jun/26/pruden-race-baiting-and-betrayal-in-mississippi/"The reminder of the bad old days, which have no legitimate echo today, worked. In Jackson and surrounding Hinds County, where 16,649 voters cast ballots for the candidates three weeks ago, 24,889 voters cast ballots this time — in a county with only 20,567 Republicans registered to vote. Thousands of those voters were in black neighborhoods, where “Republican” is a reviled word. The pattern was repeated even more emphatically in the Delta counties along the Mississippi River." T his is the mischief that comes with allowing "crossover" votes in party primaries, which we even have in California now. Who benefits? The billionaire's conspiracy to weaken political parties, who are a rival for control of America. Billionaires would like nothing better than a country of 100% "independents", in other words people with no ideology who are easily manipulated. At least the Tea Party types are learning who really runs the country.

www.nationalreview.com/article/389451/if-gop-retakes-senate-charles-krauthammer"The risk-averse will say: Why take chances? Why not just run against the Obama legacy in 2016? The GOP should and will do that. What has happened to economic growth, social cohesion, and America’s standing abroad will be a significant drag on Democrats. But it could very well not be enough. Obama won’t be on the ticket. Hillary Clinton, now rapidly distancing herself from the administration she served, will be running on a different legacy, that of her husband and the holiday-from-history 1990s." The one thing that caught my attention in this usual Krauthammer yawner was blaming Obama for a decline in "social cohesion". Sorry, Charlie, but that started way before Obama, and was accelerated immensely by the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Fox News.
